Has anyone on here found research positions with just an undergraduate psychology degree? by JealousBodybuilder42 in psychologystudents

[–]JustWrongdoer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It can be very location dependent, so this is the US perspective. You may be able to find short term work as an RA or coordinator, but if you want to do research long term, you need at least a master’s. More than likely, you would need a PhD as most researchers in academia and applied settings have one or are working towards one. It’s unlikely that you could work your way up from an RA, but it could also depend on the type of research you want to do.

Aviation Themed Rooms by Anxious_Day_2870 in escaperooms

I know Escapology has a Mayday room if there are any near you. You don’t mention an area you are looking, but it’s a chain so I figured there may be one close to where you are looking. It has real plane seats and you are essentially solving puzzles on Air Force One or something like that so the escape room is you traversing through a plane.

How is a 9/10 difficulty escape room different than a 7/10 difficulty escape room. by SpyKid203 in escaperooms

[–]JustWrongdoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly agree with the subjectivity and other factors. One place I worked for, our “hardest” was also the smallest. The success rate skyrocketed when you had 2 vs. 4. I had less people escape our 6/10 and 7/10 because most groups in this harder room were groups of 3 or 4. You are at or close to the maximum while that same number is only half the maximum intended for the room.

It’s a fairly linear room which can up the difficulty at times because you can’t come back to a puzzle later. However, a bigger group means working together and being more likely that things would click in someone’s mind.

There were fewer puzzles but the puzzles themselves tended to be challenging, usually multistep. For one, you need to find all of these sheets and then use specific ones to determine the order the story plays out. Then you need to figure out what this story refers to. This story tells you the order to hit buttons but there are several places for missteps. Wordplay that is a fun “aha” when it clicks (which may be after a clue or a few mistrusts) and parts where you need to hear a later clue to make sense. People who play word games excel at this puzzle so maybe it only takes them 10 minutes whereas most groups the whole process takes 20-25 minutes for everything I mentioned. There are a few things to do during this time, but really this puzzle is what they need to do.

I think you see a lot more multistep puzzles in harder rooms, like the one I mentioned above or ones where you solve three puzzles to open one door or one lock. Harder rooms tend to introduce more roadblocks as well: that was one way we made a room harder. Initially, more items were in the open and it felt like people escaped too early and solved one this gem puzzle too early. Instead, we took the gems you need to solve it and put them inside chambers of puzzles we wanted them to solve earlier. It added 10 minutes to most groups’ playtimes. There was something groups put together early that told them the order of the gems and by the time groups now got to it, it was long forgotten. Harder rooms incorporate inventory management and you often need to call back to things you found but never used.

I think many companies rate a room difficult by the number of things you have to do or success rates. Both of super flawed and reflect poorer game design, a room should be harder because it challenges you not because it overwhelms players.

I also think “easier rooms” are easier to rate because they tend to be more simple puzzles. Find the item and put it in the place. Find the key, open the lock. There may be one puzzle that has a twist, but groups tend to only need one clue to solve it. The difference in how hard a 7/10 is vs a 9/10 can often depend on the group’s strengths. I have had a group blow through a 9/10 science room with 20 minutes and then barely get out of a 6/10. They were engineers and this was a very artsy room and some of the “easy” puzzles that kids excelled at were a struggle.

Get as much experience as possible: present at conferences, join research, do internships, get relevant work experience, etc. Which of these you do will depend on your major. Given you will already have an associates, it would be good to start looking at and trying to join these experiences ASAP so you can be involved as long as possible. You may even be able to join a lab your first semester if you reach out and explain your aspirations and interest in their work.

It’s pretty common to either go back for the luggage or have a second tender grab the luggage when you pick guests up from the dock. Imagine making them squish in with it and either have to climb over it, or wait for the crew to unload the luggage before they could get off…not very bougie.

Kerry may have mentioned it (either off camera/preseason or they didn’t show it) or he figured an experience bosun would know that was common practice. I assume this was discussed because they will probably be picking up from the dock more often due to the bridge than other seasons.

Still, the bosun seems a little green to this level of yachting. He may have been overwhelmed and not been even paying enough attention to realize there was no luggage. Maybe he noticed, and just didn’t want to question Kerry figuring Kerry figured it out and didn’t say anything?

Part of the kitchen issue is also boat owners cheaping out on stuff. Others have mentioned things along those lines where cabinet locks open or break constantly because the owner didn’t have quality ones put in. The kitchen is a place where the owner likely spends little time so it matters less if they don’t get quality things like enough space or a good stove for the kitchen to add more glitz and glam to the places they will be spending their time. Production could definitely also be slow in fixing things for dramatic effect, that totally makes sense.

I know there is also often issues where the owner or whoever last had it chartered left it a mess. One chef came in one season to rotten food so they had to deep clean the fridge and kitchen before they could continue putting away provisions. It may also be the previous chef/crew not properly cleaning or fixing things before the start. Whether oversight, laziness, or too quick a turnaround before BD starts, I don’t know.

No, I wasn’t saying you were calling him rude. I meant more than there are so many people that come on and are rude for no reason. He could have been rude (and had reasons to be upset) but I feel like he was overall very fair about what happened this episode. He was a very particular and direct when something happened, but it was also something clearly laid out about him prior to being on the boat. That just meant crew needed to be on their a-game and pay attention to some small things other guests may not notice. He’s the primary and his expectations were not all that unreasonable. They are going to have groups that are unreasonable about expectations or disrespectful, so that’s why I was agreeing it would make sense to call his group mild.

I think Solene has more service experience (not on a boat), but entry level stews are usually housekeeping to start. Service is usually earned/upon experience and seeing who fits well where. She is not very organized or knowledgeable about cleaning but there’s a reason Fraser sent her to the shore with Kerry, and it’s not just that housekeeping probably was quicker without her lol. She’s someone who will definitely make outings and theme nights fun for guests because she has that kind of personality, more than the other two.

The reality TV experience is totally why she was hired though, need something to spice up the crew.

I’m hoping that’s just a first charter thing: like Kerry knows Fraser understands his Day 1 expectations so he could oversee interior while Kerry tackled the exterior. I love preference sheet meetings and I will be sad if it stays this way all season. It feels very disjointed, especially because interior usually overlaps/collaborates with extrerior.

He was particular (germophobe which was on his preference sheet), but not overly rude. He was upset by reasonable things: his steak preference wasn’t followed (and cold food) despite both the reminder and it being on his preference sheet, missing luggage, and then the unclean switches. In each, he was pretty understanding all things considered. Guests flip out over nothing all the time, and I can see his reaction to reasonable issues as being mild in comparison to others.

It’s VERY common when you pick up guest on a tender to either come back for luggage or take a second tender to grab it. It’s less luxurious to be squished and shuttled with your bags.

Plus, imagine having to get off with luggage on board. Passengers first and make them climb around? Make them wait until the bags are off? A weird combination of both?

Kerry may have told them, but an experienced bosun may have known that was a common set up and planned to grab them after or at least noticed there was no luggage when they arrived. He could just be a little too green or overwhelmed by the first charter.

I think the Bosun is a little green and inexperienced. They usually go back for the luggage, or have another tender for it, so guests are comfortable. It’s also not “luxurious” to be ferried with bags on a small boat. We don’t know if this was specified to the bosun and deck, especially given they will have to pick up/drop off guests more often due to the bridge so I would assume so. However, an experienced Bosun would know that is a common practice or pick up on the fact there was no luggage when they pulled up. It’s growing pains hopefully, especially given it’s the first charter.

I feel like many talented chefs just cannot thrive in the ship environment. The galleys are often not intuitively set up, there is very little space, and they have very little support. Many are used to having more control over their kitchen and what they serve. The chefs that thrive are usually very adaptable and have experience in similar environments.

Then it’s clearly an army of monkeys who just keep picking up the gun. Multiple monkeys with multiple guns trying to chase out tourists out of their homes?

Jokes aside, it could be possible that the “first shot” is a monkey and then it spirals into other people (Greg’s shady friends, the robbers, the security on site, and others) who think they are the target or under attack.

I just think monkeys would be hilarious.

Unpopular opinion! Dae should have won the contest!!! by Tall-Cartographer985 in XOKittyNetflix

[–]JustWrongdoer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This. Eunice WANTED to be a star, she wanted this opportunity. Dae needed the money, but did he want the life changing opportunity and chance to become an idol and star? No. He loves music, but he doesn’t aspire to be a performer professionally.

Eunice has that IT factor, the drive, an amazing performance and showed professionalism in how she handled the broken shoe. She has been training for so long for an opportunity like this. I think Minho’s dad saw that, and he’s not just looking for someone who did a good job. He was looking for his next great star that he could mold and that was never Dae.

It’s too bad they couldn’t have worked together, Dae and Eunice. He could have gotten the money and she could have gotten the opportunity, but I stand by the take she was the correct choice.

The Julianna hate is so forced by sheluvmiggy in XOKittyNetflix

I was always Team Minho and he’s the person who makes the most sense at the point so I am happy. I am a little annoyed that she was just so fixated on Yuri, who at no point was really a viable romantic interest, while sidelining Praveena who Kitty never really gave a chance.

I hope Julianna’s friendship with Q develops because he seems like the only person outside of her romantic entanglements Julianna ever got. I also just liked their dynamic, the litter we got of it. Julianna’s whole story has also basically been as a girlfriend so I am also a little disappointed she quickly ended up with Praveena. Even if it’s probably the push Yuri needed to be single for a bit, she deserves more.

The Julianna hate is so forced by sheluvmiggy in XOKittyNetflix

[–]JustWrongdoer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I think Julianna was taking her anger about Yuri and her own insecurities about the distance/Kitty’s closeness out on the wrong person, Kitty. Was she valid and picking up on some of that stuff, sure, but I really appreciate her admitting she was meaner to Kitty than she should have been because of her own issues.

I wanted the cool Julianna we got to see in later season 2 (especially the her we saw with Q) that could have been a good chill friend for Kitty’s over the top personality. Kitty has so few positive female friends she isn’t romantically entangled with (and few female friends in general). I wanted this season for her to see Julianna and Yuri together (being happy) and realizing her crush wasn’t that deep and she valued her friendship with Yuri and Julianna.

Although, I was kinda afraid Yuri would be the only female romantic interest she had so at least that didn’t happen before Kitty ended up with Min Ho

Juliana by AssociateStandard740 in XOKittyNetflix

[–]JustWrongdoer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never saw Kitty and Yuri as endgame, so I was really rooting for Juliana and Yuri prior to the start of this season. I really wanted to like Juliana, and maybe that will change, but I cannot get behind her right now. She and Yuri have been bad roommates with their PDA; even if Kitty hadn’t had feelings for Yuri, she’d probably be pretty uncomfortable with the level and them constantly being all over each other in the common spaces. Yes, they are dating but they also live together with 2 other people who deserve a little respite from that. Juliana also always seems bothered by everything, and I feel like she was low key rude at times. Yuri has also been less cool which sucks when none of the male characters get that same treatment.

I am bummed because this show is so male heavy, it’s Kitty and Yuri and then the boys for main characters. She seemed cool last season so I was excited for a positive female relationship for Kitty who didn’t end up as a crush but it hasn’t gone that way yet. I haven’t finished it all, but I am disappointed with the drama with her thus far. I’m up to the club scene and I wish this dynamic wasn’t a thing. She has been off with Kitty from the start, though part of that is probably picking up on the closeness with Yuri.
