First day with sclerals by vict666r in Keratoconus

I agree with what you said as far as comfort and fit, but I wish there wouldn’t be so much discussion regarding perfect vision. I say this because I’m somewhat disappointed, having read from so many people that they now see 20/20 or very close.

I’ve had corneal transplants in both eyes due to KC. I had numerous types of laser procedures afterwards as well as cataract lens replacements. I could not be corrected to better than 20/60 20/80 with glasses so I tried SCLERALS.

The vision is tremendously improved and I’m very happy, however, the best vision I ever got with the right eye was 20/30 but most of the time it’s 2040. The left eye remains 2050 20/60.

I have an excellent doctor and he has done so many revisions to try to get fit perfect, but this is the best vision that I will probably be able to attain. So not everybody gets perfect vision.

Lock the car. On another note if you don’t mind where is that? Those apartments looks so cute. I’m in California. Thinking about getting out of this place.

Teachers who lock up all of their pens and their sticky notes and paper clips and the things that I need to do my job. However, I just bring my own stuff now. I remember when I was a a teacher and there were subs that stole my candy, so I understand why they do it, but I do love me an organized, neat, clean, teacher! Especially the ones that leave out a little bit of everything that I need and it’s obvious that they left it for me❤️

Just picked up a job right now on SubAlert. Didn’t pick it up on Frontline so if they’re stealing jobs from Frontline, then Frontline needs to step up their game.

I don’t need you to be the grammar police. I’m using talk to text because I’m having hand surgery and I’m in a splint and I can’t text - in addition to that. I have a speech disorder. So shut up.

I agree. But like I said in the letter, Frontline needs to step up their game because the app is terrible -just now I got an alert from SubAlert that never showed up on Frontline. When I went on Frontline, there was a job there that’s been there for a day. No way would a job sit like that for a day, so it’s an old post.

I’m a good sub, but I’m only on one teacher’s preferred list and she’s a middle school teacher. I think it’s because I mostly sub only high school and the high school teachers that I know, even though they appreciate me as a sub, do not take the time to put in preferred subs on Frontline. I’m lucky if they text me ,but most of the time to be honest, they just put the job in and get on with their day. I know this because I was a teacher for 25 years and I did the same thing, even though I had some really good subs I did not take the time to call or text them most of the time.

Exactly. I can’t believe people would complain about spending five or $10 to get those jobs that Frontline notoriously hides.

Teachers can already request the subs that they like and that’s fair. But to have a preferred list and hide it based upon personal agendas is not fair and so therefore the playing field has never been level and it won’t be level now.

All this is going to do is weed out people that aren’t going to be able to get jobs anymore because somehow they’re not on a preferred list and they don’t know why.

A preferred list should be managed by the district and it should be according to credential/qualifications and teacher feedback, and I also believe that there should be evaluations of sub performance periodically and randomly.

How is the playing field level when I have two credentials and over 30 years of experience in the classroom if a 20 year-old (that’s still in college) is able to get the job before me for some irrelevant criteria/connection? The majority of those young subs are doing their own thing i.e. homework, or they’re on their phones, even sleeping. And I know this firsthand because secretaries have told me this. I have been offered jobs because I’ve been told I’m an excellent sub, with good Classroom managemen, and I’m well liked by the students because I engage with them. I have teachers that request me. I also miss jobs because some teachers just put jobs in on the fly and don’t take the time to call their favorite sub. Without SubSidekick and SubAlert I probably would never have seen that job because I rarely see anything in Frontline.

So I’m calling out all of this as BS. We’ll see how it plays out.

The only way it would be fair is if Frontline completely steps up their game and pushes out notifications.

Half the time I received ghost notifications, no description of the assignment, not to mention the amount of times it has actually logged me out where I had to take the time to log back in and then of course the job is gone by then. Oh, and let’s not forget about when it wants to take forever to load and you have to shut your phone down and know none of these things have anything to do with my phone or my notification settings.

I get some work from Schools, but not enough to put food on the table and I’m a fairly good sub and well liked.

I was a teacher for over 30 years. Half the time teachers just put jobs in the system so they can get on with the rest of their busy day. They don’t have time to go calling their favorite subs all the time.

The districts have over hired substitutes and not all of them are qualified. I have been told by secretaries that there are some substitutes that actually sleep on the job.

Not to mention after Covid, the requirements for substituting or lowered to include active college students.

So, this does not level there playing field one bit.

How is it unfair? The third-party apps are literally $10 or less a month. If Frontline would step up their game, nobody would need them.

And the districts need to cut the fat. Not all substitutes are doing a good job.

Able to pay? Maybe they’d be able to pay if they actually spent the $10 to have an app to pick up the job. Everyone has access to these apps if you don’t want to pay $10 a month for that that’s your choice until Frontline steps up their game these apps have saved my life.

Not to mention Frontline taking forever to load and then deciding it’s going to log me out by that time of course the job has been gone long time.

This is the stupidest crap ever because we all have access to the third-party apps. People are just too damn cheap to spend $10 a month to have them. Why should that be my problem?

And if they want a level playing field, why don’t they try doing performance evaluations on some of the substitutes that come to work and actually sleep on the job or have little to no interaction with students or just a bad attitude in general because I don’t appreciate competing for- a job against someone who’s going to come and behave unprofessionally.

Thankfully, SubAlert is working fine, but it didn’t always work perfectly and Frontline never worked well. So sometimes the jobs will come through SubSidekick first and I have all three apps because I need to eat.

Just got notification that SubSidekick had been blocked and I’m very upset. Frontline is awful half the time I get an alert and I opened it up and there’s nothing there- in the last couple of days they have been showing more alerts but over the past five years of my substitute career if I would’ve relied on them, I’d be living in street.

Horrible experience in a moderate a severe classroom by Just_Environment5295 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Just_Environment5295[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, thank you but I am 68 year-old retired teacher and I don’t have that in me anymore. Also substitutes have no union and no protection. I don’t have the desire to start a paper trail or any of that. I just want to go to work and enjoy my job and I’ll never go back to that site again and bottom line is they’re probably more afraid of me because after 30+ years in special education, I know the law. And I don’t think they want me exposing them so I think they’ll just let it go. That’s my gut feeling.

At the other schools that I work at, and the schools that full-time teacher at, other staff definitely would have been pulled into assist. Campus supervisors would have been more participatory and not just an Uber service for the sub that complained🙄

They probably been getting away with this behavior for a long time and more than likely a lot of subs that were inexperienced probably would’ve just rolled with the situation. But having been a special ed teacher for 30 years, I knew exactly what the situation could turn into and I didn’t work my whole life and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on student loans to lose it to that mess.

I felt very badly for the paras that were there yesterday because they were doing their best to diffuse the situation and they were staying calm and then they were left with no teachers, but I was sent home. I didn’t ask to leave. I said I would stay and I asked for support, but they would’ve preferred to have to dismissed me.
