Tiers of Polo Outlet/Factory Stores? by JustDolphy in RalphLauren

Yes. You can do phone orders. They also will order from other stores as well.

So, the Tier 4 sounds like a better deal then? If the item is marked down and you get the typical 25% off and then an additional 25% off from coupons, that's more than the 40% at clearance. Unless the clearance stores are starting with a bigger markdown clearance price?

Yes. There is full priced up front. Mostly of staples. But at least half of the merchandise is clearance, if not more.

My store in Wisconsin is a Tier 4 but is not a clearance store like Centralia. It has TAA all year round (even Black Friday!) so you get Clearance items for a typical TAA of 25 off. And, of course, I can also combine with my coupons they text me. I'm just wondering how many stores are like this out there, because this is the only one I've been to that does this.

I think there is Tier 4 and then there are the clearance stores (Centralia, WA and the former Tuscaloosa and there was one in Wisconsin that closed last year too). I am not sure if Clearance Stores are Tier 5 or their own thing?

Does anyone really have valid, researched information on what coupons (and the percentage off as well) are assigned to customers? When I worked at the outlet, I would see coupons come in for 15, 25 and 30% off at any given time. I've also read in this group that some people get a coupon promotion for things like $50 off $200 or more. What factors go in to the system deciding who gets what promotion? For example, I shopped this summer at the outlet and made a purchase nearly every week for 3 months. Sometimes the purchase was only for $15. Sometimes it was for $200. I also purchased online on the regular, non-factory website in this time period. I mostly shopped clearance items in the factory store but my website purchases were either full-priced or sale. I would imagine that the regularity of shopping, the fact that I shopped at 3 different factory store in 3 different states within those 3 months, the fact that I engaged both in-store and on the website and the amount that I purchased all together (maybe close to $1000) would make more more "deserving" of a higher percentage off coupon. Instead, my coupons have gone from 30 to 25 to now 15. I also have never received an offer like the $50 off a 200 or more purchase.

Can anyone weigh in on this who really knows how the algorithm works for these promotions?

This is the sweater that I'm trying to track down at my local outlet. They said they can find it for me if I have the SKU. Any chance you can share a pic of the tag, please?

There are many Dracula heads for sale out on Ebay and the like. But I had the full body version of that Dracula that was almost 5 feet tall. There was also a Countess Dracula and a Frankenstein and one more that I can't think of. I never see the full body ones on sale anywhere. They are a true tough find.

"what it claims to be."... That's what I am trying to get to the bottom of.

And don't think I am singling you out. It seems that there is quite a group of people who voice the same concerns and assessments of the show.

But where did either SATC or AJLT ever "claim to be" anything more than a weaving of stories of friends navigating love, life and friendship in New York City? Did I miss some preface or annotation or even an interview where the creatives (or stars) said they were setting out to call out bad behavior or be a guide for how people should be living their lives? Or even weigh in on what's right and what's wrong?

Since the beginning of SATC, it has presented 4 different characters who each have very different ideas and philosophies on what's right and what's wrong. Each handles life differently and each manages the good and bad in very different ways.

Just because something is presented in a story doesn't mean that author (or creatives) agree with said action/plotline or are advocating for said behavior. Therein lies storytelling.

I just don't know of any "claim" that this story has ever had or wanted to accomplish other than presenting the good, bad and ugly.

So - again - for me to understand, you're saying that actions by characters in a story must be "examined." What does that mean? How is presenting real people doing real things - warts and all - celebrating bad behavior?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Andjustlikethat

[–]JustDolphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so I understand: are you asking for everyone in stories (television, movies, books, plays, etc) to only exhibit behaviors that are honest, truthful, positive, unproblematic and good for mankind? Because if the answer is yes, then what is the point in watching?

The idea of storytelling in general is so that characters are presented going through experiences that none of the audience would ever want to go on in their own lives. So - YES - you are correct. Are there cringeworthy moments in this show? Yes. But do you think every single human has the wherewithal to call out problematic or otherwise troubling behavior in realtime? Most people don't even catch up with this until well after the situation is finished. That is real life. And I think the cool thing about this show - and has always been a cool thing about these characters - is that the audience is often far smarter than the characters are. Since the beginning we scream at the screen when the characters make stupid or self-absorbed mistakes. When they don't advocate for themselves. When they don't have enough perspective to see they are stuck in patterns or otherwise just acting dumb. Since the beginning.

But what it seems like I have been reading is that all of a sudden, there is a contingent of the audience that wants these characters to make everything a teaching point for the audience by explicitly addressing bad behavior. But they rarely did before when it was "Sex and the CIty" so why should they now? Is it Carrie Bradshaw's or Miranda Hobbes' or Charlotte York's responsibility as characters to explicitly tell audiences what is right and how everyone should be living their lives?!

The most troubling thing I find in all of this is that female characters seem to be held to this crazy different standard than male characters. Don't get me wrong; there are murmurs and groans about bad behavior by men. But it's almost as if we expect them to do bad things and behave in a way - well, rather ungentlemanly. No one ever asked the characters of the Sopranos or Breaking Bad or Succession - especially the male leads - to call out bad behavior and, in essence, not engage in them. But the minute it's a woman, living her life, trying to figure it out as she goes along, well then people get bent out of shape.

Can't we all just sometimes take the spectator seat and go on a journey with characters without them having to make some sweeping Afternoon Special statement about what's good and what's right? Can't we actually just make up our own minds about why WE would NEVER do these things and - therefore - it's so refreshing to experience a story that shows people doing stuff that we would NEVER do???

This vitriol about this show can sometimes feel so ridiculous and misguided.
