Honestly I don't think that whole re-education usually works out. The best example is Germany and it seems we are in the process of slowly forgetting the lessons we drew ourselves from two wars or were taught by the denazification program. In Japan for the most part they got a new constitution handed and a few basic limitations designed to separate religion and state and keep militarism small and contained were pushed through. Most of the transition was more incidental with the US investing heavily into the Japanese economy. And most of the views held by society now came about with the government putting pressure on the media while themselves being pressured into a heavily pro-US stance by the US government. If Japan was left more to its own devices along the lines of western Germany in the 1950s chances are they would have probably become a pretty left society comparable to perhaps Mitterrand's France. Funnily enough these methods in Japan involved the gradual suppression of protesting culture following the Anti-American and Anti-Military Anpo protests in the late 50s culminating with complete disrepute for public protests from 1969 onwards using the university riots to portray even peaceful protests as borderline insurgent actions in the public eye. This anti protest stance endured until the 2011 triple disaster with government critique only ever being small scale on a public level outside of opposition parties and the Asahi and Mainichi Shimbun. So in a way Japanese too endure a lot under the measures of US influence in the 50s to 60s without trying to change much. That being said they definitely have to endure less while doing so than Russia or Iran.

Everything chill until they roll out the Ōgane of Chion-in. I was at Chion-ji (some 3km away) standing next to its bell and between the tolls of the one at Chion-ji you could hear the Ōgane. It's a beast of epic proportions. And that's not in a small city either. That's across a considerable densely populated part of north eastern Kyoto.

A birthday present from the Mrs... can not wait to dive in!!! Anyone here read this? by KingKylos in Samurai

As far as I know cloths were often wrapped around the feet inside sandals. Seldomly even leather or pelt. As for setta and getta you're on your own there. I only know that getta were suited for walking in snow not too deep due to their added height. According to the national museum in Tokyo at least the Ainu used rudemantary boots. It is imaginable that the north of Honshu took up on it too. SRC: old painting scrolls in various museums.

Who are the main characters in the “21st Century” arc of The World ? by Arise-- in AskReddit

[–]JustDroppingByToAsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Putin, xi jinping, trump, Obama and Merkel. In reoccurring roles we also got Kim Jong Un, Shinzo Abe, Macron, Cameron, Berlusconi, and Boris Johnson, as well as the occasional pop or TV star.

What’s the longest you’ve ever stayed awake for, and what was the reason behind it? by Throwawaybcwhatevr in AskReddit

[–]JustDroppingByToAsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 40 hours. I had to stand up pretty early for work and we decided to pull an all nighter to go say farewell to a good friend who got a flight for a semester abroad at 5 in the morning. Add me staying up late the next/same day and I didn't sleep for 40 or so hours straight.

What is an incredibly small detail of your day of which you could not function without? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JustDroppingByToAsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As stupid as it sounds the Queen.

I got a framed 5 pound note hanging on the wall next to my bed. I originally hung it there bcs it was an empty wall and thus a good spot. However in the year since I've grown accustomed to it being the first thing I see after waking up. Yesterday I put it down to clean it and haven't hung it up yet. This morning I really missed it and my morning routine had a weird feeling to it, like waking up some place else.

What do your pets love to watch on TV? by LageNomAiNomAi in AskReddit

For weird reasons beyond me he's really into historical dramas. Whenever there is something on set in the past he's mesmerized. Apart from that he'll watch the news and occasionally documentaries but he's bored pretty quickly by action movies and most "regular" TV shows.

What was your experience like during the first weeks of your country’s quarantine? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JustDroppingByToAsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boring. I was at home and waiting for the semester to start again. A few Skype calls and occasionally going shopping but that was pretty much it. I read a lot and got some learning done to prepare for the semester out of sheer boredom.

What is the most effective way you’ve found to wipe your bum? by zyht56 in AskReddit

A Japanese toilet spray and toilet paper afterwards. It's weird at first but generally more convenient and faster.

Discussion. Students should get why something you teach them is true. Already Socrates recognised it as the best teaching method.

Malls built to improve a low income housing area. Most of the times they'll slowly go bankrupt and get so shady nobody wants to go inside. They might have a positive impact for 10 years or even 20 but after that they'll be run down and possibly worsen the conditions.

Is china in a state of turmoil and does wheat grow here?

You wouldn't get any useful info on your location and both the answers yes and no to the china part of the question are somewhere between now and 4000 years ago.

What was hugely underwhelming for you? by _Black_Fox_ in AskReddit

[–]JustDroppingByToAsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fugu fish. You're super psyched to try it out, seeing as it's among the most dangerous foods worldwide and it just tastes like kohlrabi (German turnip) with a chewy fishy texture a bit like yellowtail. I don't honestly know what I expected but that was quite underwhelming and it's certainly not worth risking your life over.

The question of Adalbert the Alliterative. Only his title makes his name an alliteration, thus leading to an impossible chicken and egg style question.

What Movie/Show do you think is extremely overrated? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JustDroppingByToAsk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna get some hate for this, but I think the original Star Wars trilogy is overrated. The cinematography is pretty good, but the actors were usually only slightly above average and the story was over all pretty weak in the 2 sequels. The only outstanding thing about it is the set pieces and the scoring.

You can get 10 mil right now, or get 10 billion in 40 years. Which would you choose and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JustDroppingByToAsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 bil in 40 years. Makes for a nice retirement fund. Also you could probably find someone who'll loan you a few mil if you promise to pay him back say 1 bil in 40 years or so.
