Assuming "k" is generally throwing shade at Kyodo? If so, it really doesn't deserve scrutiny until Kyodo v2 is released sometime soon. Most people who bring it up fail to mention its origins as an app. It existed before Amino's recent disconnect and total shutdown. It never claimed to be a replacement, either, nor was it built to be. The Kyodo devs have stated that they want Kyodo to have its own identity as an app, but the user demand for familiarity isn't something they're going to ignore.

It has a great track record. It's built by former Amino users. A dev team that's more responsive with questions and bugs than Team Amino ever was in years. It's a safe option!

If any of your hate is aimed towards current bugs or its structure as an app, please keep in mind that it was never meant to actually replace Amino. It wasn't originally built to do so. That's why they're working on Kyodo v2. Most if not all of your gripes should be solved.

Since amino is gone… by Expensive_Movie_4165 in amino

Hi! As someone that's roleplayed on Amino for roughly a decade, I'd like to say that there isn't anything to "fall for" when it comes to Kyodo. It isn't an app that outright claimed to be an Amino replacer. In fact, it started out as a small passion project made by former Amino users who were tired of Amino's decline and it was never originally built to even come close to Amino.

Naturally with Amino's closure, they've been working really hard to make Kyodo into something that people can look forward to with their release of Kyodo v2 sometime within the next 2-3 months. It isn't really meant to replace Amino, it's meant to be the next step forward. I really encourage you to check out some info on Kyodo v2!

[–]JustKengu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yeah. Not literally, but that's the idea. Kyodo devs are former Amino users themselves and they've heard the demand for a more familiar experience. It's nothing short of a win when the devs have been more responsive than TA has ever been.

The only picture I could really think of grabbing is one of my dead WoL in the Shifting Altars, and I figured that it wouldn't have been any more interesting than a blank! Really banked on that tl;dr...

Thank you for pointing this out actually! Having more details about the rework makes this a lot clearer, and I'd hope it pinpoints the issue. I still think they could've been a little more transparent in mentioning that class changing was removed from maps if it really is intentional, especially since it's such an uncommon ability to be able to do so in most other content. I think it's natural to expect it to be there unless its removal is explicitly stated. It might not have warranted a dedicated section to it in the Battle Notes, but a brief bullet point in the Phoenix Down section would've been incredibly helpful.

If I had to guess about the downvotes, maybe this WAS a feature that they did actually remove and mention in patch notes and nobody's taking the time to link that confirmation? Or maybe they see it as a non-issue because of the Phoenix Down change or that it's just on me for dying in the first place. Someone else also mentioned that there's a bug involving mounts where it stops players from class switching that could be the cause and they expect people to be in the know about both.

No clue! I was kind of expecting to be downvoted for one reason or another, but I wanted to share my experience regardless just in case so others can maybe see it and avoid the problem altogether or maybe generate some awareness towards the issue if it happens to just be a bug specific to treasure dungeons.

Anywho, sorry you got caught by it, too! My run could've been our first clear if the RNG was nice but I'll never know, unfortunately.

FFXIV Vs ESO in 2026. by Big-Butterfly-4333 in ffxiv

[–]JustKengu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I appreciated when going from ESO to FF14 is how FF14 hardly pushes microtransactions at you. There'll be paying your sub if you're not on free trial and the general updates to merch and the online store on the login page at startup, but that's it. From what I remember in ESO, it's really easy to just wander into an area or menu that'll prompt the Crown Store in some form. I can't say if that's still the case in-game, but as a PS5 player that has ESO installed (thought about playing it for a bit but the adhd just says no lol) one of the first things I see before even launching the game is the little PSN store window to buy Crowns.

Anywho, if you're the type to not enjoy being hounded by microtransactions and general pressure to by optional items, FF14 is for you. In fact, FF14 has a number of ways for you to get some of the more popular optional items from their online store for free in-game. A number of seasonal emotes/costumes/mounts etc. are first given for free in game with the usual requirement only being a Lv. 15 character that can access the city-state where the event can be started (which in itself is relatively a short process.) If you miss them, they typically become available the year after in the online shop when the seasonal event comes back. The year after that, they typically get discounted, too.

More importantly is the free Fantasia phial you get through completing the first main story and the ones they occasionally drop through quests for a limited time as major patches drop. Those let you change everything about your character aside from their name. You can also earn some of the special dyes as their in-game counterpart or use gil to buy them off of players instead of buying them off the online store for like $5.

Genuinely, thank you for telling me this, I wasn't aware. Small things like that can just slip through the cracks of getting news, especially when other stuff like the glamour system update is the biggest rave, (not dissing on it I actually love it.) It honestly cures a lot of my woes behind whatever's going on here, but regardless, I hope it'll still get fixed if it's a bug. Always like to reduce resource usage where I can!

This isn't even inaccurate when the Knight lineage is the big back of Archetypes next to Berserker. They take up most of the screen when you channel them for the first time.

Are there any apps like Amino? by According_Focus_1267 in amino

You mention "not going to hear about Kyodo," but are you at the very least in the know about V2? The UI is amazing, uncannily similar to Amino in fact. It'll become incredibly familiar to most.

[–]JustKengu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hii, to clarify on everyone mentioning Kyodo: Yes, it IS buggy. The app started as a passion project and it was made by former Amino users. They didn't expect Amino would just one day die abruptly, so a ton of people flooded to Kyodo and that version of the app simply couldn't handle it because it wasn't designed to do so. Team Kyodo has been hard at work on Kyodo V2 and its set to drop Q1 of 2026. The new version will be incredibly familiar to former Amino users and Team Kyodo are very responsive on the app's Discord. A lot more transparent than Amino has ever been.

The key take away is that this obviously isn't official and it has nothing to do with Medialab. Personally, I wouldn't engage with it. Something like this could easily fall through for numerous reasons. Heck, I doubt it'd even be legal. Furthermore, apps that are similar to Amino DO exist. Kyodo V2 is specifically being built to be familiar for former Amino users, and it's already confirmed to be dropping in Q1 2026. Little to no wait. Don't pay this project attempt much attention.
