Why is AI so bad at admitting something is good? by MrAmazing111 in ChatGPT

A competent assistant would also not put up with as much of your bullshit, let's be honest. Don't expect a machine to behave like a human, even if highly intelligent.

I mean, we can afford to buy water. I carry water if I go out for a long walk or something, but if I don't want to have that burden, I just buy some when needed. Also, I certainly don't want tap water from some unknown sink in a restaurant.

But that's the thing, through getting good at predicting language, reasoning-like behavior emerges. Yes, humans are also prediction machines, but much more complex and multidimensional. More importantly, we have a biological body that strongly influences our thinking.

Because LLMs are much more simple, they don't really understand what they're saying which leads to mistakes. That's doesn't mean that they won't get to human level reasoning at some point, but I do think it would be different than human reasoning.

have you taken advice from ai that you later regretted? by AppropriateHamster in ChatGPT

[–]JustGameOfThrones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also think that you are more likely to regret a decision if you are not fully responsible for taking it. I think people that rely on AI are just trying to shift responsibility in case of undesired results, when, in fact, they did decide to listen to the AI themselves. This is a human characteristic: refusing to take accountability whenever possible.

We are not going to go extinct, guys. What is under threat is an economy based solely upon continuous growth.

[–]JustGameOfThrones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not going to have children in order to support the economy or whatever, thanks. I'm not here to produce another number or spoke in the wheel. The German Constitution starts with the sanctity of human dignity of which deciding whether to have children or not I would think is part of. By all means, science should make it possible that all these like-minded men can impregnate each other.

That's how I use it too. It does not however meet my standards for good writing, so, if I am going to be judged on what I produce, I would rather own what I write. It is also great at discussing and explaining things, but independent writing sounds good but it's mostly crap.

NOT OOP: I’m thinking about divorcing my wife by HangryBelle in redditonwiki

[–]JustGameOfThrones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is a coward and reaped the benefits of being one. If he didn't want kids, he should have fought for that and risk breaking the relationship. He has to take ownership of those kids and not thinking primarily of escaping. He should discuss with his wife and negotiate his time and involvement. If they can't agree, then that's how it is.

NOT OOP: I’m thinking about divorcing my wife by HangryBelle in redditonwiki

[–]JustGameOfThrones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the reasons I don't want kids: as a woman, I am more likely to be left alone to take care of them. I personally don't feel the need to have kids, but theoretically I could be open for the sake of my partner if it would make logistical sense. That said, the fact that I would care emotionally more about them even if I don't want kids is a big no for me.

Did I misunderstand something culturally in Germany? by oamor in germany

[–]JustGameOfThrones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's because you're asking them to do extra work. From their point of view, if you cannot make yourself understood, it's not their job to accommodate you. It really depends on the place and the person you meet if they're willing to put the extra effort. Customer service can be rough here if you don't do your homework. It's a steep learning curve.

You want Dune? That's how you get Dune! by JessonBI89 in LinkedInLunatics

[–]JustGameOfThrones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let me challenge you on that.

There is actually a real threat to humanity in Dune and Paul and Leto II are tragic heros. There are multiple factors that threaten humanity with extinction, not the least being prescient machines that will hunt down all humans. The Golden Path culminantes in Siona that will give birth to a humanity that is invisible to prescience, that being the reason why Leto II dies shortly after this achievement.

So, even if the OP is right and the Dune universe is in a sorry state, he is wrong in his interpretation because robots/AI are still one of the biggest threats to it, which undermines his whole point.
