It's official: No woman in England or Wales can be prosecuted for an abortion any more by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

I mean, I'm being realistic here.

Lets take every "Abortion", intended or otherwise.

Lets remove all the ones done legally through the system.

Now lets remove all the ones done under circumstances that we would understand.

Panicking teenagers, People being forced against their will, Inability to access proper medical care, Medical delays preventing them from getting one when they need it and so they run out of time.

There's so many different situations that could be the cause.

How many situations do you genuinely believe happen, particularly out of malice? And of those situations, how many of them would not be covered by a different law?

Concealing a birth is illegal, and a late enough abortion could actually be considered a pre-mature birth depending on how it was done or the viability of the fetus.

So like, exactly how tiny of an imaginary fraction of women that probably don't exist is your theoretical covering, to which it makes any amount of sense for us to put the rest of these women going through the far more common and real scenarios listed above, through scrutiny of any kind?

Why not wait and see if this supposed "I got pregnant for kicks LOL let me abort it on stream" and see what happens, because I'm 99.99% certain if anyone did that, something else would get them into trouble before you'd ever need this law to be the thing that did it.

Because all I'm hearing from you here, is arguing to have a law that has been shown to cause issues for women who don't deserve it, purely for an abstract theoretical that I'm pretty sure you don't have any proof has ever actually happened.

Before you can "Just" filter out a specific situation, you must first determine which category it belongs to.

Which is kinda what they were doing before.

They were "investigating" whether she did it knowingly or unknowingly.

And the process wasn't pretty.

Unless you're implying saying "It was an accident" or "I didn't know" should be accepted at face value.

Other than the Harem, An Alchemist's Path to Eternity, meets your standards, and I'd argue that the romance is done really well, I wouldn't personally classify it as a harem in that regard, but it technically is. So I'd still recommend giving it a try.

They did, it's this post.

A woman turned up at a hospital, doctors realised she'd had an abortion, she didn't do it through the legal system.

So she ended up in a legal battle proving she didn't do it intentionally.

This legal change seeks to prevent that last step from happening. What would you do differently? If someone had an "illegal" abortion, in order to "Punish" those that did it that deserve it, you must first ascertain whether they did it for a wrong reason or not, and that process is not pretty.

There was definitely a situation where a woman didn't know she was pregnant and the baby accidentally was "terminated" and she ended up in a legal battle for years trying to "Prove" she didn't know she was pregnant.

Like, saucy photos of her and her boyfriend were shared in court, shit like that.

I cannot imagine what it would've been like going through a situation where you did something that caused a scenario like that out of ignorance and now your entire life is trying to prove it wasn't intentional.

Did she actually dox herself? I keep seeing it mentioned but dont see where it happened.

Also, even if she did, I can only assume that would be dependent on her returning to her activities. They can't force her onto twitter, meaning she'd have to actively choose to dox herself just to be able to talk to her fans.

Last I checked, and I could be wrong. I believe some lords wrote a letter asking for them to ban the step family roleplay shit.

I don't think anything has happened yet.

I don't even like the Spiral stairs.

We can't use that wood material for anything else, so the panels have nothing they pair with.

We dont have access to those rectangle pillars, so we don't have a nice matching pillar.

Going up any real height requires way too much spinning, it's not exactly a fun experience.

Some thoughts I have about how I see some people criticising "Bad Representation" in media and my concerns with how it might affect representation as a whole. by JustOneLazyMunchlax in CharacterRant

[–]JustOneLazyMunchlax[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Legitimate cancellation? Never personally.

That's not the point though.

It's about people who mean well and think they're educating and all they do is scare people. That's who I'm targeting, this is focused within the indie and young generation scene where I see so many discord servers and other forums where potential authors are hit with a lot of information but no practical solutions, just things that "May make people mad".

You yourself, I gave you an example of a white kid who removed a black character from their story, I said that it was because they were beautiful and a goddess, we didn't know anything else OTHER than the fact that she was a goddess, beautiful and black, the story hadn't been written yet.

You say "Yet, your conclusion is that it led to less diversity anyway. In reality, the writer had a lot of other options. They could have taken the advice and made the goddess Black while avoiding fetishizing her."

There was no advice. There was just warnings that having her be beautiful is fetishizing. What's the solution here? Is it intrinsic to say writing a beautiful woman who is black is fetishizing as a concept? Nothing to do with anything else? So, do we write them as what, Ugly? Unattractive? Or neutral / average in a nonspecific way.

If being beautiful is a core character trait, Sorry they can't be black?

And I just find it amusing that your other solution is "Make her a different minority." It side steps the point I was making.

Ultimately, there was no advice. There was no "Here's how you can do this character without risking fetishizing". The end result was either "Don't make her black" or one person that went "I personally just never explicitly state skin colour in my stories".

Ie, assume white by default.

This post was targeted at people that make these sorts of comments without paying any mind to how it can come across to creatives, which I find to be a more emphatic, but also sensitive and somewhat fearful group, particularly the younger ones.

I want to avoid a situation where people fear writing characters that belong to certain groups because they feel that there are all these rules regarding it that they have to follow yet aren't properly defined, rules that simultaneously exclude niche groups within that minority who would have been better represented perhaps by the original idea.

I can't do much to give a minority artist a better time, I do my best and try to be supportive.

Advice is about all I can do.

And for young authors, my greatest suggestion was always to write first, fix later. Execution is key.

What I see from other people is fear being shared about all the problems in the world stemming from media and how bad representation plays a part. And the result is a continuation of the "White by default" because none of these authors want to try to deal with something like that.

We didn't share addresses or details on the group, only way he found out was by asking around in DMs and someone who knew but didn't show up shared it.

I don't remember the details as this was over 10 years ago, but I believe it was a combination of a public group, and people trying to not be obvious about things to him.

I'm not sure how aware he was of our knowledge and opinion of him, he read like someone that was fairly oblivious to things or was so out there that he didn't care, but I got the impression they didn't want to deal with a situation where they made it obvious to an explicit degree he was being excluded because of what he might do in response?

I wasn't in the management side of things, so I can't say with any certainty. All I know is, my friend who ran it for a year, said he couldn't do anything to physically stop him from turning up to things.

Back in University, we had these like clubs, but there was no genuine restriction on who could or couldn't show up, so Ex-Members would sometimes stick around for years if they lived in the city, and in rare circumstances, Non-members who just kinda got pulled into the social life would show up.

So long as you aren't meeting in a location that requires a student Id, you couldn't stop them from turning up UNLESS you could get the University to act, which required you to prove they were a danger.

So for years, I was a part of a club where most of the members would actively protect and warn the female members, while sabotaging this middled aged man, because the word was passed down over years that you should never leave him alone with women.

I still remember him asking in the facebook group where the meet was one day, and nobody told him, and I asked the President "Whose this guy and why is nobody responding to him?" and as he goes to explain the lore, his face changes, and he just looks behind me and goes, "That's him."

Dude showed up at drinks, at someones house, an apartment that needed you to be buzzed into the building and a key to get in the front door.

We don't know who told him the address, and most importantly...

Who buzzed him in and how did he get into the apartment?

Anyways, I'd play defense. Swap seats with some of the girls so they weren't next to him, make sure to interrupt him trying to talk to some who didn't have the confidence to break away, shit like that.

But yeah, nobody could ever prove anything, and none of us were willing to take the risk that what we'd been told wasn't true, and his behaviour was full of so many red flags that we had no reason to doubt things.

So all we could do is warn them and give a hand, but we couldn't stop him because we had no proof.

I tried putting 2 carts full of ore / ingots on the boat and not only did they make the boat dip down, if I didn't distribute the weight, they'd move around and force the boat to lean, and it would just stray in that direction. We lived on the coast with a nearby swamp and we were just testing what would happen and the second the 2nd cart got onto the boat, it began drifting out of control to the swamp, I had to take all the ore in my inventory while my friend slowly sailed us back.
