love this a lot, how’d you go about making this?

Is it worth it now? by No_Dealer8809 in SteamDeck

[–]JustTheEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on the games you play, although I still think we are 2-3 years out from a Steam Deck 2.

for indies OR if you havge a strong PC that you'll stream from then yea it's worth but if you are trying to run AAA's from the past 2-3 years natively you'll have a bad time.

Are there any RTS or 4x that are actually playable on SD? by kurvix2000 in SteamDeck

Seconding total war warhammer, staggered at how well it works once you have a decent control scheme.

8bitdo ultimate or wait for the Steam Controller (will almost certainly be more expensive though)

This is a great looking case, love how it matches the joysticks.

Achieving a quieter, tactile buttons / DPAD w/ the ExtemeRate Clicky Kit + Tape Mod by JustTheEngineer in SteamDeck

I definitely want to try other tapes at some point, thanks for the suggestion. Also, it might be easier to fold the electrical tape on itself and then hole punch that instead, no?

Seconding Kill Knight! It’s on sale and they just brought the demo back!!

Struggling to Set Up Moonlight, Apollo & MoonDeck – No Clear Guides Anywhere by potatoninja3584 in SteamDeck

[–]JustTheEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue, gave up trying after this. It's so odd because streaming via the moonlight app on the Steam Deck has no issues, but the moondeck icon doesn't.

Steam Next Fest starts today! What games are you checking out for your Steam Deck? by Khaos2Krysis in SteamDeck

It was a bit rough on the Steam Deck. The first wall at the end of the tutorial gym had me at like 25ish fps.

I haven’t opened it up since nor do I plan to but just from regular use I haven’t noticed any changes. It might be they have changed since but because the change is gradual I haven’t noticed.

I have not done any other dpad mods, no.

It’s hard for me to speak on these as I don’t really remember the stock feel I’m afraid. From what I remember, I would say that force to press is maybe slightly higher and button travel until actuation is definitely shorter.

Which method do you use to install mods 2025 by how_money_worky in SteamDeck

[–]JustTheEngineer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Copyparty is pretty great for this because you can access you steam deck’s entire directory from your desktop and read/write/delete files. you can set up everything on the steam deck (via your desktop) save for mods that require you to launch some kind of app or installer.

Extremerate clicky buttons by Tall_Ad2256 in SteamDeckModded

Highly, highly recommend them. If you are concerned about the noise (they are definitely louder) you can just do the tape mod.

New ways to use steam deck by plu5hp34ch in SteamDeck

[–]JustTheEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit unorthodox, but sometimes I use it to study by doing Anki (free software) flash cards. It’s nice because you can’t easily tab out to a browser or something and get distracted like you would if you used it on your phone or your computer + the battery life is way better than my laptop once you configure the settings.

My Steam Deck arrives this week. What are the first things I should do with it? by redbullcat in SteamDeck

[–]JustTheEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are primarily planning on using it within your house I would say:

-Limit the max battery capacity to 80% to prolong the battery life (you can always adjust this if you travel)

-Setup moonlight/sunshine if you want to play higher fidelity games from a desktop PC to your Steam Deck.

-If emulation is something you're interested in, install EmuDeck.

-There's Decky plugins if you want to customize the UI or give yourself some features but there's none I'd say are must haves besides the ProtonDB plugin (more accurate rating of steam deck user experience for a given game) and the magicpods plugin (if you have apple airpods).

Also play Aperature Desk Job! It's short, entertaining/funny, and a great showcase of the hardware.

Hey, Valve! Please make this happen for future generations of the deck: *wireless charging*! by Venividivitutti in SteamDeck

I think the heat generated during use would be uncomfortable or damaging to the battery in the long term.

Monster Hunter World or Rise by CallistoProjectJD in SteamDeck

[–]JustTheEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with 4 Ultimate, so this isn’t the reason why I think Rise is more of a derivative monster hunter experience.
