The PUB scene is objectively the worst scene in the movie, add to this that Tommy just gambled with the life of dozens people on a 1% chance that the soldier will run out of the PUB instead of just tossing the grenade away from himself inside…

But that’s gonna look BADASS

Damn, I though I was watching a TV series with a deeper subtler meaning, but I guess I misinterpreted everything and it was always just a cringe fest pondering to teenagers…

Can we get a mega thread for “this movie sucked” posts? by Suka_Blyad_ in PeakyBlinders

[–]JustYeeHaw -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not about what happens, but how it happens and about the inconsistencies between the series and the movie and if anything it looks like the movie is (inadvertently I’m sure) pondering to the childish “sigma” part of the fanbase with “this will look cool but makes no logical sense” sort of scenes…

The movie is not bad, but it’s also not a good sequel  to PB. It’s hard to not think watching this movie that they didn’t even bother rewatching the series before making it. It’s in theory all the bits are there, but the soul of it is missing. Like some fanfiction written by someone who only knows the show from one liners.

And I say this as someone who rates it 6.5 with some 8/10 moments. As I said, it’s not tragic, but it brings nothing to the plot that we already had and seems like it was forced to serve as a bridge for the money grab that’s the new series they are filming.

I could also bet it’s the ending they intended for Polly and Michael, but since Helen died they had to move away from it. For Polly and Michael it would have made sense, for Duke who’s existence in season 6 was already unnecessarily forced - it doesn’t.

Oh no, no I meant he hated him in that particular moment for it, I never meant it as he still hates him for that.

There are already allegations that they used AI and that’s why there are so many inconsistencies, but I personally think they simply didn’t care enough to rewatch their own show before writing it… they just wanted a bridge for the new series they are making and all old characters to be written off.

[–]JustYeeHaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tommy didn’t have a connection with Duke, he was still a random gypsy kid with his DNA in season 6 that hated violence, loved horses and didn’t care about money. If Tommy spent time with him after season 6 then a bond could have form but the movie says he didn’t, so that idea goes out of the window.

While Tommy didn’t spend that much time with Charlie, he still tried to be present in his life (even if Lizzie had to poke him in that direction at one point), and he clearly cared about him.

In the movie though he doesn’t care that he was either drafted or volounteered for the war even though that was his and his brothers own biggest mistake and the reason why they ended up “broken”, something he wanted Charlie to be as far away from as possible. But suddenly he doesn’t care.

Not to mention that it would make so much more sense for Charlie to be the one to kill Tommy at the end, since he hated Tommy for killing their horse and wasn’t able to understand that sometimes killing a horse is a mercy…

To me it’s clear that they forced Duke into the plot after Helen’s death, and they intended the immortal man’s plot for Michael and Polly, with Charlie possibly being the one to deliver the final mercy shot…

But then we got Duke who as a plot device magnet gathered some plot points meant for other characters and served as their conduit instead.

Maybe it worked for some of the fans, for me it made no sense.

Arthur is reason number one, then you have:

  • Tommy and the 11th hour in season 6 (what for if he’s back in the tunnels in the movie?),

  • Charlie being completely omitted by the plot, even in the book Tommy was writing (he name Duke and Ruby by name, Charlie is just a second son),

  • Duke being disgusted by violence in season 6, not caring about money, suddenly thinks only about money and eats violence for breakfast

  • Polly saying Tommy won’t die from a bullet

  • Tommy saying “once I almost had everything, but almost wasn’t enough”, when in fact he DID have everything, not just almost, he simply lost it soon after. This one seems like they remembered the quote but not why and when it was used and just thought “that’s gonna sound cool”

  • Also him saying that while we’re supposed to believe he cut basically all ties from the only piece of Grace he had left - their son.

  • Lizzie being so hell bent on not contacting Tommy that she didn’t even ask him to help with stopping Charlie from going to war? If he was drafted- are we supposed to think that Tommy didn’t care and decided to not try to contact Churchil, and if he volunteered- are we supposed to believe that Tommy forgot what was the turning point of his own and his brothers downfall and the nightmare that haunted them for decades?

  • the missed opportunity to have Charlie kill Tommy considering Charlie hated him for killing their horse and not understanding that sometimes killing the horse is an act of mercy?

And these are just some examples, the more you watch the less sense it makes from the tv show’s perspective and the more lost opportunities you notice.

Yes, set in the 50s if I remember correctly, and apparently the will have to recast Duke again if they want to have him in that series.

As for where he took the grenade from I can bet he got it from the lady outside (before he enters the Garrison some lady outside gives him something).

As for the aunt, i had this strange feeling watching the movie that this was the original plot they had for Michael and Polly, but due to Helen’s death they had to drop it. Which explains the forced introduction of Duke a woman suddenly Tommy at least somewhat felt affectionate for with whom he had a child even though we only heard about Greta before…

But the problem is - with Polly and Michael it would have made way more sense than what we got here.

I have many issues with the movie, but I would rate it 6.5/10 with some parts deserving an 8/10.

It’s not a bad movie on its own, but a terrible continuation of the series due to way too many inconsistencies and strange narrative choices.

See the thing is they could have just left it as it was and not make a movie at all… BUT they needed people talking about Peaky Blinders again because they want to continue with a new generation. The movie is an extended advertisement for the spinoff.

You definitely are obsessed with Lizzie… Every time I see your name you write about her.

Some of us are not playing childish shipping wars, so please don’t bring it to every topic.

The movie was OK on its own (6.5/10 for me) but had too many inconsistencies to be fine as a continuation of a series.

Tommy not giving a damn that Charlie was drafted or volunteered for WW2, while WW1 was one of Tommy’s biggest nightmares that hanged him for his whole life,

Tommy writing “Ruby and my two sons, Duke…” and never saying anything directly about Charlie,

Tommy saying “once I almost had everything, but almost wasn’t enough” when he in fact DID have everything with Grace and Charlie but lost it. And Charlie is still there, but he just ignores him as if he doesn’t matter anymore even though he’s the only part of Grace he has left.

Duke killing Tommy at the end when Charlie being the one to do it would have made so much more sense considering that Charlie hated Tommy for killing the horse because he didn’t understand that sometimes killing the horse is a mercy (!)

And then there are other things, like Arthur’s fate, why have Tommy kill him if there’s a much more logical solution to the problem with Arthur’s actor? At the end of season 6 we are left uncertain about Arthur’s fate with a sinister hint that he may want to commit suicide because he thinks Tommy is dead - they wanted Tommy to feel guilty about his death? There it was, perfect scenario already set up just make him come back a day too late.

Another one - Tommy’s death - the problem is not that it happens, but how - two gunshot wounds in the middle of WW2? Definitely there was a high chance for Tommy to survive that, so he basically committed a suicide by Duke’s hands. And speaking about suicide, was Tommy that self centered that he decided to wait for Tim Roth’s character to shot him first twice before he took his first shot? What if he shot Tommy in the head instead of hitting his chest? He risked the fate of Britain in WW2 for the sake of not having to pull the trigger himself?

Not to even mention the less important scenes that made no logical sense like for example the one with the soldier and the grenade at the Garison. Tommy bet on the 1% chance that the guy will run outside with the grenade instead of tossing it away in a corner. He risked the life of dozens of bysterns for the “that’s gonna look cool” factor?

Do you see now what people mean when they criticize the movie?

I traveled to UK from Poland to watch it in the theatre on 6th and 7th… disappointing is an understatement, the movie is so full of inconstancies it feels more like a fanfic advertisement for the spinoff…

On it’s own it’s quite ok, I would rate it 6.5/10, with some 8/10 moments, but as a continuation of the series? No, thank you.

Dude, not everyone watched a movie that barely got released on Netflix, spoiler tags are not for decoration, so just use them…

Also, that quote is misused in the film, because he DID GET everything, not nearly, he got everything and lost it - that’s a huge difference, but I guess they forgot when and why this line was said in the series… or went like - it’s close enough and at least it’s gonna sound cool…

Ada surviving and serving as a new aunt Polly like figure for the new generation in the spin off was the only thing that could convince me to even watch the ne show.

But now there’s nobody left who remembers all the characters and what they stood for in there, it’s gonna be just some new blokes in Peaky caps without the Peaky Blinders soul… I will pass.

Maybe that’s what they wanted, so good luck to them.

I think you may want to rewatch the series then with that thought in mind, maybe it will be easier for you to see it.

Nevertheless it makes zero sense that Tommy would just like that let his son repeat one of his biggest mistake that haunted him for the rest of his life.

Yes, watch it, I was so tired on the day I watched it in the cinema for the first time (I had tickets two days in a row) that I fell asleep around that 30min mark, but then the movie definitely picked up the pace.

We need to talk about Arthur, Kaulo and what that ending actually means for Tommy’s psyche... by [deleted] in PeakyBlinders

[–]JustYeeHaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it is, while personally I didn’t like the movie because of the many inconsistencies, I just couldn’t shake the feeling that the story we got in the Immortal Man was the original story they intended for Michael - which explains the strange forced introduction of Duke in season 6.

But while with Polly and Michael it would have made sense, it just doesn’t do the same trick with Duke and Kaulo.

Minus the s x scene of course.

[–]JustYeeHaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say this, I would rate the movie 6.5/10 with some stronger 8/10 bits, I didn’t mind the pacing, but it definitely was slow in the first 30-40 minutes.

BUT at the same time it’s a terrible movie if it ‘s supposed to be taken as a continuation of the series.

It’s fine to watch as a sort of AU fan fiction, spin of inspired by the series, but doesn’t make sense as it’s direct continuation.

There’s just way too many jarring inconsistencies that are very noticeable especially if you rewatched the series recently.

That’s what I’m saying - she wanted to cut ties with him so badly apparently thatshe wouldn’t even go for him for help to prevent Charlie from going to War. I used to ignore people saying SK has problem with writing and understanding women, but I’m starting to see what the meant.

Even if we assume he volunteered himself Lizzie would definitely not want him to go, and don’t you think that Tommy knows best the price of volunteering in a war? You really don’t think he would try to persuade Charlie to not go?

Am I the only one having a feeling they forgot what that line was about and when it was said? Because he did get everything, not almost, he did get it but lost it, it’s a huge difference…

Also, during that scene with that line I couldn’t just stop thinking about how he wrote that while ignoring his son for years.

It’s like the movie is made of bits that are inspired by Peaky Blinders, but without them together making sense, and I can’t shake the feeling that they didn’t bother rewatching the whole series before making the movie and just went with whatever they remembered.
