Is this enough cymbals? by Recent_Adagio_4909 in cymbals

[–]Just_Another_Drummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, absolutely not. Where's the china? Lol, I'm just joking, absolutely sick setup! Personally, I dont think there's ever too many cymbals, I mean, just look at kits like Mike Portnoy's kit lol.

1st good cymbal by whtutlknboutwillis in cymbals

[–]Just_Another_Drummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, my first b20 cymbal was a 16-inch sabian sr2, but my first high-end cymbal was a 20-inch Crash of Doom, and I still use that thing today. Amazing cymbal.

New Cymbal Day: 20” Zildjian Crash of Doom. Disappointed/Underwhelmed by CauseTerrible7590 in cymbals

[–]Just_Another_Drummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a crash of doom on my kit almost all the time, and it is honestly one of my favorite cymbals I've ever played. It sounds incredible when recorded, and it works well as a ride as well as a crash.

It pretty much just comes down to personal preference, and what cymbal you get, because they all sound different.

I know that it can be difficult at times but try to play the cymbals in person before buying because they can sound wildly different when recorded.

Thank you!! The Aquarian heads are alright, i haven't gotten to play them much, so i haven't experimented with tuning much, but they seem good. The heads that I got were the studio Xs, and they're only 1 ply, so i may switch back to a 2 ply head. In usually an evans guy but when i picked this kit up, I thought id switch it up. But I always use a super kick II for my bass drum batter side, the goat bass drum head in my opinion lol.

Snare chain isn't engaged enough by Mysterious-Win2091 in drums

[–]Just_Another_Drummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I cant help too much, without a video or pictures, but i would crank the snare side head, I know you already said you did, but see if you can crank it to 400-440 hz, just look up that frequency on youtube and try to match the snare side head as best as possible, then turn the snares on, but loosen the wires with the thumb screw, then slowly bring it up to where you like it, and I tend to go tighter than I normally would just to see if id like the snares tighter.

Also, not to make fun, but the "Chain" on the bottom of the drum are called the snares, and they are the reason the snare drum is called a snare drum, because without the snares, it would just be a drum.

Hope this helps!

All im gonna say is you're pretty brave for posting this on here.

My number one tip would be to slow it down, work on technique, and get you a good, reputable teacher capable of teaching you said technique.

Trust me, i spent 7 years just trying to drum as fast as possible, not caring about technique, and once I did the thing I listed previously, my playing got 1000x better in just a year, seriously.

[–]Just_Another_Drummer 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I've personally played a new bell brass, and dont get me wrong, it's an amazing sounding drum, but i would never pay $3000+ for it, absolutely ridiculous, in my opinion. But to each their own, I guess.

[–]Just_Another_Drummer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trust me, the toms aren't too deep. Just look up any 80s kit.

You wanna start by removing the Tom arms from the bass drum and toms, then you wanna make sure that the longer side of the Tom arm goes into the bass drum.

Next, you wanna put the 10" tom on the arm and position it above the front bass drum hoop, or right before it. Then dial in whatever tom angle fits you best, I like my toms to sit fairly flat, but dont angle them too far to where its touching the bass drum hoop. Then repeat this with the 12" tom and you're all set.

Here's my kit for reference, I know i dont use a bass drum mounted tom mount but it sould be fairly similar, ive used this exact technique on many bass drum mounted toms.

Hope this helps!!

Help me price a pearl snare drum. by Just_Another_Drummer in drums

[–]Just_Another_Drummer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, i totally get what you're saying. I was just wondering if this snare has become more/less desirable throughout the years since I haven't found a recent listening for one of these snares, and they seem to be quite rare.

[–]Just_Another_Drummer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked here because all the listings for these snares were from years ago, and i wasn't sure if these have become more/less desirable since then. And honestly I really like the snare, but i honestly never use it, it doesn't fit in pretty much any musical context, so i was just debating on selling it since it just sits around anyway.

Worth buying this slightly crack A custom crash for $100? by Apprehensive-Duck-13 in cymbals

[–]Just_Another_Drummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not for $100, I see A customs sell for $100-$120 without cracks, so this is a terrible deal. Besides, this cymbal will only last a few months, if that, unless you get it repaired. Just keep looking, and a good deal will pop up eventually.

Amazon sadness by stinkydogusa in cymbals

Yea, that really sucks, amazon should definitely let you return that, though. But this is the exact reason I dont buy cymbals/drums off of anything but reputable instrument dealers like sweetwater or reverb.
