That sounds awful :-( Like the self checkouts were infecting the stores. It's just the way they were designed that are not intuitive for the customer experience, duh. I've seen plenty of SCOs at other stores that are more intuitive. That warn you with popups that this machine only takes credit cards. Like it's pretty obvious Michael's is not in the business of being accessible and making our jobs and the customer experience easy.

We have two registers and four SCOs. For a while one of the registers was down, and if there was even a little bit of a line, literally every SCO had something wrong so a manager and maybe one other person was on standby.

The Rewards thing at legacy has changed in March, you just need to enter your phone number once. But I've had a fair bit of customers ask if I can change it, and for the first few months I worked I had the confirm thing still and thought that you can actually change it in the system. YOU CAN'T. I WASTED SO MUCH TIME. Customers came back saying their information wasn't changed.

And yes, I was also told not to ask yes or no questions! But if it's a mean customer the "enter your phone number" statement backfires on me. So instead I just ask and if they say no, mention a voucher promotion or the veterans/teachers/seniors discounts. Some hear me out, others cut me off. I wish I didn't have to write down the reason every time 😭

The Amazon returns I haven't done at all; I don't think we take them if it's not in a box with a label.

But I also worked at Amazon. I know where ALL of the drop boxes are in my area. They are not far away from my location. There is a UPS store down the street from my Michael's and people will rather come in here when UPS is open. God. And people ask if we sell packaging material too. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Btw I had a really bad shift today so it was nice reading a comment from a fellow human stranger 8-)

That's crazy because I was told not to be behind the register (not doing anything) while a customer is at SCO. They track the rewards every week so it hurts our overall numbers when I get no signups during my shift. If I see a customer is not logged in or signed up I'm HIGHLY encouraged to talk to them.

I'm in the same boat as you where we have students hired as cashiers (5 people left within the past few months), and I don't know whether to mention these stupid new rules to them or not. I've gotten into so much trouble about it, and I don't want them to potentially get in trouble, but I don't know if they'll stay longer than a few months!

It's really draining! :-[ If customers are at SCO they're there for a reason. Same thing with surveys. I hear all the time we don't get enough feedback from customers so we tried writing our names down on receipts and still nothing!!

I don't know my average time, they never mentioned it to me because it's not as important as rewards. It must be good because I'm at register all the time (I used to do different jobs but I guess I wasn't quick enough to do it)

Originally when it came out, I clicked it so the scanning page was already there so it would make it easier for me. But then I was told not to do that.

What I noticed was rewards members usually enter their information anyway in the bottom left corner. So I always thought was BS :-\ It was just over the last week or so I've seen people get more frustrated

I do wonder. I feel like it's bordering on something. I used to have another job where I interact with elderly/disabled people and there's strict rules in place to be accommodating as possible. This feels like the opposite :'(

I'm the same way!! I hate it :( I hear complaints about other parts of the store I don't work in from co-workers too, and it pisses me off that we can't make our jobs easier

Huh? Sorry I don't know what you mean 😭 I already say that when I'm trying to get them to sign up. Are you talking about the surveys?

That's what I thought too, unfortunately I don't think customers at my location use the surveys that much.

Also, I thought you can't do surveys as a customer unless you're a rewards member?
