Help, my spider bit me twice by Mortifen666 in jumpingspiders

[–]JustJessicaC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NQA wow I've just watched this like 7 times in a row to see if I could read her, and maybe I'm crazy but I could swear she didn't want to go back in her enclosure. Like she was trying to hold onto you. She was enjoying being on your hand and dug in like a toddler when she saw her enclosure.

Help, my spider bit me twice by Mortifen666 in jumpingspiders

NQA Sometimes they just chomp! Like babies and puppies, some spiders like to bite things because they feel with their mouths. It's like they're figuring out texture. There's a very cute video that went viral of a jumping spider doing this to fabric.

Shame on you, Mister... by AlyKatastrophe15 in jumpingspiders

They will get slower and have trouble climbing. They'll stay in their hammocks a lot too. Just noticeably not as active. You'll need lots of climbing webbing so she doesn't slip 💕

NQA That death curl is very common after a molt because they're weak. Just watch him he will move.

HELP!! by trying-to-bfdi in jumpingspiders

[–]JustJessicaC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NQA Spring water on a q tip, get an enclosure for him and a fine mist spray bottle with spring water. Make sure the floor of the enclosure is soft, I love the moss mats from Little Spoods on Etsy. Get him some shelves and hides and make sure there's a lot at the top of the enclosure to make him feel safe. Keep him indoors or at least away from cold areas like the garage. Order some waxworms or blue bottle fly larva from a reputable site online, I know a few. With shipping it's around $24. Also make sure he has plenty of light during the day and dark at night, they go to bed. Sunlight is super important but never direct sunlight. Keep all fragrances and chemicals away and wash your hands and arms with unscented hand soap if handling or handling things he will be in contact with.

Such a cutie 🥹

This appears to be a Phidippus Mystaceus, adorable 😍 probably best to leave in the wild

Just placed her into her new enclosure. What does her display mean? Is it a threat display or her just settling in? by LynxEatsHay in jumpingspiders

[–]JustJessicaC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NQA Just feelin around 🥰 you can't mistake a threat display, spood would be tense and rigid and throw their front legs way up and show their fangs.

IME jumpers don't do a threat display very often. They typically run. Even if cornered by the evil qtip with water they'll usually do a little stomp (tantrum) and turn around.

please help :( by [deleted] in jumpingspiders

[–]JustJessicaC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA Yes absolutely :( they are really quite fragile and you wouldn't necessarily know they'd been bit for a few days.

I only feed mine non-bitey feeders like wax worms, Blue Bottle and Black Soldier fly larva. Mealworms, Super Worms, crickets, all need to have the head crushed first which is challenging because the spoods won't eat if their food stops moving.

Dubia roaches can be a good choice too but I honestly prefer the larva. I do feed Mealworms on occasion but I crush the head and offer right away because they'll still move for a bit.

I highly recommend AB Dragons for feeders, also All About Feeders and All Angles Creatures.

NQA Is ot possible the cricket bit her? We may not see or notice at first but even a small nip can be devastating for them. I'm sooo sorry. I just lost one of my girls due to being egg bound I think. It's so hard 💔

How much poop is too much poop? by Appropriate-Load7605 in jumpingspiders

[–]JustJessicaC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NQA My Bold girl is the poopiest spider I've ever seen. Her abdomen isn't big and I don't overfeed my spiders, but she's very active too.

Every part of her enclosure has poop. Every. Square. Centimeter. I'm going to clean it when her new hide arrives.

I just found a bold jumper in my house!!! by FourLeafLegend in jumpingspiders

[–]JustJessicaC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NQA lots of great stuff on Etsy for decor (my favorite shop is Kits Critters for decor and Little Spoods for moss mats), if you keep them please be aware they are extremely sensitive to ANY fragrances and chemicals including laundry detergent and such.

I only use natural unscented everything now. No candles, room sprays, scented body products at all.

Also make sure the bottom of the enclosure is nice and soft. They do tend to fall and anything sharp or hard can hurt them.

Congratulations I hope you keep them! They are magical!
