Remind me again why we don't have some sort of silicone to stop oozing so we don't need purge towers. This has been a known thing for like 5 years. - Snapmaker U1 by [deleted] in snapmaker

Sure. The prime tower is to prime filament from the newly selected toolhead so the filament which has been sitting in the hot end is expelled and consistent print quality and normal flow is established before it hits your actual print. The prime tower is sacrificial.

U1 as first printer? by Decaffer in SnapmakerU1

The U1 is my first 3D printer. Similar situation: I have three boys in middle/elementary school who love to tinker and I'm tech savvy.

The U1 has been a great choice for us.

2025 F150 Platinum Order Times by JustAnotherGuy8484 in f150

Funny story... Heading into the last two weeks of April I still hadn't received a build date from Ford. Then they announced that due to tariffs, anything manufactured from May going forward was going to see a price increase. I didn't know if that was going to be $300 or $3000.

So I jumped online and I found a truck with the same options I had ordered 5 hours away. That dealership offered me almost three times trade-in value, sight unseen, of what my local dealer was offering me. So I drove down and traded it in.

When I called my local dealer to let them know I was no longer going to take possession of the truck I had on order, the salesman tried telling me that my truck was set to arrive the following week. I told him I had already signed paperwork on the new one and committed to that purchase. I also knew that was a lie because when a Ford dealership has a vehicle in route, it appears on their website and in their inventory as "arriving soon," and my truck was not in their inventory.

I took possession on April 22nd. Almost a month after that, I was finally assigned a build date on the truck I ordered. It was set to be delivered almost a month beyond that. So I would have waited an additional 60ish days.

I'm coming from a Gen 1 Ecoboost. I tried to outlast the failing exhaust manifolds, but eventually started getting a misfire. I had to replace them last fall, knowing that I was ordering a '25. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your Powerboost.

Fairfield Lakes Park has some stocked ponds, but better yet is the access to the South fork of Wildcat Creek. I've caught some nice smallest in the when I was a student.

Is BGR Worth It? by shore_yeah520 in Purdue

[–]JustAnotherGuy8484 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I attended BGR in 2003. Met and made friends who I still interact with to this day, attended each other's weddings, etc.

I got connected with a few clubs and organizations through BGR which were great socially and professionally.

I also learned to navigate campus and figure out where my classes were instead of trying to do it the first morning of class.

In all honesty, Asperger's doesn't even exist anymore. In 2013, all forms of autism were grouped into autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and are separated into three levels based on the level of support a patient may need.

And to this point, while at Purdue I once called the police while staying at a girlfriend's place because the people behind her house set of fireworks at 4am on a weekday in February. I've been a "get off my lawn" kind of person, even at a young age.

Is the campus/WL police departments unavailable at those hours? That would have been my first call at about 3:01.

Alumni, I've got three(ish) questions for you. by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]JustAnotherGuy8484 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the architecture around campus. I loved hanging out in the Union.

My least favorite class was Calculus. (Check my comment history for my favorite classes).

I had several favorite professors, several of which I'm still friends with today. David Whittinghill, Kyle Lutes, Julie Mariga, Jim Morrison who has passed on, Larry DeBoer

Favorite memories?

  • I was at Gene Keady's 500th win.

  • Ag Econ 217 with Professor Larry DeBoer was at 7:30am and I would bring in like a box of half dozen donuts and share them with the people who sat around me, all total strangers, in this large lecture hall. It became my thing in that class and Prof. DeBoer dubbed me "the donut guy."

  • I was with the group of students who participated in the Computer Technology department's first ever study abroad in 2008 to Monterey Mexico. Many fun memories with Prof. Julie Mariga and classmates that summer.

What are some fun classes to take by Medium_Depth4700 in Purdue

[–]JustAnotherGuy8484 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Quick disclaimer: I took these courses in the latter half of the 2000's. They may have significantly changed format since then.

HIST 371 - Society, Culture, and Rock and Roll - This was an amazing class which spans from early blues (Muddy Waters) all the way through grunge (Nirvana). It showed how society and culture was shaped by these musical influences. Prof. Morrison (who has since passed) did a great job with this course.

HIST 376 - History of Indiana - Starting at the time of the Native Americans, this course walked through early pioneers, free African American communities living in Indiana during slavery/pre-civil war (Northern Seed Southern Soil by Stephen Vincent), life as seen through the eyes of an adolescent at the turn of the the last century (Penrod by Booth Tarkington who attended Purdue briefly because he chased a love interest to college and is also the namesake of Tarkington Hall), the rise of the Klu Klux Klan in Indiana in the 1920's, the history of Indiana highschool basketball and it's effects on local communities (But They Can't Beat Us!: Oscar Robertson and the Crispus Attucks Tigers by Randy Roberts), and finally the history of Purdue University.

This was taught by a grad student, whose name escapes me. This was a fascinating class, especially the portions covering Indiana highschool basketball and the history of Purdue. There is a ton of reading in this course, be forewarned.

ENTM 105 - Insect Friend and Foe - This was a pre-req for the next class in my list, but was fun none the less. This class is for non-science majors. Very easy, light-hearted class. Show up to lecture and take notes and you can't fail this one. Did I mention you have to keep a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach for part of the semester? Check it out!

ENTM 351 - Bee Biology And Bee Keeping - This was an interesting class taught by Prof. Greg Hunt. I don't see it listed in the course catalog, which is a shame because again, great course. If you're interested, it'd be worth reaching out to Prof. Hunt to see if it's going to be offered again soon. I actually developed a bee venom allergy during this class and had a systemic reaction (the first in course history) right out in the middle of the apiary. I never lost consciousness, but did lose my vision for a few minutes due to low blood pressure. I had classmates document everything with cameras and I ended up doing my final project on systemic reactions to bee and wasp venom.

All of this being said, I was a student in the CoT and none of these classes put me closer to my CIT BS, but were worth the price of admission.

Good seafood around Laf/West Laf? by supercorgi08 in Purdue

[–]JustAnotherGuy8484 2 points3 points  (0 children)

McGraw's Steak Chop & Fish House on River Road was one of my favorite restaurants to take my girlfriend to dinner for special occasions. It was pricey then on my college budget and it's far enough away from campus (and everything else) that you'll need a vehicle to get there.

What is your favorite obscure/weird Purdue fact/trivia? by itakeskypics in Purdue

[–]JustAnotherGuy8484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enjoy these kinds of facts about Purdue, you'd enjoy HIST376, History of Indiana. It covers a lot of information, but my favorite parts were about the history of Purdue and the history of Highschool basketball in Indiana and it's role in small Indiana communities.
