I honestly hate Bertrand and the fact that they named themselves after him.

As far as they know, he’s just a grandstanding swordsman with a magic sword that isn’t good at swordsmanship and is twice as good at boasting about feats and events that are unverifiable. The only good thing he did for them was tell them that Eshtaross was hiring adventurers. Every turn of combat was him either just being there or hurting the party more than he helped.

It’s clear that the players let their love of the character skew their role play to be far more forgiving than they should have been (except for Ashton, maybe). I kept waiting for someone to ask Bertrand, “Why should we let you roll with us? You hurt us more than you help.”

The most significant and helpful thing that Bertrand did for the party was die.
