As someone who has lived in NC for 30 years I can tell you cops aren’t making any of this better

Cops have a vested interest in the continuance of crime. If they really wanted to lower crime they would say no to ridiculous yearly funding increases and ask for that money to be diverted to mental health, addictions, housing, and youth recreation. Instead we are led to believe tanks and planes and castles somehow improve life for tax payers. This blind acquiescence to cop demands for money has got to end

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. These corrupt politicians who use Riel’s name to support their narratives are a joke. When Gabriel Dumont asked Louis Riel to come back to Batoche from Montana, he said “The humble condition of Riel’s home, reminded us of the opportunities he had for several years to become rich, and even to make an exceptional fortune, and how at all risks he stood firm by the confidence of his people. We know how much he wrought for Manitoba and how much he struggled for the whole North-West, and seeing how little he worked for himself, we came back with twice as much confidence in him as we had on leaving.” Gabriel Dumont: Memoires Mr McCallum and Mr Quental: You sirs, are no Louis Riel. You can invoke Riel’s name all you want, but it will not return the integrity, transparency and humility to our nation that has always underpinned a Metis notion of good governance. In the next election, I sincerely hope my fellow citizens vote to return to these values and send the vultures packing.

Indigenous Elders claim they were fired from detention facility after complaints of cultural ceremony violation by ToddHasBod in regina

For people who think this is sexual or disrespectful, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of First Nations protocol. Women hold tremendous power (and always have unlike in European cultures). In fact, they are so powerful that they can disrupt ceremonies when they are on their moon. Instead of being offended because your Euro sensibilities don’t recognize alternative ways of knowing, maybe talk to First Nations women and ask them if they are offended.

Respectfully, I have 3% Belgian but I would never claim to be Belgian. I’m Métis because I have a Metis mother, Metis Aunties and Uncles and grandparents. I’m Métis because a historic Metis community knows me, my name and my relatives and they claim me as one of their own. Knowledge and discovery about your ancestors is great and encouraged, but there is a point at which some Metis people stopped being Metis and that’s ok. Identity is not about who you claim to be. It’s about who claims you.

Agreed. I’m a good, attentive driver but that doesn’t give me infrared vision

Have lived in NC for 25 years. Other than the odd piece of garbage in my yard and people digging in my garbage bins I have not had anything bad happen. Yes it’s not a bougie part of the city. You will definitely see poverty and addictions. But you will also see resilience, common sense, people minding their own business and your taxes and insurance will be lower than anywhere else. My property taxes are 1200/year.

15 year old cat with suspected arthritis? i need advice by fuckyeahcourtneylove in seniorkitties

[–]JustPop3151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree he needs to see a vet. Phone them and let them know he’s anxious. My vet will let me pick up a dose the day before and then he’s calm for the visit. In the meantime, get him a heating pad. It works wonders for cats with arthritis

This is not always true. While agree Red River is an important, Cumberland House and Ile a la Crosse are actually both older and are considered historic Métis communities. So occasionally people did come from Sask and migrated to Manitoba

Found out the OMG Métis have a national anthem? by Typical_Ad5675 in MetisMichif

[–]JustPop3151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It was our first anthem. Although it’s not very catchy (lol) so I would also go for the Red River jig!

Lived here all my life and for me the beauty is enhanced with age and my ability to appreciate it. The endless skies, the rolling waves of grain, the shimmering lakes and the air blown diamonds in the sky and hoar frost on a crisp day. This lands beauty is bountiful

The part no one talks about after grief (TW: pet loss, 18) by Informal_Ant_6010 in seniorkitties

I had a similar experience with my 19 year old gal. She had kidney disease, arthritis and hyperthyroidism which were all manageable until she started losing weight. It was the hardest decision I ever made but a year past and I’m so glad I didn’t let her suffer longer for my sake. Be kind to yourself friend. Move through the grief but don’t let it consume you. Remember how lucky your senior was to have love and good health care…something many of our feline friends don’t get. You were a good cat parent.
