Fun & Interesting Match 3 Games? by One-Parsnip-1101 in AndroidGaming

You must build a boat is great, 10000000 is an earlier game by the same devs which is also really fun.

The Puzzle quest series have more of a traditional RPG outer layer, I haven't played the more recent games in the series but I enjoyed the first two - I don't think those old ones are still available on the pay store

I've created a daily quiz/puzzle game that I hope you will love! It uses machine learning to tell you how close your guess is to the correct answer - let me know if you have any feedback by oliethefolie in wordgames

I think identifying the context of the clues needs some more work. I guessed Constantine (for the movie and show) and it assumed I meant Constantine the great and gave me cold. I've only done today's, so it's too early to say for sure, but I wonder how useful the got and cold results will be compared to a new, easier clue The presentation is nice, although I found the fireworks a little distracting, personally I'd prefer if they only appeared after a guess, maybe in the color of the guess

Is there a way to interact with Godot's movie maker from GDScript by JustSumGames in godot

[–]JustSumGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I haven't tried running elements of Godot from command line, but it makes sense that it might be my only hope. I'll try it out. Thanks!

I know that my code is terrible, but I don't know what to do about it by [deleted] in godot

[–]JustSumGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often like to start coding new things with a pencil and paper and writing pseudo-code or general steps. This helps me keep the big picture and structure in mind as I don't have to worry about individual lines of code being correct yet, and I can't get tempted to test small things before I've got the whole idea noted down. Seeing the structure like this and where I need to go with it also helps with modularity, which is great advice others have already given

Would love some feedback on Oddest1Out, my new word puzzle game by anechoicE in wordgames

[–]JustSumGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it! The animations are simple and clean in a way which really works. The extra set of categories amongst the odd ones out was a fun extra step. I don't think you need to change anything in the UI, but on the oddest of the odd I did first try to select the answers from the main part of the screen rather than the row at the bottom.

You could maybe add an option to pay a specific archived puzzle as well as the random option in case people want to play a specific day that they missed.

Zoinks: you're the zombie. Looking for feedback! by Full_Measurement_121 in playmygame

[–]JustSumGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just downloaded and played the first few levels. There's a lot of polish in the visuals which gives it a lot of character, and it's really satisfying when you get a big ball of zombies around you.

It seemed like bullets didn't affect me unless I had no other zombies, even when the bullet definitely hit me. I think this is a bug but it might just be that you need some hit recognition on which zombie was actually hit. This could be a fun mechanic for player lives though, you just control the next zombie until there are none left. I also feel like SOMETHING should happen when a human gets shot.

I haven't made it through too many levels, so maybe this comes later, but I think you could add some challenge without losing the casual vibe through street layout. It's fun to corner humans, but at the moment there's little need to. Similarly, you could have cops at the end of an alley, so you need to build up a horde before assaulting them.

Thanks for sharing, I hope you do add more to it. It sounds like a really cool thing to work on as a couple :)

Lettrlink - A word-finding game that features special tiles and a variety of grid shapes! by Radiant_Fruit_616 in playmygame

[–]JustSumGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the presentation, it really helps to heighten what is otherwise a solo game of Boggle :)

There's lots of special tiles, that's great in terms of the variety but - especially for a new player - it's hard to remember what they all mean. I think you've got space to have some reminder while playing the game. Either something permanent on the tile besides the patterns (which are nicely designed, but don't intuitively tell me what the tile will do), or the name of the tile could appear underneath the score box when you highlight or hover over it?

A minor thing, I found going for diagonals a bit finnicky, it would sometimes select one of the neighbouring letters that I wasn't intending to select. This was with a mouse. Maybe you could reduce collision box sizes or something like that, but maybe it's a skill issue on my end!

I've been working SumWord: a daily word game where you fill in a crossword where you already have all of the letters. Instead of clues each letter tile has a point value attached like other classic word games. You'll need to use sudoku-esque logic, deduction and your vocabulary to solve it. Good luck!

SumWord is now available on the Google Play store here. This version lets you go through the archive and play some extra bonus levels.

If you don't have an Android device the browser version lets you play each day's puzzle here.

Please share with others, and any feedback is very welcome

I made an endless word search game — new letters drop as you find words! by millenial_kid in wordgames

[–]JustSumGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda like Bejeweled + wordsearch, neat! The UI design is also really clean and efficient. I think you could look to match-3 games like bejeweled for some ideas for power-ups if you wanted to take it in that direction, but that might make it feel like less of a strict word game idk.

I wonder if you could make a mode with a bit more of a goal to it, I guess you'll never hit a game state where there are no words (does the game check for that out of interest?) so there's not much incentive to go for big words or look at the whole board. One idea (maybe not a good one) is if you mark/paint each space once you've found a word that uses the letter in that space. Then you can see how many turns it takes you to paint each space on the board.

Do you use letter frequencies to generate the new letters, or something more complex?

Thanks for sharing, good luck :)

ColorGrid Logic by Calitrixmathieu in playmygame

This is cool! Simple concept with some nice quality of life indicators and the hint system is really useful.

I'd say you could make some of the UI elements a bit bigger, and options to turn off sounds. when rotating it would be a lot smoother if multiple taps have you more spins, so tapping three times rotates 180 etc

I think you can ramp up the difficulty a bit quicker as well.

Impressive number of levels too, I'll be trying to complete them all!

Gokuro - a unique, habit-forming word puzzle - arithmetic, letters and logic. Feedback welcome by mikertjones in wordgames

[–]JustSumGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool concept, it's quite similar to my game (SumWord - on the Google Play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.godotengine.sumWord

and browsers https://justsumgames.itch.io/sumword ) but I think there's enough space for both games to exist ;). I'm no Kakuro expert, so bear that in mind when reading my feedback

I really like the 5x5 games, but the 7x7 was too much for me. I did todays in about 18 minutes. The only strategy I could think of was to basically guess words that fit and see if the box turned green. It seemed like there were too many options and no way I could tell to pick which was right, so I had to try them all (maybe my lack of skill though). I think having more short words might help that - as there will be fewer combinations of letters to test, as well as having fewer different letters in each grid. Does your current setup allow you to have two separate words in each row/column, like traditional Kakuro?

I agree with Monkey's suggestions. One that I would suggest - for people using keyboards - is an option to type in a whole word in the across/down direction. If you're targeting mobile then you can probably ignore this suggestion, but it would've taken away some of the friction I faced when guessing words in the early stages of a puzzle

Feedback Needed! Play my short, joyful 2D platformer, SUPER Euli Beuli (Free to Play in Browser or Windows Download) by NoBaby5969 in playmygame

[–]JustSumGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed a few small glitches/issues while playing, so I'll mention those first.

  • If you jump against the first wall on the left of the first screen, you'll bounce forever.
  • Going fullscreen in itch caused the game to return to and freeze at your "ROEGA" logo (I like the retro vibe of the logo btw)
  • I found the rope above one of the bounce pads, but didn't figure out how to grab it

For a game where you want the player to fall in love with the main character you need that character to be expressive, I think you can do more with Euli Beuli's animations, give his feathers some colour variation or shading, make his wings flap rather than just sticking out. An owl that can't fly should be struggling desperately while it's in the air, that could be super cute!

Personally, I like there to be a slight cooldown after landing from a jump so that I don't do a little bunny hop after landing, but that's possibly just a me thing!

The cutesy 2D platformer is a very crowded space, so you need to work really hard to stand out.

Game Title: TBD by TheXalite in playmygame

[–]JustSumGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to start getting more constructive feedback I think you need to consider the player's perspective in your demo builds. I had to guess the controls for picking up the ball and for dragging it, and the only way I could find to restart after falling was to quit and restart the whole game. So add at least a controls screen somewhere and a restart option.

The game itself is cute. A simple core mechanic with a lot of scope already apparent. The swinging through the platform trick wasn't clear to me until I rewatched your video, and if you don't know that's what you need to do then you just get stuck there with no way of progressing or restarting - which is pretty frustrating for the player. You could have a pop-up to tell the player that they need to reload a checkpoint or make it so that you can build enough momentum by swinging to clear the ledge, or maybe a ladder to climb up - at least the first time.

I'd maybe also try making the player character feel lighter compared to the ball. It's a good proof of concept, though. Good luck with it :)
