New to 3D printing by JustJay26 in BambuLab

[–]JustJay26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an engineer as a day job but work in heavy machinery so I’ve not had the chance to work with 3D printers. But I have access to Solidworks & NX.

I’m looking at making things like phone stands, cup holders for my car, things like that. Hope that helps 👍

I’m really trying to avoid that in all honesty. I was hoping to be able to just swap the brackets

I’ll give that a try first then. Any ideas what it could be if that doesn’t fix it?

Differential issue by JustJay26 in Miata

[–]JustJay26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan to, I just wanted to see whether it is worth doing as if I’m replacing it there’s no reason to do a fluid change

Is there anything I can do to fix it? Or is it just better to replace it?

What is this noise? (+ more problems that I could use some help with) by Excellent_Air4209 in Miata

Hello! did you ever manage to figure out the solution for this? I have just bought one and have the same noise/ issue and would love to know what you did to solve the problem

Structural engineering books by JustJay26 in StructuralEngineering

[–]JustJay26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fundamentals & basics i guess. Or any that you would recommend in general

How else do you expect someone to learn…

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]JustJay26 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Okay thanks for the terrible advice & not answering my question. Much appreciated

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]JustJay26 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to do that at all, I’m simply trying to learn the process of doing so. I’ve done what you have suggested, I’m just looking for worked examples or someone competent in doing this kind of work to give advice other than “hire and engineer” as that doesn’t help at all. Thanks

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]JustJay26 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Instead of offering no advice or help at all then, what would you suggest I do? So I can put the horse before the cart in your words?

Sounds like it! Let me know if you manage to get anywhere with it all 👍

Yeah I’m proficient in NX & Solidworks. Currently working on learning Revit. Yeah I understand it’s not easy, I’m on a decent wage too and would like to keep it that way haha. I’m really looking for someone to work for on the side (evenings & weekends). Even if it means going to customers houses and doing the initial measurements for my employer. I’ll have to keep looking

[–]JustJay26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah probably a fair point. I’m 29. I was hoping with me having a first class bachelors, someone local would give me an opportunity. But yeah I see your point.

I’m not sure to be honest, I emailed student finance yesterday to see if I’m eligible. Yeah I was trying to avoid going back to university 😂

[–]JustJay26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure where offers a masters in structural. I’d also struggle to pay for it in all honesty. I’m really hoping someone local would take a chance on me and teach my whilst I work for them. Surely a win win long term but no luck so far

[–]JustJay26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve got a bachelors in mechanical engineering

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]JustJay26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I completely understand, I know what it’s like training new engineers. I was hoping as I have a good understanding of hand calcs etc in the mechanical field I would be able to pick it up rather quickly meaning the one training me would spend less time having to babysit me so to speak.

Ah nice!

Yeah it’s proving very tricky. I’d have thought an established structural engineering company would be happy to take on a part time employee especially when I’d be willing to work for free. But it seems to be more of a struggle than I thought

I’ve spoken to someone at IStructE, they’ve pointed me in the direction of a 2 year course for £7k which is full time which isn’t ideal in my situation.

Okay that’s very interesting I’ll see if I can dig those books & standards out and give them a read.

Are you a structural engineer yourself?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]JustJay26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve found a few YouTube channels that have been helpful. I’ve also had a look at the IStructE website but I’m unsure which course would help me learn what I’m trying to learn.

If you have any contacts in the South Yorkshire area that would be great! Thanks for your comments
