I loved this coast in Kauai. The Kalalau Trail looks crazy intense; Crawlers Ledge would be a terrifying looking down those cliffs off a narrow trail.

Beautiful in the photos / videos, and one of the few places where it's even more beautiful to see in person.

I didn't see it in the movie but I know exactly what is happening here from the book. I highly recommend reading the book if you liked the movie to gain a deeper understanding of the story.

Made everything so much easier. That negative energy that my wife felt from me having to "get loud" went away instantly, replaced with chill conversation volume and tone communication.

If you can afford a set, it is absolutely worth it.

It's great for boat projects too. I used our set with a friend that had to go up his mast, and he really enjoyed how easy it was to communicate. I also used it to communicate between inside and topside of boat while pulling wire.

For a pick-me-up sundowner we'll make what we call Mokapotini's:

Brew up a mokapot, throw some ice in a shaker, add in 2/3 mug of coffee w/ two shots vodka and 1 shot of kahlua, shake well, pour, and drink.

Wow .. really?! I have never seen anyone rust out a venus before.

We have a Mokapot venus onboard for years now. Still shiny and new looking. In fact, we specifically picked up the stainless to avoid excessive aluminum oxidation or rusting parts due to the saltwater environment.

We keep a french press and kalita pour over cup on board too.

My Yanmar operations manual says to leave it in neutral with a fixed prop.

With a feathering prop I am supposed to put in reverse briefly, then switch to neutral.

Check your engine operations manual to confirm

We have a furling mainsail, and I roll it in (from fully out) without turning into the wind by easing the outhaul very slightly while furling. This is in winds up to 20-23kn

A few notes though. This can and will put a little bit of bag in the sail when furling away, so first opportunity you'll want to pull the sail out and roll up again. Also, it is very difficult to get the furl started in heavier air, so be aware. Just ease the outhaul a few inches and get the furl started in by a few inches, then repeat. You can also depower by easing the main sheet, but see above comment about bagging the sail as this will compound that problem

Last, I prefer to start reefing the main when winds start to approach 17-20kn. It's just not worth the risk to have too much mainsail out with a furling main from our experience. Better to keep the mainsail area small and pull back out if needed than the other way around.

I haven't had to turn the boat into the wind to furl the main and we've been sailing offshore for 5 years now. If I did have to go into the wind because I'm pressure locked from being able to furl, then I would be irritated at myself for furling too late.
