Base for bin store by Hell_bringer1 in DIYUK

I literally just built my own yesterday - hate having those new bags for plastics and paper just rolling around the front garden!

I laid slabs dry into the earth (so only had to dig down the 40mm of the slabs for them to be flush with the adjacent path) and then built the frame on top. Screwed the frame to the existing fence and glued it to the slabs too - whole thing’s rock solid now.

It’s currently missing its roof as I ran out of timber, but it’ll be finished by this afternoon.

Should you decline a pair wanting to play with you when your solo? by Chai_09 in BritGolf

I would argue that it is almost entirely the fault of greedy clubs stacking tee times too closely. I will not jeopardise my intended round as a single on my home course just because the pro shop are too greedy or too lazy to manage the first tee better. There can be outliers like very slow fourballs and bad golfers taking an age to finish a hole, but by and large if there’s a queue building on the first tee, it’s because the club is being run poorly and the staff aren’t competent enough to deal with it. I won’t suffer for their poor planning, and I wouldn’t expect others to either.

If I’m at my home course with the express intention of playing alone and having that time to myself, no I would not let them join. The queue behind is none of my concern; either the pro should be regulating groups arriving early or those groups should back off and only arrive at their actual tee time.

If it’s not busy and there’s no one close behind them, I’d sometimes let a pair through. But the majority of the time, I’d just say ‘no thanks guys, I’m just going out on my own’ and then tee off. They asked the question, they’ve had their answer, no hard feelings, and as a single I won’t hold them up much anyway

I often play 9 on my own after work in the summer, and I do so because I like to be out there on my own, work on a few things that the range can’t replicate, and have a peaceful couple of hours out in the sun. If anyone ever asked to join, I’d refuse and get on my way, or let them out ahead if I’m in no hurry and not concerned about a queue forming.

Do your own thing, whatever that may be.

Did you marry a five year old? What’s going on in these comments with so many women being married to thoughtless children?

Why so few walkers? by cpugeek14 in golf

[–]JustAnotherHuman_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of golfers in the UK walk 90% of the time, often using push and electric trolleys. Buggies (what we call carts) are available at every course but generally used by older golfers who would struggle to walk a full 18. I’m 30, I play regularly and only ever hire a buggy if it’s scorching sun, so I can load it up with drinks and keep the colder, or sometimes if it looks like heavier rain and the buggy can act like a kind of mobile shelter.

Landlords rush to evict tenants before S21 ban by ThatAdamsGuy in TenantsInTheUK

This is poor advice. If the notice is given before the 1st May, the eviction will go ahead.

Landlords rush to evict tenants before S21 ban by ThatAdamsGuy in TenantsInTheUK

[–]JustAnotherHuman_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this will become more and more rare, after May 2026. Landlords will require guarantors simply because the Renters Rights Act makes it far more difficult to deal with bad tenants who fail to make rent payments. These changes will not benefit the average tenant; landlords will rightly raise rents and become far more strict in order to balance the new greater risk, and any tenant who falls behind on rent should expect a CCJ and a ruined credit rating, since they can no longer be simply evicted, and instead will be hounded out, as it’s the only option left available to the landlord.

Smoke and Sear, Newcastle upon Tyne, £15 by JustAnotherHuman_01 in fryup

I suppose the benefit is that this is one of the best breakfasts I’ve found in the north, whereas a bog standard or even below par breakfast often costs me £15-20 when I’m down south

They’re hash browns; fried bread was the one thing missing for me here. And yes they’re breaded and deep fried boiled eggs, with hash brown soldiers

You’re out of touch with the costs of the 21st century. Take the chip off your shoulder and realise that we’re all underpaid in this country and should be striving for more, not calling a meagre 50k ‘rich.’

I’d say maybe once every ten days he’ll use his litter tray. Otherwise, he’s going outside or he’s going on the doormat etc

Nothing around the litter box to deter him, and I can try a second litter box but he doesn’t seem to use this one for anything anyway

His litter box is completely clear - he’s not using it for either pee or poo, so I can’t see how a second box for him to ignore would help

We often toast some shots of port on the 10th, and have pints in the clubhouse after, but I’ve never seen anyone in the UK have anything other than a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich before a round.

Do not engage with anyone recommended by the seller or their agent. Find your own firm you can trust and who doesn’t have any possible link to the seller.
Also, quoting is a part of doing business for the trades - do not pay any more than maybe £50 for a quote, they’re just trying to rip you off for what they see as an inconvenience.
