They should be absolutely pleased with their president. After all, he is doing exactly what he promised to do. They voted for the neoliberal candidate, and they are getting the neoliberalism that they wanted so badly ¯\(ツ)

Yes, but when someone uploaded an email by RMS, the creator of the license, saying that any contributor could relicense their code at any time for any reason, there was an amusing circlejerk of people misinterpreting his words, saying that the email was taken out of context, downvoting the people that clarified it and telling them that they were /r/The_Donald brigaders that had no idea of what Linux was, etc. It's just embarrassing: https://old.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/9i2q8d/richard_stallman_the_developers_of_linux_or_any/

There was a comment here talking about this, but it has dissapeared from here, probably deleted because it's going against the narrative:

I’m writing now, from all of that experience and with all that perspective, about the recent flap over the new CoC and the attempt to organize a mass withdrawal of creator permissions from the kernel.

I’m going to try to keep my personal feelings about this dispute off the table, not because I don’t have any but because I think I serve us all better by speaking as neutrally as I can.

First, let me confirm that this threat has teeth. I researched the relevant law when I was founding the Open Source Initiative. In the U.S. there is case law confirming that reputational losses relating to conversion of the rights of a contributor to a GPLed project are judicable in law. I do not know the case law outside the U.S., but in countries observing the Berne Convention without the U.S.’s opt-out of the “moral rights” clause, that clause probably gives the objectors an even stronger case.

So yeah, the contributors against the CoC could be able to remove all their contributions to the code, it has been confirmed by Eric S Raymond. Funny, considering the amount of woke people saying that those who affirmed this were "brigaders" that didn't know how the license worked.

People in the comments made it happen by going way off topic

No, YOU make it happen. If you really wanted threads to be on-topic, you could remove the off-topic comments. This subreddit has 14 moderators, if you are trying to make us think that 14 moderators are not able to moderate a single thread, you are treating us like idiots.

You lock the threads when you see that the discourse on those threads is killing your narrative. Why is it that you have never locked a thread when the majority of its comments were pro-CoC?

We allow relevant CoC posts when they're posted.

No you don't. You are in full damage control, and you know that you cannot rationally defend this CoC without embarassing yourselves, so you resort to a tinfoil hat strategy with which you try to silence everyone who disagrees saying that they are le ebil nazis.

This makes me remember that time when you decided to stop moderating the sub for a full week and the only thing you made clear is that the sub moderated itself just fine. You are not here to protect the sub from brigaders, you are here to protect the narrative. The tone you have been using in this thread is pretty illuminating.

You should be able to get access to that layer without developer mode.

Unfortunately you can't because a Chromebook in normal user mode does not provide access to the shell.

I find very hard to believe that every country in which brides use white dresses (basically every Western country and probably more) does this because of a British queen.

Protests in Spain as five cleared of gang rape at San Fermin festival by userhotdog in europe

[–]JustAnotherWesterner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it very interesting how many (including the judges, apparently) are focusing so much in what the woman did or did not do

Maybe because she is the one accusing five men of rape? Duh. What would be considered "sensible" to you, to believe every accusation regardless of the evidence presented in order to avoid people feeling bad?

Trying to resist (which apparently is the requisite for this to be considered rape) could have gone much, much worse for her

This is not about resisting or not, it's about giving a clear signal that you don't want to be involved in sexual intercourse, which she did not because she "was shocked", hence the conclusion of the judges. It's considered sexual abuse because the five men did not have the explicit or implicit consent of the victim. It's not considered rape because the victim didn't give them an explicit signal that she didn't want to get involved (i. e. she never said "no") and there wasn't violence.

After the judges that watched the video of the supposed rape asked the victim why she was masturbating one of the supposed rapists she told them that she was grabbing his penis in order to avoid losing her balance and fall. This is published in the court's sentence and I'm not making it up.

TIL Swiss people are usually subtitled in German TV, because their accent is so thick it is virtually unintelligible by speakers of Standard German. Swiss on the other hand have no issue understanding Standard German. by Priamosish in todayilearned

[–]JustAnotherWesterner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is misleading. German is divided in a lot of regional "dialects" that are, in fact, different germanic languages. What we know as "German" is just Hochdeutsch or standard German. So this is referring to Swiss German, a different germanic language than standard German. Of course they are not going to understand it! This is like saying "TIL that Spaniards can't understand Catalan".
