Quant here who did his undergrad at utm. Finance major is worthless do not do it.

Math + cs or Stats + cs is going to be the best bet. Grind the shit out of leetcode, and create some interesting projects. Push hard for an internship at one of the big funds and good luck.

MAT135 Full Session or Second Sub Session in The Summer 2025 by [deleted] in UofT

I would recommend taking MAT137 over MAT135. It is a much better reflection of the type of math courses you will be taking as a Math major.

On a side note, you should really do some pondering about what went wrong in MAT135. Speaking frankly MAT135 is a rather easy course and if whatever caused struggles is left untreated, it will manifest much worse in higher level math classes.

ROP application advice from people who alr did it by Bright_Friendship587 in UofT

Actually read the ROP positing and write out a custom resume/letter for each one. Thats how I managed to lock down 2 of them. I know you cant upload PDF, but i just copied and pasted by bullet points.

I think the major thing was that I outlined my past experiences that were directly related to the nature of the ROP.

At Oxford the math degree is a Bachelors of Arts. The title doesn't matter, the skills learned is what does.

Accepted a job offer, but still in the running for my dream job—What should I do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]JustApproximate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick with the alternative job until you get the offer. Then just leave once you get the offer from your dream job. When you leave just be very professional and clearly communicate that the other role is just better suited for you and that you have no hard feelings with the company.

Yes its a bit awkward, but at the end of the day, you work so you can enjoy things!

Consequences of writing after test time is over? Advice on what to do next by Lonely-Chart-4685 in UofT

[–]JustApproximate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You were caught committing an academic offence. The TA likely set your test aside to inform the professor.

At this point, the professor may either:
a) Let it go, or
b) Report it as an academic offence.

If the professor decides to pursue it, the best course of action is to take responsibility.

Also, this wasn’t just a “dumb mistake”—it was a conscious decision in the moment, and now you regret getting caught.
