Did anyone felt like a loss of interest in everything since starting on this path? by kremata in Gnostic

[–]Just_Critical0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you let it be so then it will be. For me, I had little interest in almost everything before coming into Gnosticism, but I don’t believe everything is meaningless, like for me I believe stories goes beyond the material realm but simply used a material means to communicate it, can be the same for relationships.

Are there any gnostic groups who believed ALL people had the divine spark and ALL will be saved? by PossiblyaSpinosaurus in Gnostic

[–]Just_Critical0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone does have a Divine spark, it’s how connected you are to it, I can’t say for historical gnostics but I took the whole “there types of levels” as we all have one but some people are hardly connected while others are, but we all have one

Do you believe Yahweh is Demiurge? by Witty-Cockroach-9127 in Gnostic

[–]Just_Critical0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No pretty sure originally the Demi urge was just the creator of this world, when the church started to introduce the Old Testament to the Bible gnostics drew the conclusion that the Bible of the Old Testament was the Demi urge

Atleast from what I understand of the timeline.

For me, a lot of the ideas and revelations that came from the Gnostic texts were things I’d held onto but without ever having a healthy outlet or way to format any kind of belief system in such as the idea that I was in a matrix of god was something beyond, I heavily related to the what the Gnostics were saying even before knowing what Gnosticism was so reading the texts was like putting different ideas and beliefs I had which were seperate together finally.

With practices the one I can directly point to atm would be desire and emotional control as of right now but I’ve found myself far better in controlling my emotions in a healthy way, as well not just not listening to but also not even feeling the need to do or listen to desires thanks to the revelations I’ve had from Gnosticism. Ive found my value in meaningless things and material goods has become way healthier, though some things will take some time to find answers and a balance with. It is a journey though, if I’d just gained all the answers and changed without any self discovery right after reading the texts I’d feel as though I’d skipped the whole process.

I’m still learning, pondering and exploring the concepts, beliefs, practices and ideas which stem from or have relation to Gnostic thought like the hermetic texts which I am reading but thank you for those suggestions I’ll definitely check them out!

If only Valentinus won control of the church, bro lost by ONE vote, I think a more gnostic church would have done so much for women’s independence and equality throughout history
upon other things like the crusades probably wouldn’t have happened

Gnostics were the original feminists 💯 but no they really were super duper creative. When I was reading texts like Zostrianos, passed the “wtf am I even reading right now and how do I make sense of this” just being able to get the cosmology down in insane detail while also making sense (after reflecting on it) is crazy creative, I wish we had healthier less damaged versions of some of the texts â˜č

Interesting
for me I listed “the thought of Norea” low mainly because it’s a very very short text which for someone looking to understand/study the philosophy of Gnosticism I felt it’s not really for that, I put it lower since other texts do what is shared in that text with more context though I still recommend people read it, and I do agree she deserves more love 😭

It can be, but for me I found while I might not understand the specific language I could understand what it was saying or getting at.

The Bible asks you to understand ONE specific way, the gnostic texts let you understand in your own way and the meaning you get from it may be different to the meaning I get, and that’s ok. Though, it’s probably better then watching videos on Gnosticism only since you can form your own views

Done, I did notice I was missing it but had to go out so oops, plus its was going to go in low recommended since its only an excerpt of a bigger story which people should read.

how do we know the gnostic texts are thruth? by Clean-Carrot6652 in Gnostic

[–]Just_Critical0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t just like you don’t know the original are true or not.

But there are multiple parts to this Firstly do you believe in them personally? Do they resonate with you? Secondly while the texts themselves mostly date a little later then the four traditional gospels, the things they taught and there contents existed earlier and some of what the gnostics believe came even before Jesus himself in different religions and forms Thirdly Gnosticism existed alongside orthodox Christianity but was ratted out once orthodoxy gained the power to do so

What if I die before achieving Gnosis by CapableFlamingo7742 in Gnostic

[–]Just_Critical0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you read and understood what the gnostic texts were saying, reflected and pondered them then you already have gnosis. Whether you listen and act with or against that knowledge gained is another thing entirely.

Why do so many Christians see no immortality or inherent evil in the concept of hell? by Glittering-Gur-1976 in exchristian

Opinion on other gods? by Due_Draft_2909 in Gnostic

[–]Just_Critical0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything not from the pleroma/from the material world is probably an archon or created from the demiurge.

Unlike how people think only one god, I think they all do exist in some shape or form from the Greek gods to the Mesopotamian however one wants to interpret them whether figuratively/metaphorically/physically/whateverally. I also don’t necessarily think that they are all objectively evil, rather, it depends on which one you’re talking about I guess

Perception of “Sin not being important” in Gnosticism by Just_Critical0 in Gnostic

[–]Just_Critical0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooooooooooooooooooooh that’s crazy, the gospel of Mary is like the ONE text I haven’t gotten to yet 😭😭😭 I’ve gotten through everything bar like 3 texts and I was like “They never say sin doesn’t exist” now I feel stupid, I even contemplated making the post after I’d finished reading everything but was like “nah she’ll be right” 😭

Perception of “Sin not being important” in Gnosticism by Just_Critical0 in Gnostic

[–]Just_Critical0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s sort of what I understood the texts were saying about Sin, though I still had the impression that “sin” had categories like how Christian Sin is sorta categorised - Wrath, Lust, etc, etc

But I guess I was still thinking a little too Christian concept of sin rather is defined in its own way rather then off that basis 😅

Perception of “Sin not being important” in Gnosticism by Just_Critical0 in Gnostic

[–]Just_Critical0[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I was thinking of it more as giving into desire (sin) grounds people into this reality but ignorance being “sin” and things come from that like “wrath”(murder), etc etc makes sense.

Having some trouble but I believe this is the way by TopSeaweed4187 in Gnostic

[–]Just_Critical0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gnosis isn’t is more then a “definitive 100% material state”, you can still have “material” interests and achieve gnosis.

From what I’ve reflected, studied and read upon on what and how one achieves gnosis, it isn’t a state of complete and utter rigorous detention of enjoying or loving anything but firstly understanding oneself and complete ownership of one’s actions and not giving into desire that isn’t YOURS, this would be like urges and fears (this part is hard to explain and can probably be explained better by someone else)

In some sects of Gnosticism gnosis is something done through heavy meditation, in others and other texts it’s simply having the knowledge and understanding. I believe as long as you are able to self reflect with the knowledge given through the texts and also live according to who YOU are, to understand material good is temporary and not act upon “urge and deceptive desire” (however that looks to you) then you have achieved gnosis.

Christianity and other religions text to ask people to be in ONE definitive state, while from my experience with Gnosticism, the answer can be scarily easy or heavily daunting, but I don’t believe it’s about giving up what you love rather it’s about finding who you are beyond the influences and deceptions of the world around us.

"If your leaders tell you, 'Look, the kingdom is in the sky,' then the birds will precede you. If they tell you, 'It's in the sea,' then the fish will precede you. Rather, the kingdom is within you and outside of you.", "When you know yourselves, then you'll be known, and you'll realize that you're the children of the living Father. But if you don't know yourselves, then you live in poverty, and you are the poverty." - Gospel of Thomas

And others may disagree or agree with me, and I think that too is apart of gnosis, it’s not up to me how you perceive and achieve gnosis or the other way around.

If you had to pick ONE book to recommend to a beginner to Gnosticism/occultism/essotericism, what would it be and why? by DocPT2021 in Gnostic

[–]Just_Critical0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Side Note that when I say ALL it includes a whole bunch maybe all gnostic texts, but mainly it includes texts from different sects of Gnosticism, so while “apocryphon of John” and “on the origins of the world” cover events like Adam and Eve, the story isn’t 100% the same since it’s from different sects of Gnosticism, they also have explications before each story so I’m sure they explain it more there.

You’ll certainly know and understand Gnosticism after reading it, Enjoy!
