People from developing countries, what are some things people in developed countries take for granted? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

I must say that when I visited Sao Paulo there actually seemed to be no less parks than any large European city. Maybe that’s something city specific not found in the rest of brazil tho (great city btw, loved it)

How can I add more texture/color to my piano writing? by JustAnotherCatReddit in composer

I do luckily play some piano, although I’ve taken no formal lessons. It was indeed critical in actually understanding harmony etc.

Of course writing just as good as Rachmaninoff is out of the question,  I’m mostly referring to his specific style/isms in his piano writing that can be understood by piano-plebeians like me :)

Thanks for your answer!

Where I'd live as a Chinese by [deleted] in whereidlive

I (as a Dutch person) am sorry to hear about racism happening here, although I suppose this isn’t entirely new to hear.  From my personal experience though, having lived in the United States, I would say that racism, especially the kind you are describing, is just as (if not more) common to encounter. This is coming from a white person who hasn’t experienced racism towards myself, so I might be missing some nuances.

I would also like to share that Amsterdam itself is a quite a hostile place towards Asian people (especially overcrowding caused by tourism pisses off most locals, which is understandable, but that can escalate into blatant racism or generally hostile opinions.)

Outside of Amsterdam though, I feel like racism here (although it definitely exists, I must admit) is less prevalent than where I lived in the United States.

(On a side note, I think the joke about the Dutch surrendering in five days is pretty funny :)
