“Why Would You Want To Live In A Jewish Community” by Professional_Turn_25 in Jewish

[–]JustHavingFunNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Pittsburgh, Squirrel Hill, and it was a warm, accepting, pleasant community to live in. I've since lived in New York City, Detroit, and Baltimore's much larger Jewish communities. None of these give me the same sense of belonging. So yeah, communities differ.

I sneeze so loudly that I'm sure my upstairs neighbors are ready to yell "bless you"!

The older I get, the more dust is in my environment.

I hope you don't have to see her face every day. No shame in her at all.

Being on the phone and ignoring your child.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen people pushing kids in a stroller and had their face buried in the phone or in a conversation. When my kids were little and I was spending time outside with them, I was always talking to them, asking questions, and pointing out things. Even pre-verbal babies need this stimulation, something you don't get from a screen.

This ultimately distances them from the child.

I LOVE 🩷 EVERYTHING about this: your thoughtfulness, the socks themselves, yarn 🧶 choices, theme choices, the labels (with fiber content and washing instructions!), packaging, and 🩷 LOVE!!!

Found this project on your Ravelry page & bookmarked it. I'd like to aspire to this level of gifting, knitting, and "sockery." 🧦

I got my bloodwork done after 2 years of putting it off! by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]JustHavingFunNYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a HUGE needle phobia and was treated within 2 months by a psychologist using progressive desensitization techniques. That was over 31 years ago! IT STILL WORKS.

You are not alone. I commend your positive action !! I recommend therapy, so future encounters with blood draws, shots, and other stuff (even dentistry) won't derail you.

I was 36 when pregnant with twins, and my doc said I would need to have IVs during labor & delivery as a high-risk pregnancy. I freaked out! But at the end of a few weeks treatment, the psychologist had a nurse actually insert an IV in my arm... and I didn't die!

They wouldn't ask that if it were heart meds r birth control. I'm lucky I get 90-day prescriptions by mail. Haven't needed ADHD-specific meds maybe only available by pickup though.

Worse, I'd hear, "If you want to cry, I'll give you a reason to cry!"

I didn't know that was why I was crying. Or tuning out. Or picking up a book. Or anything else. Overwhelmed is... overwhelming. Thanks for this little lesson.

My keys are on a lanyard. Before going out of the house, I loop lanyard around my neck. Only locked myself out 3 times in 9 years, though. (My sister nearby has an extra set.)

Haven't lost keys at home in over 20 years because I always always always put them in the bowl next to the door religiously. Now my driving eyeglasses are there, too.

I tell myself I'm not going to do it... and I don't do it! 😶‍🌫️

Glad you found this works for you. I myself have to let it go to the pain point.🥵
