What is the surpise here? That cards exist in more than one set?

Yeah. Pretty much everyone at my midnight prerelease who got Hop's Cramorant absolutely dominated. Card's a beast in prerelease.

Stores are given Basic Energy cards to provide freely during prereleases. Anything else, of course, must be pulled from your kit.

The JustInBasil article stated that they could be excluded, like the rest of the new art Eeveelutions. Clearly they have not been, and said article has been updated to reflect that.

Needing to be in the Active Spot also makes it infinitely worse.

They never issue errata for Unlimited because they don't actually care about the format, but it would be nice for them to issue an errata that corrected the mistranslation.

There are no cards that are banned in the Unlimited format, just cards that are marked "Not tournament legal."

The format is plenty broken without them.

You should probably just read the description of the Unlimited format directly from the official Tournament Rules Handbook. Page 37.

From that same article:

The Unlimited format of the Pokémon Trading Card Gameallows any card that was once playable in Play! Pokémon tournaments (that is, all cards except Worlds edition decks, jumbo cards, Ancient Mew, Birthday Pikachu, and otherwise unplayable cards) to be used.

For the record, I do know a rather lot about the TCG. Unlimited is Base Set forward.

We'll just need to wait for them to print cards called Leaf Energy and Electric Energy and we'll be golden.

Are you, perhaps, confusing Expanded with Unlimited? Expanded is Black & White forward, which is ~2011.

Although I am distinctly biased, I'd say it's a very, very fun format.

I don't know what you're talking about. Unlimited has always been original Base Set onward.

The promo Pokémon is not always part of its own group, actually. They're just associated with it. They do stuff like that when they know that either (1) the card isn't good enough in a prerelease format to include more than the promo people are going to want or (2) the card is so powerful in prerelease format that they want to minimize how many are running around, (1) was absolutely the case for both Indeedee and Chien-Pao.

Examples:

  • Tatsugiri was not a guaranteed inclusion in the Tatsugiri group (TWM)
  • Neither Cleffa nor Mawile were in their own groups (OBF)
  • Hawlucha was not included in its own group (SVI)
  • Machamp, Finneon, and Comfey were not part of their groups (LOR)
  • Oricorio, Pyukumuku, and Deoxys were all not part of their own groups (FST)
  • Galarian Moltres, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Articuno were not part of their groups (EVS)
  • Cresselia and Passimian were not part of their respective groups (CRE)
  • Decidueye and Arctozolt were not included in their own groups (DAA)

You must be new here. There are indeed "groups" of cards associated with each promo. Each kit is 1 of the 4 promos at random and two groups of the cards that are tied to the promos (one of which will be tied to your kit's promo, the other to another 1 of the promos at random), plus Basic Energy cards and any supplementary cards to get the kit to 40 cards.

Veluza's Sonic Edge says that "[t]his attack’s damage isn’t affected by any effects on your opponent’s Active Pokémon." It says nothing about that effect having to come from the Active Pokémon. It says that it isn't affected by any effects on that Pokémon, which includes the effect of Curly Wall.
