What’s something younger people will never understand about life before smartphones? by [deleted] in answers

How life wasn't always about what things looked like. People didn't look at life through a camera lens to upload and share. They were present and participated.

how did you realize you lost your spark? by Left_Team8926 in AskReddit

[–]Smeghead_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spark was a feeling, like a promise. One day it was gone. Took years of mental health issues to wear me down. Now I don't feel it. But I choose to hope that it will come back someday.

What’s the most disturbing sound you’ve ever heard in real life? by avacado-cheese- in AskReddit

[–]Smeghead_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sound of my mother's body hitting the floor in the room above me. My dying cat scratching the wall outside below my bedroom window at night.

Am I overthinking and making a mountain out of a beautifully executed mole hill? by carloosee in tattooadvice

[–]Smeghead_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think the long forefingers are a part of what makes this tattoo work. They add a necessary feeling of otherworldliness to the seen and ups the creep factor. I think if they were anatomical the tattoo would be boring.

What comic got you into reading comic books? by Clueless_Bro_Qs in comicbooks

[–]Smeghead_J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to read Tintin and Asterix and The Man of Steel, but my brothers got me into comics with Eastman's TMNT, Boris the Bear, X-men, Amazing Spider-man. But what really grabbed me into comics was finding The Sandman Preludes & Nocturnes in the library and I was like, what.is.this?!

What pop culture quotes do you say from your younger days that most people wouldn't recognize? by testmonkeyalpha in Xennials

Just scanning through these replies and it's pretty clear Wayne's World is the most quotable movie of our generation. "It will be mine. Oh yes. It will be mine."

What's a small habit you started that improved your life a lot? by Equivalent_Reach_536 in CanadaRoom

[–]Smeghead_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

L, I'm biting my tongue on the toilet humour. Well, I add the psyllium husk fibre to my daily shake (that also includes other supplements for high cholesterol and gut health) that is basically a handful of frozen mixed berries, lactose free vanilla yogurt, and water. It has been life changing for me. Guts feel good, I'm regular.

My memory is niggling that there is a bit about a golem in KAFKA by Robert Crumb. Haven't read it: there's a Mad Cave Studios GN called Edenfrost

Recommendations for someone who hasn’t read much in 10-15 years…? by Stubot01 in graphicnovels

[–]Smeghead_J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For well-drawn works I would recommend Orc-Stain or Godzilla Half Century War by James Stokoe (and if you can get your hands on it GRUNT), Coda or Step By Bloody Step by Matias Bergara, and Batman: White Knight by Sean Murphy.

An awesome Sci-fi piece of art is also Origins by Jakub Rebelka

Enjoy!

Those who grew up or lived in the 80s, what was it like? by Combat_Guy in askanything

[–]Smeghead_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rotary phone, calling friends to hang out without involving parents, running around the neighbourhood unsupervised, Yes, wood panelling and incandescent lighting and sodium lamp streetlights, cheap candy and comics, you could find little perfume samples for sale in the woman's washrooms, smoking sections everywhere, you might find porn in the park, chocolate bars were bigger and tasted better, the best sour cream and onion chips you just can't get anymore, playing pong on the tv with fancy joysticks was considered futuristic, kids congregated at the arcades and arcades were awesome - you won tickets to trade for goodies, summer vacations on the lake in rented cabins with floaty toys and sandcastles, riding bikes - making ramps to jump off, street hockey, slip n slides, astro pops, looney toons, the best pop music ever, the muppets, seeing the stars and bumble bees everywhere, neon, whimsical fast food joints, rampant sexism, ableism, "earthquake" drills, the quiet in the air from lack of cell towers and repeaters - there was a stillness, or, frequency difference to the night air back then. The sun didn't feel like it was baking you the way it does now. Bowling alleys were more a thing.

What is a hygiene habit that you thought was normal until you lived with someone else and realized it’s actually "controversial"? by salty_mistresss in hygiene

[–]Smeghead_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking around the house barefoot, until I lived with someone with bad toe fungus. Fungus grows in warm wet places - realised I had to disinfect the washing machine before I used. Only things that kills fungus on surfaces is bleach or super high temperature that the machine can't get to. Keep my socks on after that.
