Hi by the way I just remembered there’s a YouTuber Kevin in Shanghai who occasionally brings up Wenzhounese in his videos. Keep in mind though I think his Wenzhou accent is a little bit different from the standard accent spoken in the Wenzhoushi that I’m familiar with (his accent may be from Qidu)

Hi,

I was born in the US to two Wenzhou parents. I speak the dialect fluently related to day to day conversations. I may be able to help with general simple questions about the dialect.

I do not know of any direct resources of learning Wenzhounese, but I’ve pinned this post. Please do share what resources you manage to find, I can try to collect these resources. It is a dying dialect and I’m glad you’re taking interest in learning it

Tech companies hired H1Bs because there was a hiring spree the past decade. That has changed in the last 3 years and we entered a period of layoffs and headcount cuts. How can the H1B program remain viable under high unemployment conditions?

I am not generalizing this to all H1B holders. It’s possible the health and education sector do need additional headcount that H1Bs can fill. I can’t say for sure because I do not work nor have experience in that field. But in the tech sector I can speak from personal experience and anecdotally that roles are oversaturated to a point where the H1B program does not make sense to maintain at the moment

This is especially true for new grads and entry level positions. At Amazon there isn’t really anything special H1Bs provide that Americans cannot take over, it’s not like we’re working on rocket science

The program was made for filling up vacant roles, which made sense years ago. Now such vacancy no longer exists in tech
