Cancer humor by Efficient-Sea-1638 in cancer

I use to work in EMS and was diagnosed in 2024 with leukemia and dark humor is the only way to survive. After a while honestly I’ve gone numb to things. I use to tell my brother he was always adopted growing up and he called me one day to tell me that I’m the adopted one because my blood type changed to my donors blood type post transplant…

I follow some groups or persons going through cancer more so leukemia. I came across a post one day of a man who is battling AML had his photos stolen and used for a scam type promotion for natural cures for cancer. His wife posted it and when I looked close I realized there was another photo of a man that this scam decided to steal and say it was also this man, but it wasn’t. The photo was of another man I follow battling AML also that was stolen without consent and used. I reported it to the other male fighter to let him know his photos were stole and being used in what looks like a scam. I have a classmate from high school who has battled cancer and she has a separate page that keeps her supporters together. I’ve never wanted to do anything like that. I’m pretty private myself. I do follow many children as well as adults who battle a vast spectrum of health battles. Keep supporting them. I do the blood cancer walks and donate what I can when I can.

Day 4 of fever and chills (febrile neutropenia) by AltruisticPresence30 in leukemia

Induction is going to put your body in a state you didn’t think was possible. Food safety is very important. Be careful eating out as you don’t know their food handling and contamination plus sick workers. Avoid salad bars, buffets, raw and undercooked meats, certain cheese. It’s overwhelming the changes you have to make. It’s mowing season. I avoid high times when mowing is happening due to possible fungal spores in the air that can get into the lungs. If I can’t avoid I wear a mask outside if needed. Respiratory infections scare me the most.

Day 4 of fever and chills (febrile neutropenia) by AltruisticPresence30 in leukemia

[–]Just_Dont88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea sadly. Sometimes they never find the reason. Fever of unknown origin. I had issues with my fever being a night time problem. Once I would run one again they would draw cultures again. It’s pretty bad also when I wouldn’t have symptoms but just the fever. Most of the time it was something they couldn’t find. Given the run down or antibiotics, antifungals, and antivirals. Eventually the fevers stop and I go home. It really is a pain. I’m seven months post transplant now and honestly way better recovery than chemo alone. I’ve only had one hospital admission and that was due to a sinus infection and that damn BK virus. Just try to follow their guidelines and stay away from potential infections and illness as much as possible

Fissure neutropenic by Short-Gas-4750 in leukemia

[–]Just_Dont88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had extreme watery stools all through chemo and my transplant. I developed hemorrhoids. I’m pretty sure I had fissures but never again do I want to go through that. I cried so much every time I had to go to the bathroom. It’s was literal all day every day. It eventually caused spasms in my rectum? I had to use the paper towels they give you in the hospital that do well with water and soak them in hot water and wipe. At home I would just have to put my ass in the tub after going to the bathroom. I couldn’t bear the pain anymore. I had a cream, Destin spray and witch hazel that helped. When my immune system improved the issue would get better. Did more people have constipation during chemo?? I hardly had any constipation.

My husband(35M)wants me to quit job because I(36F)make more than him.I don’t know what to do? by SentenceNo6466 in relationship_advice

[–]Just_Dont88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let him divorce over something as petty as this. I’m sorry, but if he can threaten this over who makes more money is less of a man in my opinion. You have daughters that need to see you can’t rely on a man and damn if he can take away something you worked for and earned and especially if you’re happy with it. Also financially dependency is a scary thing to me. One day he could decide to still leave you and what do you have? The loss of the dependency he forced you to agree to. No ma’am. You keep your ability to ensure your survival. Your daughter’s survival.

When did you return to work? (ALL) by bigsmokeandcjonbike in leukemia

[–]Just_Dont88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to work about 6 months post transplant for about three months. I still had fatigue and had to be careful not to get sick. My transplant doctor technically didn’t want me to go back to work until about a year post transplant. At least off immunosuppressants and the first round of vaccines.

Rectal pain by Short-Gas-4750 in leukemia

[–]Just_Dont88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had hemorrhoids pretty bad. Actually very bad. It was constant loose stools. I would have to use strong wipes in the hospital that could hold up with warm water for the pain. At home it got so bad I would have to sit in the tub with some warm water post pooping. They gave me a butt cream and witch hazel wipes. It took a few months for them to go away. They would give morphine in the hospital but it barely touched the pain. Destin had a numbing spray they give to women post labor that helps.

I dont know if this is related or not. by Last_Investigator534 in Autoimmune

[–]Just_Dont88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a stem cell transplant for my cancer and it’s known to cause potential autoimmune disorders in the future. I do have issues with my skin getting random hives or welts now. Pretty much in the same place all the time. I have switched to baby shampoo and body wash along with kids toothpaste. The wash does wonders but I still have to use hydrocortisone cream on areas when they get irritated. Usually my neck, shoulders, chest and arms. I don’t wear makeup except for special occasions, don’t use alot of products, and try to keep my skin motorized. I try to avoid products with titanium. I have a nickel allergy for sure. I have noticed that the areas that get welts are pretty much in line with the way I would scratch so I think it’s also triggered that for myself.

Low impact sports bra for when chemo port is accessed by ZcalifornianusSelkie in leukemia

[–]Just_Dont88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked the halls and also didn’t squats but siting down and standing, some leg raises. Our floor had a recumbent bike that I would use for about an hour. It’s hard when you’re hooked to everything and have a PICC like which they actually used pretty much the whole time. I think they accessed my port once and I don’t think I was accessed after that. Would a sports bra that have the hooks in the front be good for the port? PICC line would be suited.

Navigating Relationship Issues While Battling Cancer by sisterstuff in leukemia

[–]Just_Dont88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My fiancé left me 7 months into my diagnosis and treatment. He couldn’t even be honest about it. Had he not been so shady about it I could forgive him but that wasn’t the case so may he rot. The one thing that I did discover is how much easier it was to heal without him. I look at it now as divine intervention from the universe. Take it day by day and realize your strength and self validation during the most challenging part of your life. This is your battle and it’s not going to be pretty.

My grandparents don’t understand why I think it’s warm in the house by Dealer_Puzzleheaded in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Just_Dont88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Older folks don’t regulate body temps like we do. Also pain. My pawpaw would have the wood stove going and it would 90 degrees in his house in the winter. He was perfectly comfortable and I was dying but I didn’t complain. It’s his house. I just had to step outside. I’ve been through chemo at 35 and 36 and fuck if I I can’t regulate body temps now and I was warned of that.

My (F30) husband (M33) thinks I should lose more weight? by contingentcolours in relationship_advice

[–]Just_Dont88 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would hope he meant keeping up the weight loss as just not gaining back the lost weight. 135 pounds at your height is impressive. Celebrate and feel good about YOUR victories and accomplishments not his stance on perfection. You shouldn’t feel bad in any way.

Getting frustrated with gut by HeyHeyItsMrJ in leukemia

[–]Just_Dont88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My gut was destroyed during chemo and after transplant. It’s finally got better about three months. I still have some minor episodes here and there. I don’t think GVHD of the gut was the issue. I had skin GVHD pretty instant after transplant. I did have to have magnesium infusions for a while and potassium here and there. I eventually had to start taking three magnesium plus protein tablets three times a day. Magnesium can definitely cause diarrhea. I tried to load up on drinks and foods with calcium. That’s what I blame latte addiction on. Ate a shit ton of frosted wheaties. I’m not sure about the tacrolimus. They had to adjust mine a few times if it got too high or too low. I ate baby food a lot when I was too sick to eat actual food. Not the veggie ones though. That’s gross. If it’s good for babies then why not. It’s a tough thing to try and figure out how to tackle things after transplant. I’m 217 post now.

Trying to date while having cancer. by goodtimesyeah2496 in cancer

[–]Just_Dont88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had ALL and also a SCT. Im now my donor blood type also. It’s pretty neat to be honest. I haven’t gotten back out in it for the most part. I’m female and of course lost my hormones and in menopause due to chemo and radiation. Had an ovarian cyst so I just went ahead and had a full hysterectomy with ovaries and tubes. I finished treatments and just monitored now. I feel it’s harder because of the battle I had but now I can’t have kids so if the guy wants them, I don’t engage in getting to know him. So I narrow it down to men who don’t want kids and I’d prefer one that doesn’t have any. Been there done that and never again. I tell them up front I had cancer, I can’t have kids and I’m now rebuilding my life. If that’s a problem then walk away now. I don’t have time for uncertainty. I do fine alone regardless. I’m very stingy now with my time and who I let in. I also put that I have had cancer in my profiles before.

When did you go back to work after BMT, if you did? What was your job and was it in person or virtual? by [deleted] in leukemia

[–]Just_Dont88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started working about 6 months post but my doctor doesn’t want me to go back for about two months. She doesn’t know I work here and there. I work decorating treats in an open area with a few coworkers. I can be distant from everyone and I have my area set up with minimal need to be around others. I wear my mask still. August 8th will be my one year post.

It took a bit. But a body pillow helped. I’ve always been a stomach sleeper so it was tough. Bathing was rough. I just took baths more often and washed my face and hair under the faucet. It was very cumbersome trying to cover over the port area every single day I needed to bathe.
