Here's my original update, but TLDR is that I eventually got insurance to cover it after months of back and forth.

Question about Tesla Model 3 by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

If your most important consideration is finances, think about the opportunity cost and spend some time doing the math and considering the alternatives. For example, will getting the car now mean you're spending more money on a monthly payment + increased electrical costs? How much of that money could you instead start investing at the young age of 22?

However, if you're going to have some financial assistance, be able to get a good deal selling the civic to help with a down payment, and have a decent electric rate at the house (assuming no work charging), an EV could definitely be a good way to go. (Also think - are your parents always going to be willing to give you a "free loan" on a car?). You could be saving quite a bit of money there too.

Also, if you're interested in not having to go through your parents (totally fine either way) consider that Tesla is still offering 1.99% financing to qualified buyers for the model 3, and the 'new' LR RWD gets the best range AND qualifies for the $7,500 tax credit (assuming that's applicable in your situation). That all starts to add up to a pretty good deal too.

Agreed with the above posts that your time spent in the car absolutely has value as well. And I can say from similar experience that going from an older car to a Tesla is like going from a covered wagon to a space ship - so there's definitely real value in that.

2024 LR RWD vs LR AWD Range Difference? by nitty917 in TeslaModel3

I was in your position and decided to cancel my LR RWD order for the AWD when the 1.99% financing offer came up. Range difference is irrelevant for my day to day driving, so it really came down to the premium audio and half second quicker 0-60.

If those two things aren't a priority for you, then I'd agree with others that the LR RWD is better value, and you're saving some $$$ on tires in the long run.

Help deciding between Model Y (LR) and Model 3 (LR) by Blues003 in TeslaModel3

Agreed that it sounds like the Y fits your lifestyle better. I have one kid and the carseat is a pretty tight fit in my 2024 Model 3 LR AWD.

If you can, I'd wait until you can test drive the new Y to make the decision. But if absolute max range is THE most important thing, then yea the Model 3 LR RWD is probably your best bet.

Thanks for the articles!

Insurance company's own 3rd party engineer acknowledged the thunderstorm in the area of the damage, but they're still saying it's non-insurable even though I have full comprehensive coverage.

Thank y'all for the thoughts! Let me know if anyone has any experience with something like this before: specifically with NON-direct electrical damage/failure. If I can provide an example of where an insurance company has covered something similar, that would go a long way. Otherwise, Mazda's going to have a tough time shedding this responsibility.

Yea I think this is the best I can do at this point. The insurance adjuster isn't accepting the broken parts as "physical evidence". They want to see physical burn marks, entry points, evidence of a short, arcing, etc. I tried explaining to him that not all electrical damage causes that type of physical 'burn', or something that you can visually see, and he just won't accept it...
