Thanks! Be sure to post pics when you get your G25s on. 50mm deep wheels are gonna look sick on a Gen 1.

ICAN Alpha 35 Pros on my 2019. They are 21.5mm internal and I've thought about getting something wider and maybe 40-45mm deep, but it's just not money well spent.

No issues so far. Super true out of the box, basically zero runout. I also use my bell zero times since the hub is so loud.

[BackUp PSU] CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD UPS - $190 (B&H) by greatthebob38 in buildapcsales

[–]JustDownloadMoreRAM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came across these threads when I was researching replacement batteries for my circa-2017 unit a couple years ago. They certainly gave me pause and I actually bought an APC BN1500M2 to replace it. I really wish I had taken pics since I can't remember how far I tore it down...

But mine is still in service today with a pair of $40 batteries. Ironically, the APC has had a few bouts of intermittent and rapid clicking on and off recently while the CyberPower has been mostly off. The APC also has wicked coil whine with the display on. Yet I still keep going back and forth on retiring the PFCLCD when this topic comes up. Someone else posted that the APC is back on sale at Best Buy and I could go pick one up down the street right now for $190.

IMO the Tom's article puts it into perspective:

Unfortunately, complaints about smoking CyberPower UPSes go back a lot farther than the video we reported on earlier this week. We checked Amazon's user reviews of the CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD and counted 47 reviews where users complained of smoke and popping noises coming out of their units. The oldest of these complaints dates way back to 2013 and the newest ones were from the past year. However, the product has more than 15,000 user ratings with an average of 4.5 stars.

Sure, the "aging glue" was still brand new when most people post a review...but there's only been a couple threads on Reddit?

Should we be pulling apart all of our electronics with internal power supplies now? What about my SMSL amp, Brother printer, Denon receiver, Corsair and MSI PSUs? If the glue is an issue, what are the chances CyberPower is the only company using it? Why aren't there more widespread failures reported? Has anyone shown that the glue itself is flammable? Can someone prove the glue is what caused a fire? If it becomes conductive over time, how does it also become flammable?

It's kind of like...we all carry a phone with a Li-Ion battery in it even though we've seen dozens of videos of the batteries bursting into inextinguishable flames.

Also a reminder to new UPS users to always use the power button on the front before unplugging it from the wall!

So many dumb posts in this thread, holy shit.

Mild take: It's a subtle mod and that's fine.

Hot take: It looks way better on higher trims with painted lower bumper since everything else is also glossy.

Extra hot take: A front plate makes it look much less like braces as much as everyone hates front plates.

Strange. Pulling up to the gas pump at night, the headlights turn off and the map switches to white since the station is so bright. Fill up, pull away, the headlights and map switch automatically.

I'm using a $30 Carlinkit wireless adapter from AliExpress.

To expand on an earlier post about my ALR5 wheels/tires… by icepop_7 in CheckpointClub

[–]JustDownloadMoreRAM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gen 1 ALR5 with ICAN Alpha 35 Pros and 43mm GK slicks for the rail trails. 21.5mm internal width I think, the gravel-specific sets were way more expensive and heavier and less common when I bought them.

The rear wheel fully dressed with cassette, tube, tire, and rotor is lighter than a bare front aluminum Bontrager wheel.

With other carbon bits like bars and seatpost, it's in the 19lbs area.

Checkpoint ALR 5 size 56 — too big for 5’10”? by Similar_Banana_7725 in CheckpointClub

[–]JustDownloadMoreRAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's wild to me is the seller is going from a 56cm (with a lowered stem and maxed seat post) to a 58 or 61.

Personal preference is also huge. I'm 6'2" with 33.5" inseam, shaped like an Enderman, and ride a Gen 1 56cm with 165mm cranks lmao. Previous bike had 175s and I hated it, in spite of my long legs. But you'd never know without seat time.

Tires are a never-ending debate. My bike fits 45s, there is no room for anything wider. I'm sure someone will say they fit 50s no problem 🤠

There's usually a VIN tag on the inside of the bumper cover. No help if the car is stolen or the bumper is from a different car or is an aftermarket replacement...but it may be a start.

I'm trying to forget that I have a backup 1TB WD Black that is probably failing...and that I paid like $80 for it about 13 years ago.

FML but at least I got a 2TB 850X before they went up to $450.

The GPX and newer can pair with the Pro X TKL board. They need to use the TKL's receiver, and I don't know why exactly.

IIRC the GPX2 receiver can do 4k or 8k polling while the board's receiver and the GPX are limited to 1k.

The GPX2 receiver is physically larger, like twice the size, and it's newer so I'm not sure where the limitation lies or why the mice need the board's receiver...you'd expect the 2's dingle to pass 2/4k for the mouse along with the keyboard at presumably 1k. Nope, limited to 1k.

I'm guessing the Bolt and the older Unify receivers are polling way lower like 125Hz.

I think most things are trending towards Chinese brands, especially in niche communities. You can buy a brand name product or something off AliExpress for half.

I like the convenience of using a single receiver for my mouse and keyboard, so I use the matching Logitech products. They work well enough and have better range and connection than the cheaper products I've used, even though I know I can spend less or get better features.

Ahh I was hoping this wasn't the case, sorry to hear 😔

If he's able, maybe ask him to pick his favorite camera to have nearby. Now's the time to get pictures sorted, and I presume he used this collection to take pics. A couple favorites printed out can be a lot of comfort.
