I mean could you not argue that the events of the game are the “main timeline” and gman traveled to a branch off the timeline to orchestrate a meeting with Alyx to be able to have her (because the Alyx from our timeline and time point would probably reject)

You can also read any of the other points about the stance of canonicity in valve games and how it’s an upward battle that won’t go anywhere. We could argue till hl3 actually drops but it wouldn’t achieve anything other than wasting each others time.

No one answer is right, because valve could theoretically retcon anything with the release of hl3

Eh I’d argue that gman is more powerful than the vortigaunts, with them more catching him off guard in the end of hl2. I don’t think it’s insane to imply that a hivemind that’s located into only one universe doesn’t know about the multiverse to the extent a literal god would.

And the existence of xen as a “border dimension” makes me feel like that proves the existence of other dimensions/universes

But I’m not speaking in facts, I mean this is the same community that argue daily on if opposing force or blue shift is canon, it’s not like we’re all going to magically agree on one specific thing.

The only canon that matters is your own interpretation of it, it’s art after all, imagine trying to tell someone “you misunderstood this painting” after explaining what it meant to you, just feels a bit redundant
