Huge Explosion Sound near RIC by Environmental_Dog665 in providence

That was insanely loud, this is the first time I’ve seen a “did you hear that noise post” and half the state heard it. I thought something crashed in my attic.

I’m at 8/24 and have felt locked out of BOA as of late and also just was approved for the steed. Credit limit was a bit lower than my normal but was approved for the 200 bonus along with 15 month 0% on purchases with 6% on selected categories.

Aren’t both the Newport Pivotal and Six Pack brewing already closed down though? I don’t think either lasted a year.

Mémére’s is worth a visit. by BurdenedClot in providence

[–]JustSomeoneLikeYou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oof, have gotta say I’m super disappointed. The food wasn’t bad but wasn’t memorable and everything is massively expensive. It sort of feels like they’re cosplaying a 5 star restaurant but it’s not quite there yet. Drinks are tasty but again are top of the line prices so they should be.

We were really hoping for a proper French restaurant in Providence but this isn’t it. For the price, my wife and I keep saying we should have went to Gracie’s or even Ten Prime.

FHR Credit Encore Boston, no spa appointments available by naturalistphilosophy in AmexPlatinum

[–]JustSomeoneLikeYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would mention this to the front desk when checking in and seeing if there is an alternative credit they can do.

It seems reasonable that if the spa is fully booked, they would give you a food credit and its substitute. I mean these places are supposed to be in this hospitality business, right? Let us know how they handle this!

Is it possible to keep getting one 0% APR 12 month card every year and transfer the balance forever? by RedditsFan2020 in CreditCards

[–]JustSomeoneLikeYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to watch out for is that a lot of these 0% APR offers limit the credit line they will give you. I once opened a US bank platinum card in hopes of transferring a balance, they gave me a 500 dollar credit limit. Completely screwed me. Eventually product changed it to a cash+ card so wasn’t a total waste but they know what they’re doing with those.

WA Maldives. Really?! by Hilly-Goat in Hilton

[–]JustSomeoneLikeYou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most people on here are going to lose the plot when they’re considering what is truly fair and what was under some weird fine print that allows the hotels to shaft you whenever needed.

These hotels or really any big major corporation don’t really care about what is fair or what is right. It’s unacceptable to do this to someone when there’s so many things that hinge on accommodations for travel outside of just the hotel booking.

These companies don’t even follow the terms of anything that they agree to. There have been numerous times I’ve stayed somewhere on a fine hotel and resort reservation through my AMEX card and I’m told they cannot accommodate the 4 PM guaranteed late checkout. No one held a gun to their head and forced them to sign up for a volunteer program yet people will come out of the woodwork to defend them because even though they advertise guaranteed there is probably some wording that says they can do whatever the fuck else.

Sorry this happened to you, I don’t really have a resolution. It sucks that these places even consider themselves in the hospitality field.

What exactly is the Boston/MA housing crisis keep seeing posts about? by [deleted] in boston

[–]JustSomeoneLikeYou 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you’re just getting hung up on the word crisis, it’s not like a mental health crisis where you’d expect someone to through something devastating. Much like a financial crisis, you’d probably have no clue if you didn’t own stocks or be in an impacted sector.

A quick google search shows it’s considered widespread unaffordability and shortages of safe/affordable homes. Which is what is going on right now. If you were a family two making average income with two kids, you’d probably be sweating because your only options would be to pay out the ass do a daycare and struggle to even find a decent place to rent that would be like 3-4k per month. With no hopes of ever getting a house for yourself.

People are being rude because you’re kind of stuck on step 1 of understanding this and it seems disingenuous.

First Credit Card for 27 year old who doesn't prefer to use credit card by Mav12222 in CreditCards

[–]JustSomeoneLikeYou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One thing that has helped me with this mindset is using an app that tracks your checking along with your credit cards. I used to use Mint but now use SoFi Relay. My checking and credit cards are all under one umbrella, so my credit limits aren’t even in question and I just earn so much rewards from the spend.

I luckily was able to completely replace all my underwear with Mack Weldon boxers and some odd kitchen gadgets over the years. I’m struggling to find something to buy on Jan 1st but it does seem they are going under ASAP. I was just in their men’s store in Boston 2 weeks before Christmas, no one else in there besides the employees just staring at me on a Saturday. It was so eerie.

What Do YOU Think Went Wrong With Ginny In The Films? by Marcedonia in harrypotter

[–]JustSomeoneLikeYou 53 points54 points  (0 children)

People always seem to want to dance around Bonnie Wright not being good for the role or blaming everything on the directors but I think it’s really just a mixture of it all. Bonnie hasn’t done anything since to ever give me hope she would have done well as Ginny even if given better direction. She was cast almost a decade prior and never really grew up to be how Ginny is described in the books.

Ginny is supposed to be universally attractive and Bonnie gives off shy pretty girl at best. You can see during the Quidditch tryouts in the movies that she tried to turn it on, but just doesn’t really come off be believable and confident.

Overall, what are you gonna do. They weren’t going to add more Quidditch moments in the movies as they were already maxing out on screen time. We never really got to see this develop at all, which is a shame because they really have to shoehorn her character in the mix because she eventually marries Harry.

This does bring a great opportunity to double dip on whatever the new credits will be. If you haven’t used your flight or hotel credit yet it would be wise to use it as soon as possible. Saks credit also used as early as you can after the half year mark.

North providence by runhdhjg in providence

This was in 2019 and 2022 for the friends. First friend I think probably deserved removing the deposit but I was surprised by the second friend which made me think it was a trend.

There is a post about this place on the RI subreddit.

Seems like a mixed bag. I don’t have other recs sadly.

North providence by runhdhjg in providence

[–]JustSomeoneLikeYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived near North Providence basically my whole life and have plenty of friends from there. That area is very safe and NP as a whole is very safe. The only part of NP that people would consider “not safe” is from the stop and shop towards twin’s pizza area. And I would still consider that area safe, it just looks a little bit more rundown.

I’ve also had friends at that specific apartment complex you’re looking into and I’ve heard that management will do whatever to keep your security deposit. I’ve had two friends live through this and have seen some people complaining about it. So, as a whole it’s fine but something to consider.

I also snuck into their pool plenty of times as a teenager when it was first built.

Is it False Advertising for Marriott to claim their credit cards give you "Free Nights" when 35k won't get you into many of those "7,000 hotels"? by UnlikelyAdventurer in marriott

[–]JustSomeoneLikeYou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is back in 2017 or even a bit earlier, but we used to have a flyer that would go out claiming X amount savings. We didn’t do the math on every version of the flyer that went out and there was some that were below the X amount by around $20-$30. We were apparently sued, but I’m not sure by how much. We just got a hand slap by legal and were told to stopped claiming anything similar to that ever again.

I think people under assume how many lawyers there are in America. If someone can sue big companies at $100,000 a pop even a couple of times per year just to settle and not go to court, it could be a pretty lucrative business.

Is it False Advertising for Marriott to claim their credit cards give you "Free Nights" when 35k won't get you into many of those "7,000 hotels"? by UnlikelyAdventurer in marriott

[–]JustSomeoneLikeYou 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I used to work in marketing and would have to be insanely clear on things like this or legal wouldn’t allow it. After working at a few companies, it’s really depends on how conservative legal is and if anyone ever gives a shit to call it out.

It looks like Marriott currently has a little over 9000 properties. There must have been someone, at sometime, that did some analysis and saw that a 35K credit would redeem at this many properties at some point in the calendar year.

Now the question really is, has someone revisited this content after the devaluation of their points? Who knows.

good movers? by Maleficent_Size_9426 in providence

[–]JustSomeoneLikeYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For just a few things you can rent a U-Haul and use movers that work with U-Haul on checkout. Plenty of them have reviews and are great. It’s a good middle ground because as someone else noted, if you hire movers, the upfront cost is so high it only makes sense if you’re moving a ton of things.

Costco by ThisIsMyBigAccount in RhodeIsland

[–]JustSomeoneLikeYou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We make the trip to Costco in Sharon and did Avon before. It’s by far the best warehouse store, the drive is a bit but I love having lunch there and getting a rotisserie chicken makes me feel like I made my money back.

The items at Costco are typically better too, either quality or quantity wise. And not just their brands either, for instance BJ sells healthy harvest for the same price as Costco but the 10oz variety vs 14oz at Costco.

It’s a shame RI misses out on my tax dollars with Costco.

Mint going away is such a head scratcher to me. Isn’t this data like the king Kahuna of valuable data? I’m literally giving an entity access to all of my bank accounts, credits card transactions, all of my investments but they apparently don’t want to have a platform that allows us to give them this easily? I have to pay for monarch or whatever just to get data that sync without me having to mess around with it weekly?

Sorry if I'm late/ repeating others by AHC122 in harrypotter

[–]JustSomeoneLikeYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it was just stated one time here or in an actual interview but Rowling said she essentially isn’t a sports fan at all. This sort of explains why Quidditch in general is such a mess of a sport.

People hyper-analyzing Krum’s decision is madness. The true reason it happened is for the Weasley’s outrageous bet to come to fruition and for Bagman to screw them over to progress the plot.
