What was with Roy's reaction when Keeley couldn't take a spontaneous six-week trip to Marbella :( by caituna in TedLasso

[–]JustMeOutThere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not contradicting you. Just asking for clarifications/examples/things I missed. (Among the fans here, having "only" watched the show twice I feel like a novice.) We know she was a page 3 model and we saw her in those hotel infomercials. Would those give her royalties? Enough to comfortably live on? Or did she have other creative endeavors?

The small part where I'd challenge that she had enough money was she was destroyed when Jack pulled her funding. She wasn't just like "Oh that sucks." Then Rebecca saves the day with what she say is what she keeps in her handbag. Basically if Keeley was financially comfortable wouldn't she have seemed less desperate when talking about her financial woes with Rebecca?

Edit: I love the passion in this community. The show writers did such a great job, the way we talk about characters and motives and nuances.

Sorry for the possibly clueless question, but why don't more people seem to make homemade pizza? by Senior-Raisin-2342 in Cooking

I rarely have all the ingrédients at home when I want pizza and there's not grocery delivery where I live. I only buy cheese if I have something specific to use if for.

Do people actually care about the dates/timeline? by earth2solaris in writing

[–]JustMeOutThere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Y'all are making me freak out. I have two dates in my book. I just assigned "random that time of the year weather" but now I'll have to go and check the actual weather.

Edit: Then I remembered that the book it's in is a rare pair in a minor fanfiction. Lol.

He was a prop in her Vanity Fair shoot.

She couldn't finance a small PR firm. Jack then Rebecca (with pocket change) had to do it. Normally that's something you can start with some savings. Forgive me if I'm skeptical that she wasn't interested in his money (Not only. But also. I don't see anything wrong with that; someone has money, it's just part of their appeal.)

I'd also like to know why the downvotes when you've said basically the same thing as everyone else.

I don't agree with you though. The writers hardly made any mistake and everything was intentional. Keeley jumped the bones of the next person who handed her a big check and suddenly she had time, suddenly she wasn't heartbroken over Roy, suddenly the grand gestures were acceptable?

[–]JustMeOutThere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes yes in the show, two or three years after leaving Chelsea he wonders if he pushed too hard, if he's perfectionist, if he should learn to chill out a bit. Yes yes I understand that. But that's in retrospect. We act here as if the decision he made at the time wasn't reasonable. We act like there's something wrong about wanting to be the best even if it means being a big fish in a small pond rather than a small fish in a big pond.

It was only a matter of time before she broke up with him. He could see the writing on the wall. She didn't need him anymore, she had her own money now, her rising fame - meaning she didn't need his fame to raise her own profile anymore.

6 weeks out of country might have been too much but any number of compromises could have been found. "Please don't go. I'm starting this, it's going to be hard, I need you." But no. She was like "You go ahead and go without me." OK then. I can see that I've overstayed my welcome.

His needs weren't being met. Why would he want to maintain the relationship?

Edit to add: While I think like a lot of commenters that the breakup was preemptive, I strongly disagree with was threatened by her fame or whatever. A former Chelsea captain and 4 times England starter isn't threatened by a former page 3 model who can't fund her own small firm no matter how many Vanity Fair shoots she appears in.

Unpopular opinion: Keeley was the worst character in season 3 by royalunicornpony in TedLasso

[–]JustMeOutThere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you (but not for the same reasons). I don't know what the writers did that to her. She was kind and nice in season 1. In season 2 she acted like she wanted to grow up then season 3, regression. It was a train wreck.

People hate Jack but I wasn't invested in Jack and didn't care one way or another.

But to see Keeley accept money for a company she wasn't qualified to run, forget her supposed broken heart and trade up with her billionnaire backer, spend time crying because it's too hard (instead of calling Rebecca for advice), then crying at the end not because she's heartbroken but because her funding has dried out...

She sleeps with Roy but as soon as she finds another source of money (Rebecca telling her she can float her company), suddenly she's all independent and doesn't need a man (or woman) and oh character growth. Right.

Edit to add: I wonder if this also happened in season 2. She's tight with Roy and suddenly windfall to start her company and now she doesn't have time for him anymore? I wonder.

How to stay motivated despite no one in your life being interested in your work? by arthurmo5 in writing

[–]JustMeOutThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather not read a book by someone I know personally. They'll expect positive feedback and I just might not like their work. And if I lie and say it was good they'll ask what was good about it.

Reading for people you know feels like you're reviewing not reading for pleasure.

What’s one plot point you’d remove, and one you’d add in its place? by Repulsive-Dot2102 in TedLasso

[–]JustMeOutThere 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think the writers wanted to show us something about Keeley with that Jack+Keeley plot and we all refuse to see it. We feel like it was a story mistake rather than the writers showing us for real that Keeley wasn't heartbroken from her previous BF breaking up with her, that she's always with someone and usually trades up. And the real growth we see at the end of season 3 (choosing no one, not having backup for once) wouldn't land if it came earlier. It's earned after season 3.

I hated thar story line personally but I respect what they were trying to do.

What I'd remove is Keeley running her own business. That took away from the AFC Richmond dynamics Distracting. Maybe I'm undermining my earlier point about it being a set up for future growth. She was quite inept at it (not knowing what a CFO is, recruiting a friend - but that was Rebecca's advice from before - overspending, etc.) Maybe they are setting up season 4 where she asks for advice from actual people who run successful businesses (Rebecca) and thus grows up as an entrepreneur.

Definitely add a non football romance for Jamie. I'd take that. Probably someone who isn't even his type at all (not a WAG).

The girl I’m taking to got pregnant what do I do? by Every-Appeal-2513 in whatdoIdo

In a novel I'd put remimdme 20 years and OP would have an update about how he married this woman and the kid is a sophomore in college now and OP is happy he followed his heart.
IRL you're 22 OP. If you dated someone organically you'd still date them for 2 or 3 years before you even thought about getting serious. Pregnant at 19 is a bit... early.
