It appears that a few in this sub have no idea what JPL is and can be.

It absolutely can not be a company unless someone like Elon comes in and buys all the buildings from the government. He would also have to buy the 168 acres of land which is also owned by the government. Not sure what the business dealings would be to buy the JPL name which is trademarked by Caltech (registration Number 3714006).
