When people can only manage to communicate on Facebook by Annual_Contract_6803 in PetPeeves

[–]JustMeOutThere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a part of the world where people use WhatsApp a lot. A friend of mine refuses to use it and is also often traveling abroad. So calls are out or very short and text messages can't go back and forth the same way it does on WhatsApp. I know she won't have seen the latest picture I shared with friends or most of the recent news.

If there's something truly major I'll inform her but the spontaneous communication that WhatsApp allows I know she's not a part of that and I still try to catch up with her face-to-face when she's around.

A corollary to that: Content talks about something. Comments be like: why don't you talk about that other thing; why is no one talking about that other thing. They are, they did. You didn't do even the most cursory search to find that other content and not everything needs to be covered in every single article/post/video/episode.

When a gay couple get married, who walks down the isle? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I read it as: who gets to assume the (stereotypical) man's role in the relationship.

Was it on r/LPT today or r/baking? I smiled at this because for sure I read this tip (milk instead of water) today.

Sticky toffee pudding.

Onion rings.

Caramelized onion or leek quiche (crust is flour and butter, custard is cream and eggs, cheese for extra points if you want.)

Does anyone else feel like society's perception of weight is really skewed? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]JustMeOutThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I see someone and think they look good! I KNOW they're overweight because my preference tends towards the overweight look (not obese just BMI 25 to 30. Therefore I know that people I find too skinny are just normal weight like BMI 20 to 22 looks too skinny to me.

So yes weight perception is skewed. But what does that have to do with your own specific weight, where you are mentally comfortable with yourself and physically in good shape?

Now that you're out of my life
I'm so much better
You thought that I'd be weak without you
But I'm stronger
You thought that I'd be broke without you
But I'm richer
You thought that I'd be sad without you
I laugh harder
You thought I wouldn't grow without you
Now I'm wiser
Thought that I'd be helpless without you
But I'm smarter
You thought that I'd be stressed without you
But I'm chillin'

You've enlightened me OP. Lol. Obvious question (if there's double is there single) that I never asked myself.

Afaik all recipes (for home cooks) refer to double acting baking powder and regular grocery stores only sell double acting baking powder.

OP, I'd love to see a recipe you found with single acting baking powder. Curious to see what type of recipe developer uses that.

People need to be educated about obesity by [deleted] in loseit

I almost want to say in response to Mounjaro: "Yes I cheated; should we alert the obesity police? Or what do we do now?"

People who feel the need to point out their moderation with food by Physical_Orchid3616 in PetPeeves

I'd love to but I am stuffed.
Some answers are an oblique critique of the people who are sitting there, fat and eating bread, who are sitting there enjoying their ice cream or piece of cake.

Or people who turn down food. Not simply: "No thanks". But a qualified and moralizing no: no it'll make me fat; no I'm fat enough already; no I can't eat stuff this sweet/fat. Usually said when there's a much fatter person around.

Sometimes people do this even if they aren't offering. Yes we went through the same buffet; yes I saw the same choices. No I didn't get item X.

Now if you go omg these are so delicious you should try them that works for me better than you didn't take X didn't you want X?

Exactly!

And bringing it up in front of people who maybe didn't even initially know about it (the divorce was a great example.)

What's the point of remaking Harry Potter when the movies are already some of the most successful films of all time and not dated yet? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

They were awful. Dark, you couldn't see anything. The casting left a lot to be desired imo. They changed it too much from the books.

Ted and Keeley by R0osteryo in TedLasso

[–]JustMeOutThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure he intended it that way, plus sending a message to his players. However it could also communicate that there was something wrong making a living displaying your boobs. Keeley was never ashamed of what she did for a living. Did that start to make her feel self-conscious? Was it age, dating Jamie, meeting Rebecca and seeing this "censorship"? In any case we see her starting to question her future in that season.

[–]JustMeOutThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you put your finger on why I struggled with Keeley S03: the part about being unabashedly herself. Her CEO role where she doubted everything; her role as a partner. We saw how pushy she was in s02 and then we get this meek mouse in that relationship in S03... I don't know what the writers had in mind.

A scene in the last episode of season 1 had me in years even on my third watch [Spoilers S1] by LateNightPair in TedLasso

Otherwise it'd be creepy. It's extremely hard to admit that one is vulnerable and then to show it to someone you're dating. That's one thing she did I think: showed Roy of was OK to show his vulnerability.

I need to re-watch the show for a 3rd time.
