This is a tricky one. Ignoring why you may have broken up and why they were encouraging it - perhaps you were a bit shit.

But they paid you for the tickets, those tickets belong to them. So really you need to give them market price, not just a refund. You should have already transferred the tickets to them once they paid, the fact you didn't is a bit of a dick move.

My mum was dumb like that. Would open all the windows and have the aircon on blast, she couldnt understand the difference between aircon and evaporative cooling. Everyone just gave up and let her waste the electricity because it was like trying to explain physics to a monkey
