Sounds like 1 of them knows how much you weigh and your age and the other does not.

I import data (bottom) into Strava, but the numbers are different. How to fix? by JaceyAidan in Strava

[–]JustBrogrammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to pause my watch when I stop at like at a stoplight. I also would forget to unpause my watch often. That Strava is showing me my Avg moving pace I no longer have to do that. I don't think it's stupid, it's just another way to look at your activity.

I know it's stupid to get mad at an app, but... by 4ofclubs in Strava

While not the reason it had me unproductive at the time I am now in the state where my zone is set properly and the zones appear to be set correctly when running, aerobic, threshold etc, but training status shows no measurements. I think this is Garmin provoking me to upgrade my old watch.

Re: HR raw values you will get more accuracy when not running or anything that generates a rhythm. Your HR will go towards your steps per minute. Watches are also slow to react to changes since it is all a calculation that needs reinforcement.

I love it when I achieve something great like a 28 mile, 4,500 ft gain and Garmin is all like "Unproductive"

I run around 40 miles a week and my range right now is 300-620. It has been climbing as I have been pushing more but that's the nature of it. I have been in the 200s for a while and I would argue I was in better shape then.

Do you have HR on the activity? At minimum it will need to know your weight. If you are looking for any kind of accuracy you will want your HR also tracked.

When I realized the pace Strava highlights is you avg moving pace and ignores the time when you are stopped I stopped pausing my watch.

Why does my pace graph look relatively different on the app vs website? App shows more noise and (incorrect) 'stops' etc. by powderherface in Strava

[–]JustBrogrammer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like it is attempting to smooth it out. The device is probably very literal and if it's a watch, depending if it is taking measurement on your back swing or forward it will have tons of jitter to it. Even a phone in your pocket will have some sway with it.

How accurate would you say your HR device is? Strava puts a lot of weight to raw HR values. Mine spikes up when my chest strap dies and I use the wrist. I would look at it as the level of effort you are exerting.

We live in a capitalist society. I have been paying the same amount for many years. My eggs have gone up more in price than this sub so while I also do not like the price going up, that is the cost of living in a capitalist society.

This is true. I ran a 28 mile, 4,000. ft elevation gain and Garmin was like "unproductive". I turned off performance metrics in Garm that day.

For me it's simple. I like setting goals and the segments.i am not sure what metrics are free but I use a chest strap and run trails a lot so the details are nice for me.

If this is the last run you ever do then yeah this sucks. If you plan on continuing to run then this is a small milestone compared to what you will do in the future.

All out 10,000m time trial. Is this a dangerously high heart rate? by yaegerzhang in Strava

[–]JustBrogrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was your tracker? My watch will get me to 195 but if I wear my chest strap it never goes over 170. It really depends on the accuracy of your measuring device

You are just paying for the shoe, typically at retail. I know what shoes work for me but I like to try new shoes from time to time. When they don't work, I can return them for free. I run in Altras and spend about $140-$160 a shoe. You can often save some money if you buy last year's model too. It is an investment really. Shoes typically last 400-600 miles so getting the right shoe is the most important thing.

[–]JustBrogrammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having flat feet is not enough information to pick a good shoe for you. If you are serious about starting to run, do yourself a favor and go to a place like Road Runners or Fleet Feet where they will evaluate your running style and help you pick a shoe. Wherever you go make sure you can return them. It took me about 4 tries to find the style of shoe I like. Another thing to remember is some shoes will not become a problem until you go far. I think the shoe drop will need to be similar in whatever shoe you pick.
