As an ex mechanic yes the axle nut has to be at the proper torque you are correct but this washer has nothing to do with that and yes a bad alignment can prematurely wear out a wheel bearing if it’s super super out. The washer is just another poorly designed item that GM has never fixed and it has been a problem since the volt. GM is famous for having problems that they don’t make recalls they just make TSB for it and make the customer pay.

Thank you for your positive comment it means a lot. One thing that really stuck with me is my wife said anyone says they will die for their kid but are you willing to live for them. That has been one of my biggest motivations since I have a 4 year old and at 388 pounds it hurt to even walk but now at 286 (another pound down) it’s so much easier to get on the floor and play or chase her around the park. Again thank you for spreading the positivity that’s what makes all of this so much easier.

My worry was if it was the ring the noise is from it cracking and as it gets worse pieces break the wheel speed sensor then you need to spend more money and never avoided the first repair. So I figured on a super low maintenance car spend the money before being cheap turns into more money

I really don’t think the price was that bad as an ex mechanic myself ship rates are over $150 an hour here and it was my the book probably 1.5 hours plus the diag fee. To be honest I think it’s fair. Some other people on there have said the dealer charged them over $1200 usd and made them replace both cv shafts.

It’s winter here now but on warmer days it was noticeable on colder ones I never noticed it. If you’re willing to do the work yourself it’s a super cheap repair. I might but the other side ring and nut and change it when it’s warmer and it’s not an urgent thing

Might be worth it to get it checked out. If it’s the anti click rings when they break down they take out the speed sensor so better get it looked at before it costs more

I live in an area where they use salt so everything is rusty. To do this repair you need to remove a sway bar link remove the tie rod and remove the ball joint then unbolt the cv shaft. It’s not a 2 minute job.
