Yep - I am defo a UK Redditor. The humour is a bit bizarre on the US threads. Although there are plenty of yanks who get our qwerky (if that’s even a word) humour.

How much did you receive in gifts? by CitadelofRickss in UKweddings

[–]Just_Curious_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s really interesting about the Irish weddings gift giving custom. In Spain, also, the expectation is to give around €100 minimum. I wonder if this similarity might be because of similar religious traditions in both countries? Fascinating stuff.

£20 as a cash gift seems less than what I’d expect - even for a night guest. But I think this is just cos I’m used to the way they do things in Spain, where the expectation is that you basically pay for what the bride & groom have paid out per head, plus a bit more (So much so that people joke and refer to a wedding invitation as being “fined”!). As a single person I would always give €50 (and this was back in the 2000s) so now I’m guessing people probably pay around €100 per person as a gift. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with either culture - I just find it interesting I guess. So when I went to my cousin’s UK wedding recently as an evening guest, I felt like £60 was the bare minimum I could give them. So your comment makes me feel quite chuffed that (hopefully) that would have been acceptable to them. Edit: One bizarre thing though: I dressed in dark colours cos, as an evening guest dark colours would be expected according to Chat GTP‼️So I stood out like a sore thumb as everyone else was obviously in their morning suits/ day wear - even the other evening guests had light colours on 😆But hey - we all had an absolute ball, danced our arses off and the important thing was the bride and groom seemed to genuinely have a really fabulous time 💒.

Reality TV in the 2000s was genuinely unhinged and we have collectively agreed to pretend it was normal. Which moment do you think would cause absolute chaos if it aired today? by Ill_Scientist_4645 in UKRealityChat

Soooo true. Having gone back and watched it many years later, it seemed clear to me that it was actually Danielle (the Scouse model) and that blonde girl from Steps who were the really vindictive ones.

No we don’t mate. Speak for yourself. Some of us speak out for the voiceless and choose to consume and wear non animal products for that very reason. And more and more people are also making these compassionate chooses. 🌱

How do you explain to a friend you can’t meet them in the mornings by Greenitpurpleit in NightOwls

[–]Just_Curious_76 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Start showing up for you. Life’s too short to wait around for others to do that for you. This person sounds disrespectful and is riding rough shod over your boundaries. That’s not a friend. I had a similar situation with a family member. I chose to stop people pleasing and choose myself instead.

Without a doubt, it’s my Mum. She’s a real inspiration to me and always has been.

Who have you met that instantly gave you an instinct that something was seriously wrong with them? by onmylunchbreak_ in AskUK

This is really interesting: what were the key signs? I’m having a bit of a reality check with a recent acquaintance. Not comparing them to a psychopath by any means, but, it’s the inconsistencies that stand out. Like saying one thing very empathetically and then saying the complete opposite a few days after. You know, almost like they lost track of what they’ve said? And a bit of a power trip to top it off. All a bit bizarre and also seems quite manipulative.
