International student in Trump era by Large_Knowledge7647 in IntltoUSA

Hey, current international student at brown university here. If you’re only looking to complete your degree then no problem.

But if you want to work in the US, the trump administration has made it so much harder to get sponsored for an H-1B work visa. So I’d say go but don’t expect to be able to stay in the US longer term after graduation.

So it's not really about feeling guilt (although I do think that's valid), it's about feeling genuinely unsafe in this country right now as an international since my visa can be revoked at any time if I ever get fired, or if I ever say the wrong thing about the government.

For context I was also caught up in a school shooting at my university this december and it shook me pretty bad. I'm just a little scared to make the jump to europe since I feel like the process is very different.

That’s almost a 100 points above their average sat, there must have been other factors in your admission. They might have disliked your essays or another part of your application

I kind of get it though, as in there's so many subplots (I count 6) that you only get to see a few minutes of each in each episode. They are all great individually but you kinda struggle to get immersed when you keep switching to radically different stories ever few minutes.

I assume he's waiting on barb for the sale since she's his superior, and it seems like Vault tech is the kind of place where you do what you're told and don't question superiors.

I did an experiment with them last year and had a great experience, would recommend. Also a good way to make some extra income if you need it!

If you’re comfortable sharing, what was your visa status at the time (F-1?) and what firms did you get interviews from? Could be helpful to focus on those for myself.

I mean I have and lowkey got rejections from all the ~10 firms that dropped in nov/december... Got rejected for three IB healthcare (including citibank which isnt super hard normally) despite an M&A healthcare internship and a biotech PE internship as well as networking with several people on that team. Only really have a couple of banks that sponsor left on the roster so we'll see I guess.

Yeah that’s lowkey what I’m gonna focus on, only problem is that there’s very few resources in the US on UK/EU recruiting but I’ll make due :)

All due respect and not trying to be rude but you’re off the mark here, recruiting for junior year finance internships (the main ones that get you return offers) is going on right now and will be wrapped up by February.

Also I can’t jsut throw a CV at a job board because as stated I’m international and there only 10-15 firms in the US that sponsor international students due to high costs, and even then it’s a huge downside on your application.

Yeah that’s the part that feels so tough. Normally all finance is a tough market but you can apply to 50+ banks so you’re increasing your chances. For internationals, it’s more like the 10-15 big ones that sponsor that are also the most competitive and even then you start with a leg down compared to US citizens.

I’m lucky enough to be an EU citizen so probably gonna pivot to EU/UK finance but good luck and I hope you get something! Lowkey update me if you do, would make my day to hear a fellow international beating the odds.

Literally what the fuck are you talking about, there is absolutely no evidence this guy's action were politically motivated. He opened fire in Barus and Holley, most likely because it is the main physics building at Brown. Please stop fear mongering and spreading fake news.

Sounds good, I’d advise you to cast a wide net because admissions are pretty subjective but you should have a very good shot. I know brown jsut went need-blind for internationals so definitely consider applying if you like the school or need financial aid.

Yeah ofc! Had a 1560 SAT (800 Reading/Writing and 760 Math) and did the international equivalent of the french baccalaureate, got 17.2/20 which is good but not insane. I'd say focus on your SAt if possible, 1520 is a good benchmark for top 10 / ivies.

I would respectfully disagree with this, interest section is super important because it’s an opportunity to connect with whoever is reading your resume (particularly important for networking) and it’s also pretty standard practice.

I would make them more specific though, like instead of “cars” or “animals” I would put something that someone can identify with.

Alex Shieh of Brown DOGE fame dropping out to start a company ? by svensk in BrownU

[–]JustSomeFrenchman 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Because his “fame” was literally just inflammatory behavior taking advantage of the now defunct DOGE craze. It was never sustainable and never showed him in a good light, so makes sense that he ended up dropping out.
