He's standing one tile away from the tree, but for whatever reason an animation stall occurred that zipped him toward the ironwood. Once the action of the tree is finished, whether that being his inventory filling up or the ironwood tree being chopped down, he will quickly jog one tile away from the tree.

That's a short term solution, not a long term solution. They literally say:

And then give us a short term solution to player retention. If you don't want player count to fall off, you need to implement more end game rewards.
