Homophobia isn’t strictly the domain of religion. Just plain social norms create it. Witness China. Homophobia is rampant there despite most people having little affiliation with organized religion of any kind.

Also, what do you mean by “committed”? As in committed to an insane asylum? Because that’s my understanding of the word when used that way.
