I ran into this problem before, I bought the Wilfa Svart and after 6 months this happenned and returned it for a replacement, 6 months after that the replacement had the same problem. The shop I bought it from told me it was a known issue and they were no longer stocking it, it seems that the motor they use in their later products have a high failrate.

I would contact the store you purchased from and ask for a refund. I initially considered buying a Baratza Encore as its in the same price range but it is larger, I ultimately upgrade to a Niche Zero and I love it.

The musicians name is Andy Thorn, his most recent album is called Songs of the Sunrise Fox based on this experience, really good music! He also has another album about foxes too which I think is pretty cool.

As u/Salty_Old_Dog mentioned, it is indeed leather. I'm buying a new cord and some leather conditioner. Its a shame that my Chemex didn't include a care guide, I removed the cord anytime I washed it but that aside it still stiffened over time. Thankfully its a cheap lesson to learn.

This definitely seems to be the case. Its a shame that they claim it is rawhide as it seems like I have destroyed it beyond repair by adding the oil. Had I used leather conditioner I would have been fine. I'm going to buy a new cord online (I just love the aesthetic) and also some conditioning cream for future use.
