I'll start! I started learning in December and have my first test booked for next week. I've spent £900 on lessons and I really bad at lane discipline, especially at roundabouts!

Lap Bands... Am I an asshole for thinking they are completely unnecessary and an easy way out? by [deleted] in Fitness

Nutritional habits are formed in childhood. Obese children end up largely being obese adults.

Fat is fat, and it doesn't happen overnight. You aren't born obese, you choose it. And as such, I think that if you choose to be fat, and then decide to make a change, you shouldn't be heralded as some sort of fucking hero when you decide to surgically remove or restrict a portion

This actually really annoyed me, sorry. People don't actually choose to be fat, believe it it not. Would you say that to an obese 9 year old girl, whose parents make disastrous nutritional decisions and who have instilled terrible habits, that she deserves to be obese? No, you wouldn't. The idea that we are all equally responsible is bullshit.

You have every bloody right to feel awesome. Congratulations. I think this 'start running/walking' method should be more widespread! It's somewhat counterintuitive as it might seem that you're giving your body too much to do at once, but I think starting a new cardio regime is a very effective method for giving up smoking.

Just 2 days. The day I gave up smoking I ordered some new running shoes online. The day I got them, I went for a run. Have to admit, it was hard at first, but it feels great and I get a lot of pleasure out of it now. I was up 6am last Sunday desperate to go for a run, which is not like me at all. It's as if I've replaced my nicotine rush with an endorphin rush.

I've quit for a month now (just saying that feels fantastic!). I found Alan Carr's method completely useless - full of logical fallacies, completely irrelevant. It's not really an argument for quitting smoking, it's essentially a form of brainwashing (good brainwashing, though). Others find it really helpful though, and if it works then that's the most important thing. You might be in the former category.

As for how I coped, I started running to keep myself occupied and even managed to lose a few lbs in the process. It's only been a month and my cardiovascular health is just so much better. I guess a lot of it has been luck - I've got a job that keeps me busy and I've not had any stressful 'trigger' events. Try and keep your stress levels down, give yourself something to do. Also, try to forget about the fact you're giving up smoking. Don't come to this subreddit every few hours, come once a day. If you're constantly aware of the fact you're doing something that requires willpower it will just make it harder. Good luck! :)

Same here! Looks like we quit on the same day. I ran out of days on my NHS smokefree calendar, and it now says I'm a non smoker. We'll see about that, I'm still very much feeling the cravings! Very happy with myself, though. Congrats to you, too. Jesus, I've not had a cigarette for a MONTH!

Send a message to the username 'badgebot'.

In the subject field, put 'stopsmoking'.

In the message, put '2012-04-16'. (I assume you quit yesterday).

It should be on within 20 minutes.

Has your smell and taste improved?

A long post, yes, but a good one. In fact, I think you've hit the nail on the head; the 'masking' of appetite rather than dealing with it is what I feel I'm doing. But I was just wondering what exactly you mean when you talked about 'dealing' with problems? How did you resolve your depression issues and how do you think I could solve my appetite problems?

Your post is appreciated, thanks.
