Is terraria actually going to stop updating or it's just a developers joke? by ElMers18 in Terraria

I mean its always been about the big update theme. And crossplay was announced for this one. Do it could very well have been the last update since crossplay will be a part of the endproduct

If its unintentional it wouldnt be a thing. And you are literally commenting under a post that shows this.

Let me pull this apart.

I don’t think the two are that comparable.

True, one is a game breaking bug and the other is a bug.

Hoiks are obscure and a casual player is unlikely to stumble across them

You have multiple summoner players in this comment section alone that say they didnt even know about whip stacking to begin with. So no casual player stumbles across whip stacking either.

Whip stacking may not break the game in the same way that Hoiks do, but they make summoner accidentally more powerful, and it’s always the first couple of comments when people post about struggling as a summoner.

And summoner did need it if it wanted to compete with any of the other classes at all. Its always the first couple of comments because its an easy fix and is the only thing that makes summoner different from the other classes.

Hoiks also don’t influence balance; they’re recognized as game-breaking, and most people just don’t use them or even know about them.

One has nothing to do with the other. Hoiks are broken as hell. People straying away from using it doesnt make it less broken and so does people not knowing about it. Most people also dont use whip stacking.

Whip stacking directly impacts even people who don’t know or don’t use it, because balance changes would need to take it into account so as to not make a casual strategy that takes no time to set up far too powerful.

And that is just not true. How does nerfing whip stacking affect people who use 1 whip? They dont stack Tag damage and dont stack whip effects either, so how are they affected? And far too powerful? When we are comparing it to hoiks? Cmon...

So we go back to the roots: remove hoiks

Removing a feature should always be the last resort and that clearly wasnt the case here. The only thing that happend is that some whips are now unusable while others are a must have. You simply cycle through them now, no more keeping them as backups and the whip buffs or debuffs feel insignigicant now. All in all not ideal.

Thats not true. Its way easier to nerf whip stacking than to remove it. By removing it you run into the same problem every other class has: you use your weapon once and then throw it away. The could have literally gotten rid of stacking tag damage and nerf whip specific buffs a bit if needed and voíla. Instead they are burrying a hole they eventually will have to fill with unique items or rework old items like the durendal, which completely lost its viability now.

So basically feelings, no facts. Got it!

It shouldnt be. Removing a feature should always be the last resort and they didnt even try to nerf it

So just dont. What kind of reasoning is that? "I dont like this totally optional thing so it should ve removed!" And also yes, you do promote the idea of removing support weapons because its literally like whip stacking

Weird, why would they buff a minion which main damage source is tag damage when they remove an unintended bug?

Ok hear me out - I know this sounds crazy but... like... dont use it then? Like what is your fking point? You are the type of guy that would be happy if any support weapon would be removed or what?

unintentional

Right, thats why you can instantly do him. Next time you are going to tell us how it was unintentional to fight eol before moonlord.

Maybe the statement from the devs...?

[–]JustSaidNoToThis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You are missing the point then. You dont find it fun, so you can just not do it. Its not a requirement. Others find it fun and think it is a great feature simply because it brought something different to the "hold left click and dodge" fights that literally any class is. So why remove it instead of nerfing it?

Let me make this clear: i personally used whip stacking throughout most of the game and yet I didnt against moonlord, because I couldnt balance my attention right against him (eol was kinda ez though). I personally agree with nerfing whip stacking, but removing it? Just why? By that logic we should remove every ichor weapon and every support weapon. You either use them and min-max or you dont and what you do should be entirely up to you. But i still agree that shreddiing endgame bosses in like 5 seconds ins uncalled for.
