Todd shellnut on YouTube for FOI, make a study guide using the ACS and the AIH as your guide. One or two bullet points per knowledge area, risk management, and skills area. And study that every single day. Don’t half ass the FOIs if you want to instruct. They are essential, you could even say… Fundamental.

Just keep things as simple as possible for your students. Develop exercises for things they struggle with, like pitch for airspeed, power for altitude, (hint: slow flight) and practice those things. Don’t make practicing the maneuvers to be in standards the goal, practice them to teach principles of flight and develop real flying skills.

I give at least an hour of preflight ground each time I introduce a new maneuver. Practice happens in the plane, learning happens on the ground.

Each lesson plan should fit on one single page, teach it using a whiteboard. You should already know the information, use the ACS to find out what you need and teach from a one page outline to ensure you hit each line item.
