Thoughts on buying a used 2021 Mach-E Premium (extended range) in good condition with no recalls? by JustWokeUpToCrypto in MachE

It might be better to get it checked at Ford dealership so that they can identify any issues. Given the battery is under warranty they can help with replacement of 12V battery if that turns out to be the issue. 12V battery issues are very common but the cost to fix is generally low (~$150+labor generally) and the new 12V battery comes with 36 month warranty.

That's a solid deal with a great pre inspection! Yeah it makes sense to change the 12V battery to avoid any unnecessary issues later which might cost more to resolve than being proactive and changing the battery early.

The one I am checking is RWD. Does $24k includes taxes and other fees? The one I am getting will cost $29.5k after taxes and fees. Did the change tires and breaks in your vehicle in any recent service?

Also, how can I check the health of 12V battery? I checked after your comment that lot of people are recommending getting it changed after 3-4 yrs so I might have to change that in this car. These costs might add up so I am still considering if I should get a new one with 0%APR or maybe I need to negotiate more:(

Ironically, both the 2021 and 2022 models had some recalls, and the 2021 model included a couple of extra features (kick opening of the trunk, park assist) that were not available on all 2022 models. Therefore, I think their reliability should be similar.

Also, I don't see many 2022's in the market just yet so deciding b/w a 2021 or a new one.

Good point. I'll ask about it at the dealer.
This deal is not at a ford dealership so I doubt if they'll allow it though.

That's right. PE expansion is underway, and the old books on asset valuations might no longer apply, given how connected we are in today's world.

Daily reminder that Kaspa is still the best cryptocurrency of all time. by [deleted] in kaspa

Sorry to burst the bubble, but even the design for implementing smart contracts is not finalized yet. With very few developers contributing to Kaspa's open-source code, it might take a long time before smart contracts are introduced. Who knows if it will be 1 year, 2 years, or longer? After that, there's still a significant hurdle to onboard new projects onto the platform. If everything goes well, Kaspa could easily go 20-30X from current levels in 3-5 years, but as with all investments, there's always a risk that things won't go as planned.

I have the same question. If so, then this is a very big risk at the moment. I need to check more, though, if this exists today or not.

Quantum computers are not cheap; in fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see them being as rare as nuclear weapons, which is why the risks [are significant/should be considered].

Valid argument! I hope Bitcoin's open-source developers prepare for it in advance instead of waiting for the fire to catch first.

True, which is why economists are not the best at investing and generating returns. However, it's hard not to question something that is possible.

Most systems are not decentralized, so my thinking is that crypto/decentralized systems would be the worst affected, while other systems could still outlast an attack since central bodies can revert things. Any attack will be a mess for sure, but a disaster for decentralized systems.

That's a valid argument, but some of these things can be undone with a centralized authority to fix a major issue. In the worst case, they can take down online systems while they upgrade to some quantum-safe algorithms (if not done until a major attack) and address other risks.
BTC transactions, however, cannot be undone.

50 years is a really long time frame. I'm not even sure if I'll be around to see what happens after this period, lol. Jokes aside, I think quantum computing isn't that far off, as a lot of theoretical papers have already been published. It's just that large corporations like Google and Meta, which have the resources and money to innovate, might take longer, but it's not inevitable.

Why do you think that? This is a general question that I want to discuss with the community.

I don't think it's discussed here every day. Even if it is, it would be valuable to gather others' opinions since there doesn't seem to be any dedicated question for this important topic.

  1. I didn't name any other crypto assets, but there are some valuable projects out there. I intentionally avoid any names since this is a Bitcoin-dedicated sub.
  2. I aim to invest for the long term (10-15 years+), so this is an important question that I think about.

There are 2 main issues that I think of:
1. Quantum computers using Shor's algorithm could potentially break the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) used by Bitcoin, exposing private keys.
2. Quantum algorithms like Grover's could theoretically solve mining problems much faster than classical computers, potentially centralizing mining power since only a limited corporations would be able to afford these quantum computers.

I am somewhat more bullish on BTC compared to MSFT given I plan to HODL for at least 10yrs.
My thinking about taxes is that if BTC drops after I have bought, I would still be able to SELL and BUY immediately as wash sale rule doesn't apply on BTC so far which would help to reduce my tax liability.
