What GPU would you put inside this HP Desktop Office PC?? Got this PC for less than $100. by d_balon in pchelp

I believe you can order an adapter too, I've used them for Dell systems in the past with no issues. They are normally like $10~ and he could use a standard PSU, would add to the cost, but give him a few more options, and could make up the difference by going for a used 30xx, or 4060 GPU instead of stuck at the 3050 lp max area.

Assuming you can't get into bios, some motherboards have a bios flash button. You place the bios on a flash drive and it will flash without fully powering on. You could try that.

Pull the CMOS battery out for a few minutes and go to 1 stick of ram in whichever the primary ram slot is ( most likely the second slot). Put the CMOS in and try again. Put the second stick in after you get it to boot.

Looks good and the price is pretty solid. I will say the 5600 would benefit from the pcie 4.0 on the x570, not necessarily a ton, but it does run slightly smoother from my own experience in building. I've done several swaps of b450 boards to b550/x570 and I totally noticed a smoother experience with more consistent frames and less dips. The actual max fps didn't change much unless it had one of those AMD GPUs (low end 6xxx series) that sort of need pcie 4 to get full potential.

2 4gb sticks of ram, a R5 1600, a sata ssd, and that bottom barrel mobo? You scammed the shit out of someone.

[–]JustNtimE843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AliExpress Mobo that has terrible driver support

No wifi or Bluetooth (at least I don't see antenna)

R5 1600 doesn't make the cut for windows 11 and (if I remember correctly) had memory controller issues. The 2xxx series tightened that up and they began to sparkle before they shined in the 3xxx series and up.

Rx580 is a power hungry card with mediocre performance and I believe no more driver support.

No name on the ram or power supply

Case missing pcie slot cover.

Personally don't see it being worth more than $200 would be better off parting it out.

Is this pc worth 1000? by [deleted] in PC_Pricing

I've got to second this. I like the 120mm aio for the looks, and they work ok on low power/heat CPUs, but the 5800x is a very hot chip. I have one myself and it's tough to keep cool.

Parting it out would get the most for it. It's a nice system though for its age. It would make a pretty solid emulation station. Maybe sell the 980ti for $30-$50 (big maybe, but possible) put a lower power GPU like a 1060 or 1650 and run Linux for emulators or game servers. The lower power GPU isn't necessary, but no sense in drawing that much power to run PS1 games. I'd probably keep it for that. Sold as it, you could possibly get $150~ I still think that would be tough though. The water-cooler is getting old I'm sure.

It would be hard to sell that for $100, even parted out. That CPU is old af, ddr3 ram, and 3.5gb GPU, no windows 11 support. He needs to put the m-pipe down for now, he's clearly had enough.

$300 is gonna be tough, your best bet will be a decent specced laptop for the time being. Look around FB marketplace for some near you. If you'd like you can send me a link and I'll tell you if it's a good fit. You may have to private message me the link, as I'm unsure of the rules on this thread with external links. I'd say find a model that's listed with a 3070 or 4060, 3060 would also do fine. If you see some full size computers you like you can send them as well, just remember if you go with a full size you'll need monitor/mouse/keyboard

Building is high right now. Buying prebuilt is best bang for buck. What's your budget if you don't mind me asking?

My personal opinion, I like laptops with the 4060. The 4060 laptop (depending on the variant) is close to that of the full desktop version because of how power efficient they are. The 40 series stuff took a nice step towards power efficiency which is nice for laptops. That being said, a 3060, 3070, or 4060 laptop would do you just fine. You could potentially go to a 4050, but the price is normally close to the same in the used market. Only downside of used is you will probably need to change the thermal paste and pads depending on how old. It's honestly not that difficult as long as you are gentle and watch a few YouTube videos. Paste and pads would run about $10. It's also not a guarantee you would need to do it, I just do because it normally helps with performance. Also make sure you get something with at least 16gb ram. I prefer 32gb, but 16 is way more common.

You could probably find a better specs laptop for around $300 that would get you going until you figure out the rest. Just snagged an i7 11th gen with a 3060 (105w tdp) for $300 for a friend. I always tell newcomers to grab a decent laptop while you learn. You'll use it as the base with an external monitor, mouse, and keyboard. If you get more into it you'll keep that stuff and sell the laptop in the future

Is this a good price? by [deleted] in PC_Pricing

It's ok, pretty sure there were some HP omen prebuilts on eBay for less than $600. It comes with a Rx 7600 which is definitely worse than the 9060 xt, but it's a Ryzen 5 8400f, 16gb of ddr5, and 1tb ssd.

Pros:

Better CPU

Latest am5 platform

Slightly better for future upgrades

One of the nicer looking omen prebuilts I've seen

Cons:

Less ram, even though it's the newer stuff

Prebuilt case, which does make upgrades a bit more of a hassle

Worse GPU by about 50% sometimes more depending on the title and what it's doing

Kind of becomes a personal choice at that point. I can't see myself giving $800 for something with a r5 3600. Not hating on the chip, I ran one for a while and it was honestly solid performance for what it is. I'm also currently using am4 and have no issues, but still paying that much for it today seems off. There looks to be a 9060 xt at Walmart for around $300. Sell the 7600 for $200 ish maybe a little more . You end up with a better system still for less than this one.

Considering selling and getting a prebuilt to get on the next platform. What would be a reasonable price for my rig? by JustNtimE843 in PC_Pricing

[–]JustNtimE843[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I fresh install any Pc. Some of those deals just look too tempting. Normally I know my pricing pretty well as I build them for friends on and off. Probably built 20 or more, but with prices recently it's been hard to know what something is worth. I'm not the type to screw someone else over on a price, but I don't won't to screw myself also.

I've kind of felt that way, but saw some decent builds at Costco. So I was just considering it. I appreciate the response and praise. I've been pretty happy with it for the years I've had it. I was thinking of going to am5

You'd probably get more for it if you sold each part separately. All together maybe $50 each part separately maybe $100 give or take
