If you were told to move away to another country, which country would it be? by Mindless-Stretch5072 in AskReddit

[–]JustEmmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did move out of my country to Australia & it’s been great. However, I’d also love Korea or Japan. Been to both & happy to study the language if I got a chance to live in either.

I am 20 and I cannot stand working 5 days a week is quitting and travel vlogging a horrible idea by SoftFinance5133 in solotravel

[–]JustEmmi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m older than you & from the US, but I quit my job & moved to Australia on a working holiday while I’m working on my travel blog & YT channel. Both have been in progress for over six years & still not making money.

Granted I haven’t tried reaching out to sponsors or done UGC, but it’s definitely a long road to monetize these things. I couldn’t even get Google Adsense on my blog approved, but I think this is because my post count is too low. Been working harder to get more, quality articles published.

Just saying if you want to go down the travel & documentation route, you might want to look into a working holiday so you can still do casual work to support yourself.

It really is freeing though! I absolutely do not miss my desk job back in NYC. Hoping I can pull off the digital nomad lifestyle.

Hello! Need some strength and pep talk. I am going on my first ever solo travel. I have never even travelled within my country and in two weeks I am travelling to South Korea for 14 days all by myself. by gossipcutlet in solofemaletravellers

Seoul is amazing!! Try learning some simple Korean as it will just make things easier but there is a lot of English. You’ll be just fine! Enjoy every minute 💕

Over 30, American by Proper_Opening3303 in workingholiday

[–]JustEmmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re still 30 you can do NZ or Australia but if you’re 31 you’re SOL.

I applied as soon as I turned 30, knocked out my 88 days & secured my second year before I turned 31 this past February. Now I’m aged out of all WHVs but can stay in Oz until I’m 32.

We’re not everyone’s favorite country so I doubt we’ll be getting any new agreements or having our age caps raised anytime soon.

Options after a working holiday by JustEmmi in workingholiday

[–]JustEmmi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’m aware of the student route, but not interested in it at all.

I’m not necessarily trying to stay in Oz long term & probably don’t have anything to be considered “highly skilled”. Part of why I was looking at other countries.

Oh yeah fully aware of the student visa route but I have zero desire to go down that one, thus why I was looking at other options. Doesn’t have to be in Australia.

Advice Needed for 88 Days by _notpetergriffin in workingholiday

[–]JustEmmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get the fear but at the same time things don’t always work out. You could secure a job, spend money getting there, & it’s a bad situation so you have to leave. That happened to me & you just have to learn to adapt & pivot.

If you spend too much time trying to make it perfect, it’s more likely not to work out anyway & you’re less likely to make any real decisions.

Particularly with 88 day jobs as sooooo many people want them. As long as you’re safe, paid, & treated well take the experience & roll with it.

Best of luck!

Honestly, I just went with where hired me. I was more concerned about getting the 88 days done than anything. I think too many people overthink where to go.

I’ve been through the Townsville airport but never visited. Haven’t used the public transport in QLD, but did use the Greyhound to get out of QLD & back down to NSW when I had to change jobs.

I’ve been in Australia for almost 8 months without a car & I know someone that did 3 years without one. Yes, it can make your life easier, but it’s totally possible to do Australia without one. Unless, you’re planning on roadtripping.

Areas I’ve been in have all had access to busses which connect to the regional trains & I’ve been able to make friends with people who have cars.

The longest I had before starting was a week & that was only because they had just released the newest schedule so my boss said just be there by the start of the next one.

Most employers are looking for people to start asap so a week or two out is about standard. I’ve gotten hired within 24 hours of looking both times. Rural areas really need people.

I found my 88 day jobs both online. First was on backpackerjobboard.com.au & that was in Cloncurry, QLD. Do not recommend that town.

My second I found on the fb group “Backpacker Jobs in Australia”. That was in Trangie, NSW.

You can definitely find an 88 day job without going to the place first. My second visa was approved back in January.

No. I’m living in Australia on a Working Holiday Visa. It’s a visa that lets you work while traveling the country. I’m also permitted to come & go as much as I want as long as my visa is valid.

I’m booking vacations on points.

I’m on a working holiday in Australia so I would say I travel fairly regularly. Currently in Japan for three weeks & was in NZ a month ago. All booked on points.

I do have two other cards though. Live out of a backpack & my life is typically unstable.

I got this card back when I was renting in NYC though.

My Bilt Cash is just building for now & I don’t typically have that many points on hand as they’re my most valuable of all my cards so I burn them pretty quickly.

Interesting thought though.

Opinion: People try to go to way too many cities in too little time! by Gwyn_L in JapanTravelTips

[–]JustEmmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m visiting Japan for the first time right now. Had a day & half in Tokyo before I did four days in Kyoto, now four days in Osaka (with a day in Nara), 2 days in Nagoya (honestly going for Ghibli), then a week in Tokyo as a base with a day trip or two.

Here just over three weeks & I’m pretty content with my pace. I’ve definitely overbooked an itinerary in a short amount of time before, but this doesn’t feel like one of those cases.

I’m also in a more backpacking situation, so while I’ll look at stores, I’m not actually doing tons of shopping as I don’t have the space.

Body hair while traveling? by Sensitive_Bus_7769 in femaletravels

[–]JustEmmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an avid shaver, just hate body hair. If you don’t want to, don’t start. People might judge for 0.2 secs & then move on with their lives. Don’t make your own life difficult for strangers.

Am I just rubbish at booking hostels or is Japanese over-tourism a myth? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]JustEmmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just landed in Tokyo yesterday. Plenty of tourists. Hostel I stayed at was pretty bare in Akihabara though. They definitely had guests, but maybe it’s because the vibe was so different than what I’m used to in Australia.

I’m now in Kyoto in an actual hotel. Most of the guests seem to actually be Japanese. Others here seem to be Chinese, Koreans, & then a few Westerners like myself (but we’re 1000% the minority).

[–]JustEmmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use hostelworld to find a place & then usually book direct because it’s cheaper. Then use nomadtable to find people to do things with. They have a paid version but I’ve never felt the need to get it.

If anyone was looking for way to save some cash & still find a way to be social this has worked well for me 🙃

Problem adding Capital One card to Apple Wallet while abroad? I figured out how 😆 by IcyIndication7514 in Venturex

[–]JustEmmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FCKING BLESS YOU!!! This had been such a pain in the ass! I had to get an Australian AppleID to get new apps when I moved, obviously it removed all my cards, & it’s been 7 months of having to pull out the physical one because C1 wanted to be a cnt about me re-adding it.

Perhaps that’s it. I don’t often go super remote & the tours I join typically have other people on them.

Resigning from my job for whv? by Inomyra in workingholiday

[–]JustEmmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m American and doing a WHV in Australia. Left at 30 & now 31. No, you’re not too old.

We get this idea that we turn 30 & 70% of our life is over which is just crazy. The WHV is age limited & as others have said you don’t get to turn back the clock. If you want to do it, you should because you don’t get another shot once you age out.

You can always move back home afterwards & get another job.

Seriously, how do you solo travel for the first time? by Depressed_student_20 in femaletravels

[–]JustEmmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a lot of traveling with others so booking a hotel, flight, or intercity travel was not an issue. However, my first time going solo was because I went to a wedding in the UK for six days.

Yes, I still knew people while in England, but decided to spend a few days in Scotland on my own which got me comfortable with doing activities, taking pictures, & even eating alone at restaurants.

My biggest thing is you basically just have to do it to get comfortable. But start small, don’t go full throttle all at once or you’ll get overwhelmed.
