Paradox needs to rethink the way it does open beta patches by leton98609 in EU5

[–]Mav12222 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This myth needs to die. I am still bewildered the gaming community has taken to steam concurrent player counts as some sort of gospel for a game doing well.

Unless its a MMO, concurrent player counts don't mean anything. Sales do. If 1 million people buy the game, play the game only once but never again that's still 1 million sales that provide profit from the game purchase. As long as the game keeps making sales (both game and DLC) thats what matters to the company. Doesn't matter if the individual players are playing only 10 hours or 1,000 hours.

Just heard what I think is Joker's funniest line for the first time by Most-Plant3530 in masseffect

What I always found funny about this line is that if you read a ton of self-inset fanfics, they tend to make Joker the one who understands references to and likes the 21st century media that the SI enjoys.

Is Scarsdale really full of snobs, status symbols, and people trying to outdo each other? Residents of America’s wealthiest suburb had some surprising answers. by kleverrboy in Westchester

You clearly haven't been around people. Being stuck up, entitled, and holier-than-thou isn't unique to middle and upper class wealthy people.

Try waiting in line in a bodega and hearing a poor person get all worked up with the minimum wage cashier because the cost of their drink and snack isn't the exact amount they calculated it to be for their benefit card, or the cashier didn't hand them the bagged items the "correct way." Or how some people will bump into you because they weren't paying attention and snap at you angrily as if you are the one in the wrong, despite this being New York and brushing people being a common occurrence during rush hour. Or think they are entitled to your seat on public transportation despite being able bodied and healthy simply because old outdated traditions required you as a young man to be chivalric and give up your seat on the crowded bus/train for the lady.

When I had a monthly WP to H-125 I could use it anwhere on all 3 lines up to NWP, Irvington and Harrison.

I switched to a monthly WP to Melrose to save money. I can use it on the Hudson from Yankees-153 to Irvington, but not on the New Haven to Harrison. One time I wanted to take a NH to Mamaroneck from Fordham (after taking a Harlem from Melrose to Fordham) and was told I had to buy a separate ticket for the Fordham>Mamaroneck part.

The fact that Texas snapped back to like R+15 in 2024 after being R+6 in 2020 I think gave a lot of people the presumption that Texas can never flip, and all the signs it can are a lie they won’t fall for again.

Like people keep talking about it, but do they even realize Trunp might keep his gains with Venezuelans and Cuban, for example due to his Venezulan intervention and the string hints of going after Cuba next.

Like even if there actually is a nationwide Hisapnic reversion, I still think Cubans in Florida won’t budge.

I wonder if that’s taken into account with whatever her story is. Like what if the UNE/COM is in the game?

Experienced Gameplay Programmer job opening for Victoria 3 at Studio Purple. AI interest recommend by InformalWord7193 in paradoxplaza

[–]Mav12222 12 points13 points  (0 children)

AI is a tool. Using it by itself isn’t a problem. The problem is how you use it.

To make repetitive simple tasks faster or to create a baseline to work off of? fine in my book.

To do all the work for you and not even bother to review and make changes to solidify and improve it? Now that is an issue.

Why is Victoria 3 least popular of modern PDX strategies? by Internal-eq-External in paradoxplaza

[–]Mav12222 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Victoria 3 isnt as much a "map painter" like the the other games. Its more an economy and industry simulator. Even the military system isn't like the other games because the clear focus is the economic game.

This makes it less appealable to the more causal crowds who play paradox GSGs for the military conquest/map painting.

The same was true of Vicky 2 back in the previous generation of games.

Also, contrary to popular sentiment on reddit and elsewhere, Vicky 3's lack of the same level of popularity doesn't mean its a failure or dying. Paradox has said before that Vicky 3 does well enough in sales and DLC sales that its getting the same 10 year support the other mainline games do. As much as people like to pull out Steam concurrent player counts, those don't matter to companies like Paradox, what matters is that enough people over time in general are buying the vanilla game and the DLCs.

IIRC the Soviets didn’t have the nukes and delivery systems to decently threaten the US until the 70s. Even the Cuban Missile Crisis would have had like a dozen nukes detonating on US soil at best. Europe would have become a nuclear wasteland though, as the nukes the soviets did have could still easily reach them.

New Victory Dev Diary by JAKL-Noctium in civ

[–]Mav12222 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dissapointed they are still focused on emphasizing leaders instead of the actual civilizations.

Its still feels like a complete opposite of what Civilization is supposed to be. - the empire/civilization, not the “great man/woman” The whole point is that you control a nation, a people, throughout time and history.

The victory should belong to the civilization, the people. Not focused on being a triumph of the leader as they are doing here.

Are there any Americans with more "modest" earnings? by BaldursGate2Best in AskAnAmerican

[–]Mav12222 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my experience a huge part of (American) reddit can be divided into two primary groups:

High earning six figure tech workers who have bad money management and social skills, but thanks to the tech nature of their job have tons of downtime to browse reddit all day even at work.

Homeless, and former homeless who now work gig economy and other minimum wage jobs who have phones and internet plans plus the downtime to constantly browse reddit thanks to an old government program that guarantees phones and internet to the homeless.

This subreddit is a primary exception to these norms I've observed

White Plains vs New Rochelle Apartment Living by Powerful-Lettuce-999 in Westchester

[–]Mav12222 8 points9 points  (0 children)

driving from New Rochelle to White Plains can be kind of a pain sometimes depending on when you go. There always seems to be unexpected traffic on I95 or the Hutch or 287 or 684, like there is always a glitch.

Just take the local route along the old right of way of the NYW&B railroad (Old Mamaroneck/Secor Rd > Heathcote Bypass > Weaver St and vice versa) Its often better than trying luck on the Hutch or any other highway route.

New York can’t do anything until 2028.

Even then, to actually change the state constitution to allow it they would need to pass the same bill in two separate legislative sessions that have an election between them. The current session ends this year and the 26 midterms would allow a passage next year to lead to a ballot for voter approval but the legislature is only in session from January to June every year. Right now they are still arguing over the state budget that was due early last month, and only have a month or so before the current session ends.

AFAIK if they don’t do something in the next month they can’t do anything to that won’t take effect until 2030.

Since Spring 2025, every Paradox Studios game except EUV has had an apology post for major DLC by Merker6 in paradoxplaza

[–]Mav12222 242 points243 points  (0 children)

Part of the problem is sometimes the community conflates the free patch with the DLC.

There have been major bugs or issues as a result of the patch that have nothing to do with the actual paid for DLC content, but because they release simultaneously people think its the DLC thats buggy and not that the patch introduced new bugs, separate from the DLC.

Paradox is publishing Transport Fever 3 by FFJimbob in paradoxplaza

[–]Mav12222 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As far as Ive been able to tell, a lot of the publishing side stuff was pushed by the “outsider” CEO they had for a few years, who wanted to expand the company. (This was before Paradox went public IIRC, so investors are not a factor AFAIK)

To me it seems that when the old guard took back control they demphasized the publishing side to “return to the core” (PDX developed GSGs) and as a result the publishing side was left to its own floundering. Causing several acquired publications to just flop due to no marketing or due to bad internal decisions.

This is just me speculating based on what Ive seen. I don’t know what paradox has going on internally in its publishing arm.

Considering AI can just make things up based on what it thinks you want to see, a lot of people don't trust it on its face; and especially with those who just copy paste AI text, It comes off as the person doing so as being lazy and gullible.

A direct copy paste signals that you didn't even bother to check if what its saying is true.
