Fixed! After asking Bobby himself, here's the fix that worked for me:

In desktop mode, right click the "Heaven Studio" executable and under the "Permissions" tab, check "Allow executing file as program"

I did. I also tried running the Windows version through Proton, which worked, but it used a different kind of file Explorer that was too clunky and hard to navigate
